My stage race starts on Friday. That one week of preperation that I was looking forward too turned into only a few days. Lightning strikes have caused some 800+ wildfires and the air has been filled with smoke. I did one ride in the smoke and that was enough. Otherwise I have done hours on the stationary trainer.
There are actualy a lot of riders going. There are 14 for the 13-14 year olds, 17 for the 15-16 year olds and 7 for my category 17-18. Combined of all categories last year there were 13.
Friday is a 9 mile rolling TT with a 3 mile climb at the end.
Saturday is a double day with a 55 mile RR in the morning and a 3.8 mile TT in the afternoon.
Sunday features a 48 mile Road race in the morning then we head home, hopefully with good news. I think that if I finished higher than 7th I would be happy

whats the longest race you have ridden? Last saturday i rode a race calle Lofoten Insomina wich is a race in a distance of 260km. I wan my class and took fifth place overal(all classes rode together, 17-21 years - 44-60 years you know what i mean)... i were happy about my own performance since i become the best rider of my team. it took me eight hours and tweentyfour minutes.... i could send you an link of the map of the race if you all wants |

There aren't very many races that are long for any of the categories I ride in. This weekends first road race would have been the longest at 55 miles but the race was cancelled. Long rides are training rides. I usually don't go by distance because distance can be decieveing. Training for my team is based on time spent with your heart rate in a certain zone. and each ride you set out to do stay in certainzones for a certain amount of time.
There are those days when you screw around and go and do 100+mile rides for the hell of it.

Do any of you guys ever get pissed of at the fucking wind?
Where I live(in the coast of Norway) the wind is absolutely brutal, and it can destroy your moral pretty easely when your struggeling to keep the bike moving forward in flat terrain. Does the wind ever affect your training? |

Yes. Today in my stage race I was doing, i got dropped after shitting on the bunch copious amounts, so had to solo around for 30km. When you end up slowing down on a 5% downhill due to wind, you know you are both i) knackered and ii) pissed off with wind.
In other news, the prologue went well for me, i finished the best out of those without a TT bike, or TT bars. So rolled into the first road stage placed about 35th out of 69 starters. I then led my team mate out (who on a full TT bike had gone 22 seconds slower than me) for two of the intermediate sprints. Well, first lap i led him out, and he took 3rd (5 seconds bonus) and then two laps later i dragged back the break of 3 only 100-150m up the road, and he took the win for 15seconds. He also managed to take another 3rd later in the race for 5 more seconds, therefore moving him back up into a good overall position. I was dropped last lap (12 laps!!!) and finished probs 3 minutes down on the bunch, who were 5 mins down on the 8 breakaway riders.
I started todays stage 35th overall, and my mate was 16th (one place away from points), with some riders not starting today, he was instantly in points scoring zone. I then rode one of the best rides of my life by always being in the right place at the right time, and even ripped it apart on some climbs on the second lap (of 2) for fun. Until i once again was dropped. But it's looking good for me for the Ras de Cmryu (welsh stage race) starting wednesday.
Info:
Prologue (sat am) - 6km
Stage 1 (sat pm) - 106km
Stage 2 (sun am) - 105km
Overall finish - approx 30th.

Thats really impressive rjc_43, looks like you where a super teammate, leading out to sprints and everything. I wish i could participate in some kind of stage race, but where I live there are barely any cycling races.
I went for an 110 km training ride today, weather was fine for 3 hours before suddenly it started pouring down rain and the fucking wind came to. But eventough the weather was pretty bad it was good training for a race im doing in the weekend which has a 25 km mountain in it.
I bet you dont have that in races in Britain |
