How much do you guys work out during a week? (on the bike ofc)
Usually ride between 5 to 7 days a week and average around 400 k's, been forcing myself into rest days lately which takes getting used too.
On shifting out of the saddle, it is okay shift out of the saddle but not ideal, shifting under load is the issue so really depends on how hard you are going when you do it but it does put stresses on the drive train when shifting under load. All depends on the climbs but i'm usually in the gear and rolling when I hit climbs as that is my style but obviously changes as gradients do

I am always changing gear when out of the saddle, especially on steep climbs, is that a bad thing, can it do serious damage?
Normally no. But I guess that with an ageing material and a chain prone to roll around the derailleur, that was bound to happen in my case.
@mowinckel91 : it's very variable, depending whether I can run or not (injuries), depending on the weather, objectives, whether I'm on holidays or not, etc.
On a random week it's generally something like one or two 1h ride in the week time, then a 3 or 4 hours ride on Saturday and a 2h ride on Sunday. Plus a lot of running and a core session on Monday evening.
What a beast! I've read somewhere that core is very importen for cyclists. It helps you to transfer the power from your legs to the pedals. Am I onto something here ? |

I'm not a beast.
I'm often injured, so core training is especially important for me. It helps prevent most muscular injuries, or at least it takes a bigger effort to reach the point of injury.
For cycling it's also very important. I dare thinking my position on my road bike is quite good, with my back being almost horizontal when I have my hands down the hoods. But that position couldn't be sustained for long by everyone, as it creates constraints on the back.
Also, if you see Wiggins ride, and Froome for a blatant example, there's almost nothing moving on Wiggo, besides his legs spinning, which means all the power he produces is sent to the transmission, whereas Froome wastes energy moving his body in every possible direction on a bike, and certainly resulting in a very poor mechanical output (= loss of efficiency).
Also core training develops submaximal strength, which is important for cyclists (as power = strength x RPM). |

Found it, was just some wire ticking against the wheel. Just bent it a little and it's all good. Rode for the first time today, just on the flat and tarmac, but rode amazingly! With ease I rode 25 kmph, second part of the race was hell though, really hard winds and still got a nice tempo but it was tough . I was very hungry at the last though, so no energy left. |

How far did you ride and what was your average speed? Was this a race or just a normal trip ?
Enjoy it Timo!

Exactly the same problem I had with my bike, except it took me around a week to figure it out (mainly because I was too tired after rides to check it). It knows to be really, really annoying.

@Admir: I know, I hate it when I hear weird sounds, I always presume something is wrong and it annoys the hell out of me while riding. Also when your saddle is making sounds, and often the derailleur or something. |

Glad you pinned the sound down it can be infuriating and is often an indication that something's awry. Most common one for me is a crank creaking/clicking but thankfully a bit of lube seems to do the trick.
On the subject of lube does anyone know why the base (as in inside the hoods) of my brake levers have turned green? Imagine it's some reaction with the minimal lubricant, it's a bit awkward to get at but I can clean it off ok :/

Nice work there matey, sometimes a break from the bike can really fire you up once you get back into it so keep it going.
Looks like I will finally hit my 400 k weekly goal again this week after some up and down weeks, no massive rides but did manage 113 k's yesterday over 3 rides. The body is finally coming back but now I'm having sleep issues again but I'll blame that on the Giro for now
Arrrrgh! It's time for a new BB now for the bike, in the last 2 weeks I have replaced the chain, cassette, headset and rolling on new wheels. The saddle is almost done aswell but that's no surprise since it has done roughly 9000 k's. Guess all this Everesting has taken it's toll on my beastly little bike

160 km today. I actually didn't plan on it and just wanted to accompay a bit but when the ride works, you'd be a fool if you don't take advantage of it.
Since I've been sorta lazy when it comes to cycling this week, I'm happy that I could end the week with such a ride and start the new month with it too.
Some nice elevation there this week Aquarius. Looks like the elevation ranking number one spot goes to you for this week - but I shall strike back next week (if the weather finally works in my favor).

Went about 10 miles off course today but managed a lovely 110-miler in gorgeous sunshine - post-exam freedom is delicious.
