SP
1. Zdenek Stybar (Tsj) 95
2. Niels Albert 95
3. Sven Nys 86
4. Klaas Vantornout 78
5. Kevin Pauwels 77
6. Bart Aernouts 61
7. Erwin Vervecken 50
8. Gerben de Knegt (Ned) 47
9. Radomir Simunek (Tsj) 44
10. Sven Vanthourenhout 39
GVA
1. Sven Nys 171
2. Niels Albert 157
3. Zdenek Stybar (Tsj) 157
4. Kevin Pauwels 105
5. Bart Aernouts 103
6. Gerben de Knegt (Ned) 98
7. Dieter Vanthourenhout 85
8. Klaas Vantornout 81
9. Radomir Simunek (Tsj) 61
10. Enrico Franzoi (Ita) 57
And those WC's didnt usually have much to do with tactics(team tactics are pretty rare anyway in cross), but Nys just always used to be bad at the WC.
The year he did win the WC though (2005) he won everything; the World Championship, the World Cup, the Superprestige, the GVA Trofee and the Belgian Championship.
That is still unique in the sport. |

Thanks, looks like Nys for GVA and a Styby/Albert battle for SP.
I know theres not much in the way of tactics in cross, but i thought maybe he would be caught out cause of the large, strong Belgian team at world champs. This might not be the case in cross, but would it not look bad if there was another belgian out front and Nys was the one doing the work behind? Although cross is much more individual based than road so this may not matter... |

Well, it is usually the case that if a Belgian leads, another Belgian won't be chasing (in the WC), but usually in cross, the best riders get up front from the start so Nys shouldn't have to worry about chasing too much if he wanted to be the WC |

i wonder how Aigle got given a round of the cross world cup organised the UCI. It's a mystery to me.

Because thats where the UCI's HQ is
And Switzerland always used to be a big cross counrty as well, hosting some of the hardest crosses. Maybe that is returning.
But yeah, a shame Roubaix got ditched.
Treviso, not too much of a suprize to me. I had always wondersed why the Worlds where held there in the first place...
At least Hoogerheide is still in. That's the most important thing to me, so I can keep visiting it every year |

i knew the UCI HQ was in Aigle hence the
And Treviso was suprising because it was voted "Race of the year" by the UCI a few days back.

Could (read; should) have noticed that a bit better

I don't see any reasonable reason for them to give it that title? Maybe because Nys lost the World Cup there in the first race?
The course only has one interesting part, which is the very steep dirt hill, which can be climbed by only some riders. |

Indeed. A battle for the Cup how it should be. Absolutly fantastic.
I advice anyone who didnt see it to go and watch a video of the last lap as soon as it's uploaded somewhere. |

Great win for Stybar, thought Albert had it in the bag after the crash, but great comeback by Styby, he ripped it up on the las lap. Great race. |

So, tomorrow the last race of the season. Or at least that last one that matters. GVA sluitingsprijs Oostmalle.
If nothing goes wrong, Nys will win the GVA. Albert and Stybar can be looking forward to another battle though, since they're tied for second place.
After that (=next weekend), time for road races live on tv. (ok ok, Qatar was as well.) |

Well done by Wellens - but boring race. I almost fell asleep. Twice.
It was pretty funney though how Vantornout sprinted one lap before the actual finish, despite someone clearly ringing a bell indicating the final lap Even Nys looked at Stybar thinking 'What a fool' |

Great Wellens... Great season by Albert, but didn't win a thing in the end, no WC, SP, GvA, or Worlds... |
