Maybe the course was twisted and favoured punchers a bit more ? Also Europcar are almost locals in Poitou-Charentes, so he might have known the course better than his main opponents. I seriosuly doubt he would, yes he would have come likely 2nd ( he didn't have a power meter as well so it was hard for him to judge his performance ) however 23 seconds margin is a destruction, very doubtful he would have beated him.
