Cobbles are not the team's specialty, but once again a solid performance from Siric (and Poljanec), especially for Siric it will be interesting to see how he progresses in the off season and whether you perhaps plan on training him a bit (and if you're able to finance it).
Enger with some decent sprints is also good to see!

Gonna second what Nemo said about cobbles not being the team's strength but still Siric and the rest have been able to keep the points flowing in. Great first season in the PT continues...

I'm pleasantly surprised how well Siric has done this season. He's been a non factor in flat races so pretty much all his scoring has come on the cobbles. Although I feel he had a couple of lucky good results that really made that happen.
Hopefully I can improve my fun on the cobbles in the coming years

It's really mostly been Siric when it came to scoring on cobbles. Maybe I try to add a bit to my homegrown cobbled unit in the offseason.

Indeed, Siric had a couple of surprisingly strong results this year. His tactical choices weren't always the smartest, but I'm sure he'll learn from his mistakes and come back even stronger next year! Great to see your homegrown talents doing so well - a PT Top 10 (which you should achieve) is quite something in your first year at the highest level!

We know we are going to be up against some of the best sprinters. It's Enger last race of the season and while it would be nice to finish on a high note, there isn't really any pressure to do so. As usual we also have a bunch of young riders in the team to gain experience.

I wouldn't say some of his lesser results are down to tactics. As a 76 CB only it's pretty normal that the AI won't take notice of him sometimes or inversely send him in one of those mid race attacks. It is what it is for now. Also some races on paper suit him much better than others.

The penultimate ranking update is a very small one for us as we only attended two races. As such we won't spend too much time on it.
We had a mandatory PT stage with the Tour of Northern Europe. It wasn't the most exciting race for us, but Sondre Holst Enger finished top 5 in all the sprint stages and ended 4th on points, just based on that it was a solid outing. The other race was the cobble classic, Tour of the Battenkill. Due to race clashes the startlist there wasn't as strong as a usual PT race. That meant it was an opportunity for Ivan Siric and it turned into another solid result as he finished 12th on the day.
We dropped in the ranking from 5th down to 8th. A top finish was never on the cards really, nor do we need it. It's been a long and fun season, and now we are nearly at the end.

Gorazd Stangelj:
The last race of the season. During our time in PCT we always had high hopes for the season finale, but that isn't the case this season. Still this is a monument race so we need to get something out of it, even if it's just knowledge and experience. With the current iteration of the team we still have things to learn for a race like this.

Jonathan made it into the early breakaway, that's usually a good omen for us in one day races. Enger was attentive with his positioning in the final 10 km. It was clear that he would be able to participate in the sprint finish, 9th place is a very solid result to close out his season. Groselj added some points with one his better results of the year.

Ivan Siric fought hard to get in the breakaway, after that the race became difficult. The climbs on the way to Como were simply too hard for our measured climbers and our puncheurs. Geoffrey Bouchard just managed to hold on to a top 50 finish. Not the best way to finish, but it's been a long season so we're all happy to go on our holidays.

It's gonna be hard to come close to what we did this season, but just having another year in PT is great and it sets us up to try and accomplish some long term goals

We will keep this fairly short, but first we will go through the final races of the season, (there are just two) before we address the end of the season.
The only races that were left for us were mandatory ones. The sprint classic in Moscow and the final monument, Giro di Lombardia. We did well in Russia as Enger sprinted to a 9th place finish. We were less favoured in Italy as we simply don't have the riders to compete at a high level in any type of hilly races. With that said the last races were more of a formality as in the big picture our season was effectively already finished.
Speaking of the big picture, we are still somewhat stunned at how well we did ultimately. 8th place is not something we thought to be achievable with the preseason goal of a top 10 finish treated as more of a pipedream. We were able to carry the good feelings from the transfer season into actual races and everything seemingly fell into place. Our main three leaders in Pogacar, Geoghegan Hart and Enger all performed at a very high level. The latter especially exceeded our expectations. Lammertink proved to be an inspired signing, Habtemichael added depth to the stage racing department and Ivan Siric showed promise in his 1st season as a maxed rider. It was a real team effort by everyone, which is an ethos we have built over the last couple of seasons.
We will recap all the riders performances later in the off season. Also we will have further posts about the season and future developments. But first we all go on a much deserved vacation. Stay tuned until then.

Race | Country | Category | Goal | Cost | Tour of Ukraine | | 2.PTHC | Win | **** | Paris-Nice | | 2.PT | Top 10 | ** | Vuelta a Espana | | 2.GTM | Stage Win | ** | Tour de France | | 2.GTM | Top 10 | *** | Team Standings | | MGUCI | Top 10 | *** |
Tour of Ukraine - FAILURE We are still looking to complete the mandatory win goal, and we will probably look for that for quite some time still. Tao Geoghegan Hart was 6th in Ukraine, so a pretty good effort in all.
We tend to have one of these every year, doing well enough to where we would've complete a higher goal. Tao was excellent as he finished 3rd overall.
Vuelta a Espana - SUCCESS I don't recall if we ever made the choice of winning a stage as a goal, but it suited us well here. The initial idea was to go the Vuelta with a sprinter, but we ended up sending out TTT unit that delivered as we expected.
We were fairly confident with this goal. The startlist wasn't too tough so in the end Tadej Pogacar finished in a comfortable 6th place for the top 10 requirement.
PT Team Standings - SUCCESS This is always the goal that gives the best feeling if you achieve it. We were barely fancied to stay in the division, so a top 10 finish looked unlikely. But we were able to beat the odds to finish in 8th place, firmly in the top 10. By far the best achievement of the season!

