Stage 4 (ITT) | Castro Marim › Tavira, 34.8 km
As I rolled off the start podium in the white jersey as leader of the Under-25 classification, it didn’t take long for me to find my rhythm on the bicycle I had spent countless hours riding through the Arizonian desert.
I flew towards the first checkpoint as I clocked the second time of the day. Eight seconds behind Taylor Phinney, but more importantly 16 seconds ahead of Brajkovic and 50 seconds faster than Jungels, specialists in this discipline.
With the second half of the stage mostly downhill, I started to really get into my cadence. Seemingly automatically taking the good line in each and every corner. Corners I started to accelerate in with a bit more daring when Josu told me Uran was already chasing me by 14 seconds at the first checkpoint.
Coming through the last corner in Tavira just ahead of the finish, I was still completely tensed up in the perfect aero position as I kept peddling as hard I could.
Crossing the finish-line it didn’t take long for the Tissot sponsored clock to show my time. I had taken 22 seconds longer than Phinney on the course, but I had beaten both Brajkovic and Evans by over 20 seconds! Uran who had started two minutes after me didn’t even come close. I had officially won my first stage race of my career, as I was sent to the podium to take the yellow and white jersey home!

@fernando97, @sutty68
Thanks! And it might have actually been my best TT performance in my entire CYM/PCM career.

With the wooden motoric of a 45 year old I picked up my bicycle from the tarmac, the carbon stallion in better shape than I was. The pebbles lodged in my lower-back and rear-end, which in turn where washed out by the cold rain, provided for an unpleasant sharp pain as I placed myself back on the saddle.
Fortunately the finale hadn’t started yet so it was relatively easy to get back into the peloton, but the combination of pain and cold rain, didn’t do my morale much good. After 7km I called it a day. I just wanted to wash myself out, go home and cozy up with Daphné in our new twin bed. A few extra nights as newly engaged couple sounding like the perfect doctors recipe.
Later on in the week I would end up deciding not to go to Italy for the Strade Bianche. Instead use the extra day of recovery to completely focus myself on Paris-Nice.
In the meantime the race had become prey of Greg van Avermeat, who had the fortune of being carried towards the duo of Vanmarcke and Stybar by Cancellara. Last year’s de Ronde winner then proceeding to attack out of the group and nobody left to respond proved his recipe for success today.

Unlucky crash, at least Nicholas will have a bit of a break before the P-N with Daphné. |

Stage 1 TTT | Creteil › Evry, 24 km
Riccardo Zoidl, Fabian Cancellara, Nicholas Arcier, Bob Jungels, Kristof Vandewalle, Stijn Devolder, Jesse Sergent, Blair Fisher
The sponsor took the team its status as World TTT Champion seriously and was determined to have us confirm our success in the first WorldTour TTT of the season. With guys like Riccardo, Fabian, Jesse and Kristof in our team, I would have to be at my utmost best to hold on for the entire ride.
Thankfully the extra day of rest I had taken seemed to have done me good as I managed to contribute in all relays, until the final 5km. I would finish the day in the same place I started, last in our train as I had to place myself in Fisher his wheel and hold on till we crossed the finish. (Fisher who at the age of 19 had impressively won the Australian National Road Race title in January.)
Stars of the day where Zoidl and Vandewalle as they served as two of our main locomotives today, more so than Fabian. It was logical to let the Belgium cross the line first when we finished, as we crushed Tinkoff-Saxo their time by 29 seconds.
Our main rivals Team Sky and Team Astana would both fall just short of our time. Meaning Vandewalle would be the first maillot jaune wearer of Paris-Nice 2015.

Stage 2 | Montreau-Fault-Yonne › Dijon, 238.5 km
Before we even really started with the race towards the sun we were already one man down. Blair Fisher had come down with a heavy fever in the morning and was advised to abandon.
Besides the Australian his departure there wasn’t much else to say about this stage. As 181 riders where wishing for the rainbow curse to be real, one man crushed all their dreams.
In what definitely was the most dominant sprint I had ever seen, the World Champion Peter Sagan launched himself to the stage win. Having plenty of spare time to do the chicken dance as he crossed the finish. The maillot jaune was switched from Kristof his shoulders to those of Fabian as the Swiss finished ahead of the Belgian today.

Definitely. Though with Arcier and Devolder the lowest rated TTers at 71. It would have been an embarrassment had we not won. This is till the only TTT under 25km I have won in PCM13.

I remember that TT route so well! I think I even made exactly the same photo (literally the same location) with Trek, back in days. I may be wrong, but at least it brings memories back.
Oh and great victory by the team there! All in all, solid performances by Arcier and especially Cancellara so far.
