Tour de l'Ain

A form-building race for everyone but Nokkvason.

The team did great to leave Kristoff in perfect position for the sprint on stage 2 and in spite of still recovering after his injury the Norwegian managed to take the stage win ahead of Boeckmans!

A 4th place in the TTT put Kristoff in the leaderâ€™s jersey before the final three hilly stages.

Stage 4 turned surprising as Nokkvason cracked completely while Chris Anker proved in shape by coming out on top in a battle between three Nordic teams. Johann proved the strongest young rider so the day wasnâ€™t all bad for him.

The Nordic domination continued on stage 5 as the three teams took care of the top 6 with Intxausti the strongest on the day.

On the final stage Cort was in the break and contested for the stage win. He only got 3rd, but thatâ€™s a good result for him as well!

Intxausti managed to create a small gap to Chris. Fortunately it wasnâ€™t recognized by the race committee and Chris held on to the GC win in a surprisingly bad race for the home teams.

Sweet performance by all nordic riders, especially C.A. SÃ¶rensen and Kristoff. Bad for Nokkvason though, who wasn't able to prove his recent top shape.

Shonak: Yes, I had much higher hopes for Nokkvason, but sometimes that's how thigns go. He just wasn't able to match Kennaugh & Co. A youth jersey is a good thing for him as well though!

Another great win for the team although in races like that Nokkvason should be leading as the competition is a bit weak for Chris Anke.

It was only when Chris was in yellow that he was allowed to defend himself and then LÃ¶fkvist was told to cover Nokkvason. The Icelandic rider just hit a stroke of bad daily form combined with him not really enjoying hills compared to mountains

Chris needed the race days to get in shape for San Sebastian and the Vuelta and I'm not one for just throwing a race away if Plan A doesn't work...

We want to do well here. Itâ€™s a race where a lot can happen in the finish and we have many riders who given the right opportunity can do great thingsâ€¦

Kessiakoff was instrumental in establishing the early break.

In fact as soon as they hit the first small hill all the others cracked and Fredrik was left alone out in front.

The fact that Landbouwkredit is the team spending the most time in front of the peloton says it all. With 150 km to go they have allowed Kessiakoffâ€™s gap to grow to more than 11 minutes.

That gets Cofidis and Belisol to the front.

With 70 km to go the gap is down to 6 minutes.

Our captains sit comfortably behind Cofidis with 45 km to go.
Kessiakoff still has more than 4 minutes gap.

With 28 km to go the gap hits one minute and a new group tries to establish. Ludvigsson jumps in there.

Or rather he tries to as the only rider, who actually gets a gap is Kreuziger, but with 15 km to go and only 20 seconds to the peloton his chances are slim at best.

LÃ¶fkvist and SÃ¸rensen works hard, but Kreuziger is having the day of his life and with 3,6 he still has about half a minutes gap.

With just over 1 km left Breschel is in 3rd position.

Kreuziger takes a deserved win after an impressive race where he managed to keep the dedicated chasers behind.
Breschel takes a fine second place.

Vuelta a EspaÃ±a

The Vuelta holds a special part in our hearts. On one side itâ€™s the only GT, which has never been won by a Nordic rider on the other side itâ€™s where we got our first GT podium with Chris Anker SÃ¸rensen in 2014. This year we bring a stronger team than ever determined to help Ipsen to at least a podium, but still with nr 4 and 5 from last year as back-up plans.

This year we will be revisiting the 2011-route:
1 TTT (15 km)
5 Flat stages
8 Hilly stages (2 uphill finishes)
6 Mountain stages (5 summit finishes)
1 ITT (42 km)

Three climbers stand out on paper: AntÃ³n, Sicard and Ipsen. The last two also being decent TTâ€™ers while AntÃ³n is better on the short climbs. With only one finish on top of a hill oddâ€™s are that wonâ€™t help him too muchâ€¦
Elissonde is considered the big favourite for the youth classification.

For the sprints Kittel looks like the man to beat with guys like Appolonio, Goss and Rojas being his main challengers.

As traditionally the Vuelta starts with a team time trial.

Unfortunately I got a puncture on the way to the start so the team rode without me in the car. Considering the result it seems that wasnâ€™t really a big problemâ€¦

Vuelta off to a perfect start. Line-Up is very nice with riders such as Kreuziger or Henao. Beating AntÃ³n will be tough but Ipsen will surely have learned one or two tricks from Fuglsang on how to beat AntÃ³n.

Nice performance at San Sebastian too!

I agree thet it would have been nice if another rider had crossed the line first, but that's the downside of simming the stage. ANy way I would expect someone else to take it on the flat 2nd stage...

Shonak: There's a lot of second-tier GC riders with different forces so it should be an interesting race!

Looks like party-day for Kittelâ€¦

After the brilliant TTT yesterday we have all the pressure today. Haedo is the first rider to challenge us.

Pacheco is first over the climb and will be the first wearer of the mountain jersey.

Plenty of teams volunteer to control the break for us early on, so the day isn't too hard for the boys.

Towards the finish the sprinter teams left the front for whatever reasno and forced us to do all the chasing.

When the sprint began Breschel got caught behind the riders falling back after having pulled for the last 30 km and lost a lot of positions for the sprint.

Hutarovich takes the stage ahead of team mate Ciolek, but both Alex and Matti put in a very strong final km.

The bonus seconds put the Belarussian in red as well.

Stage 3: Petrer â€“ Totana

This is what the Vuelta-organizers call a flat stage. Itâ€™s far from a classic sprint stage thoughâ€¦

Surprisingly for us Nissan allowed Kessiakoff to go in the break.

With 100 km to go the break has a gap of 7â€™30â€™â€™

Rabobank and Nissan forge an alliance chasing down the break while the rest of our guys have a quiet day this far.

40 km and 4 minutes.

Kessiakoff, Larralde, Cooke and Tennant get rid of the other breakers on the climb.

Kessiakoff is caught with 8 km to go abd Larralde is first into the final 5 km while Ipsen is making an attack from the peloton with Breschel on his wheel.

Ipsen is caught by the sprinters at the 1 km mark.

They cannot get hold of the world champion though!