Tadej Pogacar
Tadej was our primary GC leader for the mountain stage races. We put a lot on his plate, but him being U25 eligible certainly added a lot to his scoring. He didn't have any incredible highs, but he showed incredible consistency across the entire season. The pinnacle of course had to be the Tour de France as it was probably his best performance in the biggest race there is.
Best result(s):
Tour de France (2.GTM) | 6th Overall, 1st U25 | Tirreno-Adriatico (2.PT) | 7th Overall, 1st U25 | GP Liechtenstein (1.PT) | 8th | Criterium du Dauphine Libere (2.PTHC) | 5th Overall, 1st U25 | Scandinavian Open Road Race (2.PT) | 10th Overall, 2nd U25 |
Sondre Holst Enger
Enger came to the team rather late in transfers. Not a particularly heralded addition after we struck out on some bigger names. Still we wouldn't have brought him in if we didn't feel he could prove to be successful...
From a spot off the San Remo podium, a Giro stage win and day in pink, double stage win at Tirreno-Adriatico or the completely improbable 2nd overall in Deutschland. We got more than we bargained for.
Best result(s):
Milano San Remo (2.GTM) | 4th | Tour of Deutschland (2.PTHC) | 2nd Overall, Stage win | Tirreno-Adriatico (2.PT) | 2x Stage win | Giro d'Italia (2.GTM) | Stage win | Tour of Qatar (2.PT) | 10th Overall | GP Moscow (1.PT) | 9th |
Tao Geoghegan Hart
Tao was the big free agent addition of the transfer season. With extra TT training he was positioned to lead our team in the hybrid time-trial races. We took some risks in planning ahead with him in mind, so once we achieved the above, we could put him in a good position to succeed. Like Pogacar he exhibited tremendous consistency throughout the season.
Best result(s):
Paris-Nice (2.PT) | 3rd Overall | Scandinavian Open Road Race (2.PT) | 4th Overall | Vuelta a Espana (2.GTM) | 10th Overall | Tour de Suisse (2.PTHC) | 5th Overall | Tour of Slovenia (2.PTHC) | 5th Overall | Tour of Ukraine (2.PTHC) | 6th Overall |
Steven Lammertink
Brought in as the best time-trial specialist we've ever had, he certainly proved that description to be correct. In conjunction with signing Geoghegan Hart, improving our TT room was something we looked at, but we were also thinking past this season in case things didn't go well. Steven was also very consistent and scored some bonus points as he survived the hills in a few stage races.
Best result(s):
Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha (2.PT) | 7th Overall | Tour of Tasmania (2.PT) | 7th Overall | Chrono des Herbiers (1.PT) | 9th | Tour of Slovenia (2.PTHC) | 11th Overall | Tour of Ukraine (2.PTHC) | 13th Overall |
Damien Howson
Very similar to the addition of Lammertink, Damien proved to be a solid contributor to the team in the TT heavy races. Another low wage addition that we hoped would have value going forward. His best results came in the pan flat TT races.
Best result(s):
Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha (2.PT) | 9th Overall | Chrono des Herbiers (1.PT) | 10th | Tour of Tasmania (2.PT) | 15th Overall | Tour of Deutschland (2.PTHC) | 14th Overall |
Daniel Habtemichael
Another new addition to the team. Daniel was brought in due to his age profile and ability to boost the mountain stage racing department. Apart from the Giro where he had a free role, he mostly backed up either Pogacar or Geoghegan Hart. Plenty of top 20 depth results in what was a good first season with us.
Best result(s):
Tour de France (2.GTM) | 16th Overall | Giro d'Italia (2.GTM) | 22nd Overall | Tour de Suisse (2.PTHC) | 12th Overall | Tour of Slovenia (2.PTHC) | 13th Overall | Scandinavian Open Road Race (2.PT) | 17th Overall |
Ivan Siric
This was Ivan's first season with maxed stats. We were mostly looking at it as a learning season for him, going up against the best cobbled specialists in the world. It was very much a season of highs and lows, but just the fact that there were highs is very encouraging.
Best result(s):
Roma Maxima (1.PTHC) | 2nd | Ronde van Vlaanderen (1.GTM) | 10th | Tour of the Battenkill (1.PTHC) | 12th | E3 Prijs (1.PT) | 17th |
Milos Borisavljevic
Milos had a very similar role to Habtemichael in supporting our two main GC men. It's a role he was already accustomed to from last year. Consistent depth scoring is what he does best.
Best result(s):
Tour de France (2.GTM) | 22nd Overall | Scandinavia Open Road Race (2.PT) | 22nd Overall | Tour of Ukraine (2.PTHC) | 21st Overall | Tour de Suisse (2.PTHC) | 22nd Overall |
Lawson Craddock
Craddock felt like a bit of a luxury signing late in transfers. He's a good not great TTer and a solid climber, but he proved to be a worthy addition. In fact he might have been unlucky on a few occasions so his final output could have been significantly higher.
