You saw how happy Simoni was after Zoncolan. I doubt he has enough motivated or skilled to hang on against TT aces. |

yup. he said himself that from the moment he finished the Tre Cime stage, all he cared about was winning on the Zoncolan.
He said he's "done that" (podium finishes), and one more is "irrelevant" |

At the start of the season, it was announced that Marchante would be the captain for the Tour, and Mayo would skip it, in favor of being in reasonable form for the Giro and great form for the Vuelta.
now it seems Mayo might do the Tour, so...it's all a bit hairy. But the GC leader is definitely going to be Marchante.
Also, the team has recently announced that no-one from the Giro team is to do the Tour with the possible exception of Mayo. |

On a sidenote...an interview on Rai Sport today made me laugh...
first, Riccò was asked about his stage win. he said something along the lines of "Simoni told me to go for the breakaway..."
then, they separately interview Simoni...
"So, Gilberto, how about Riccardo's stage win?"
and Gibo answers...
"yes, when I saw him going, I was so surprised I yelled at him that he was crazy, that it was never going to work"
the puzzled looking reporter tells Gibo what Riccò said previously.
Simoni just stares in disbelief...
"Are you sure?"
the reporter confirms.
Simoni just walks away

Mayo looks reasonable joyce.. he is getting better and better on giro. First two weeks he was invisible. I starting to form Saunier fan...they own such a decent team and will be in picture in all big tour of the season and thats all for reasnoble budget compared to wealthy teams. Like Discovery was my biggest disappointment in Giro...Popo just cant show what he is capable and all exspecting. Hard season is a head...I hope a lot from Tom Danielson at he's first TdF and Contador return after strong beginning of the season (Brjakovic is another intresting rider).
I find Ricco is kind of stupid to leave Saunier..he is young rider Saunier is best place to learn..he have some ego problems. |

Heres whatCyclingnews.com about Saunier's tour line up:
Only Iban Mayo will double up. David Millar will start in London with high ambitions for the prologue, and Christophe Rinero will keep the French flavour of the team. The rest will be Spanish with José Angel Gomez Marchante possibly in the role of captain, Iker Camaño, Tour of the Basque country winner Juan José Cobo, David De La Fuente, Ruben Lobato and Francisco Ventoso. |

Gomez Marchante is indeed Saunier captain. But Mayo's goal all along was the Tour de France, not the Vuelta. So I don't know why you think Mayo's goal was the Vuelta, issoisso |

Matxin's interview on the Saunier website back at the start of the season.
I'm having some DNS problems right now, so I can't open the site, but I'll try to find the link as soon as I can.
EDIT: found it, and you're right, Ruben. my bad.
On another topic.
TT today, and Zabriskie claims to be in the form of his life (although coming from DaveZ it could be a joke).
the time trial is long, and if not a stop-start kind of course, he could well win by a margin...
Any other favorites people will care to mention? Savoldelli? Bodrogi? Bruseghin? Vandborg? (didn't he retire?) Ignatiev?

As usual in an Italian event, there don't seem to be any intermediate time checks, which means watching the stage is about as good as reading the results...
you only get the final times |

It looks like Mikhail Ignatiev has taken the early lead. |

on Di Luca? on paper, no chance. in practice...it's cycling...who knows.
but I do think Schleck's time trial abilities are overrated by many who haven't yet seen him TT.
however, I've never seen him do one this long, so...It's very much possible that I'll be proven wrong.
EDIT: now that I think about it...I'll be surprised if he doesn't lose time to Di Luca...

done. Zabriskie 30 secs. faster.
and finally, the intermediate check is up and running....although so far it's only one and it's fairly close to the finish
EDIT: finally, all the time checks are up. Zabriskie lost bucketloads of time in the final sector

either it was because the wind changed or it's gonna cost him. if it doesn't happen to Savoldelli and Bruseghin also, Zabriskie isn't gonna win this
EDIT: Savo is flying....half a minute ahead after 30km

Done.
Zabriskie and Bodrogi lost A LOT of time by having to TT on wet roads.
those were almost dry by the time the favorites departed
Savoldelli
Mazzoleni +36''
Zabriskie +38''
Bodrogi +1'08''
Bruseghin +1'16''
Schleck +1'28'' (yup, he proved me wrong...he beat Di Luca...)
Nibali +1'54''
Di Luca +1'57''
Ignatiev +2'01''
Petrov +2'11''
Cunego +2'17''
Simoni +2'44''
GC:
Di Luca
Schleck
Mazzoleni (if he hadn't lost 2 mins at the Zoncolan, he would've won the Giro....or if he hadn't lost 2 mins on the second mountain stage...)
Simoni
Cunego
Riccò
Petrov
Bruseghin
Pellizotti
Arroyo
one can only wonder what would've happened if Lampre hadn't defended Di Luca's lead with 6 riders a few stages ago...
Congrats Danilo!