Best result(s):
Scandinavia Open Road Race (2.PT) | 14th Overall | Tour of Ukraine (2.PTHC) | 16th Overall | Tour of Slovenia (2.PTHC) | 21st Overall |
Geoffrey Bouchard
I have a lot of respect for Geoffrey. We actually tried to move him on in transfers, but couldn't find a team for him. It's good that we weren't forced to sell him as he again proved what a useful rider he is. He was in a more rigid domestique role this year, but he still managed to score a decent amount.
Best result(s):
Giro d'Italia (2.GTM) | 23rd Overall | Tour de France (2.GTM) | 33rd Overall |
Dusan Rajovic
We have to be honest that we didn't use Dusan to his full extent. Of course Enger got priority for the more sprint heavy races, but also at times we opted for a time-trialist or a stage race domestique instead. Dusan proved he can perform if given the chance so we will try to find more opportunities for him next year.
Best result(s):
Paris-Nice (2.PT) | Stage win | Criterium du Dauphine Libere (2.PTHC) | Stage win |
David Gaudu
After years of focusing on hilly races a departure of that terrain meant a reduced role for David Gaudu. For the most part he still did what was expected of him. He slotted in as a consistent top 20 PT puncheur in classics and he was a trusty domestique for our GC leaders.
Best result(s):
Classique du Grand-Duche (1.PT) | 17th | Fleche Wallone (1.PT) | 17th | Amstel Gold Race (1.PT) | 19th | Clasica San Sebastian (1.PTHC) | 16th | Liege - Bastogne - Liege (1.GTM) | 26th |
Giorgi Nareklishvili
Nareklishivili came in to add more depth to our TT group and most of all improved our team time-trial. He provided a solid scoring output and we hope to bring him back on a slightly lower wage to boost efficiency for next season.
Matic Groselj
Groselj proved he is a useful rider in PT as well. His TT ability is not quite at the highest level, but he provides solid value by scoring some points in flat classics. He also did a good job looking after Enger on a few occasions.
Best result(s):
Veenendaal - Veenendall (1.PTHC) | 16th | GP Moscow (1.PT) | 26th | Great Ocean Road Classic (1.PTHC) | 20th |
Veljko Stojnic
This is a purely developmental season for Veljko and actually his first full season here with us. He rode in a lot of races to gain experience, but he managed to add some unexpected points to our tally with his King of the Mountains in Nederland.
Best result(s):
Ronde van Nederland (2.PT) | KOM 1st |
Michael Christodoulos
Following the same schedule as Nareklishivili his role was the same. Another triple digit scorer for us, he's an important part of our TT group and we see him in that role for years to come.
Miha Poljanec
I think I've already said numerous times what an awesome rider Miha is. His role was slightly reduced this year as he mainly focused on the cobbled and flat classics. Still he finds a way to come up with a few good results. He's slowly transitioning into the latter part of his career where he is becoming more of a road captain.
Best result(s):
Macskako Kerekparverseny (1.PT) | 19th | Tour of the Battenkill (1.PTHC) | 23rd |
Santiago Buitrago
We have to be honest, Santiago's transition to PT wasn't the easiest. He was mostly used as a helper and couldn't really find ways to impact the team from a scoring perspective. He was still unmaxed, so next year will be the real test for him.
Matevz Govekar
We used Matevz in all sorts of races to give him as much experience as possible. He's still 2 years away from reaching his potential.
Fred Wright
Fred Wright rode most of the one day races on our schedule. That's the primary role we see him having as he continues his development. We saw him enter some breakaways across the season.
Jernej Svab
We used up the last of our free agent funds to take a chance on Jernej. He had a couple decent rides in the hilly cobbled races, but overall we were hoping to see a fair few breakaways from him, but that didn't happen.
Jonathan Croes
We haven't been loaning in riders in the last couple of years, Jonathan was our sole loanee as we felt a responsibility as a PT team to help out the lower divisions. He didn't have a noteworthy result, but he rode a bunch of races including the Giro d'Italia.
Kristjan Hocevar
A development season for Hocevar. We put him in a lot of races not suited to his skills purely for experience. Hopefully next year we can tailor his schedule more towards his abilities.
Izidor Penko
It feels a bit weird to have Penko as the last rider here as he was a pretty important rider in the last couple of seasons. This year we had to reduce his role as we had so many better TTers, but we will probably find a bigger role for him next year.
