Update #2 - What to expect for next season So, guys, I finally made my decision of how to continue! I won't run a manager-game, but still will ask for some help in the pre-season race planning. I will also get some changes for the DB, which will be announced during the pre-season. Here's some new features you can look forward to:
New races - 3 new events will make the 2014 schedule
New ranking system - Details will be announced soon
Regions added - 7 new regions/sates will be added, like Tasmania or South Australia.
New teams - a complete list of changes is yet to be announced
New riders - of course some new faces will make the NRS next year
Need your help - Join the team! If you want to help me with the race planning, which will hopefully make for a thrilling competition (with some riders missing specific races), please send an application via PM! I will give you more details in response.
Within the PM, please answer the following questions, so that I know if you're going to put a little effort in it:
Why do you want to help me with this stuff?
Who's been your favorite rider in the NRS last season and why?
If you didn't follow, just let me know why you're applying
The race planning will be kept secret - at least until the season's ready to kick off. Also thanks to TheManxMissile for some useful input on some of my ideas. Of course, thanks to the other opinions, too!

Only one application so far, that has to be better, guys
And feel free to ask any question here, if something's not clear enough. I'm hoping for something like 5-10 "managers", who will do the race-planning for one specific team each. And don't be afraid: the planning won't be complicated

I promise you it won't take more than 10 minutes to do the planning Plus you will have a couple of weeks time anyway, as i won't start the season too soon. Would be cool to have you on board, Van der Ploeg wants to know which races he has to do next year

Still waiting (and hoping) for more applications for the season planning. Here's another update on new features for the upcoming second season of this story:
Update #3 - Season will kick off with a bang! The 2014 season will kick off with one of Australia's most important events: the Australian National Road Championships!
Our well known NRS-riders will try to compete with some of Australia's best cyclists from teams like Orica - GreenEdge or Garmin: will the likes of Van der Ploeg or Earle stand a chance to compete with Luke Durbridge, Richie Porte or Jack Bobridge?
Another highlight prior to the NRS-season: the Oceanian Road Championships! Aussies and Kiwis from the NRS will fight for a prestigious title!

Thanks, mate! Could add some fun to the story for those, who're missing the big names in cycling
And of course the possibility to have the Aussie NC-shirt to be seen in NRS events!

@Miguel: Not sure if Goss will be there, but Norris to win it would be nice!
@all: You still can apply for the race planning-stuff! The more, the better!
MARK O'BRIEN JOINS EURIDE RACING FOR ANOTHER TRY
Budget Forklift's Mark O'Brien, runner-up in the NRS 2013, surprisingly announced that he will leave the team after two years and join South Australian based Euride Racing for another try to grab the NRS-title in 2014!
O'Brien did wear the leader-shirts in the last two seasons.. but he didn't at the end of the seasons!
O'Brien was the premier climber of the 2012 and 2013 National Road Series with six overall tour victories in total and of course two NRS-podiums.
He will now join a strong looking Euride squad: the team run by O'Brien's long-time coach and current Australian head of track endurance, Tim Decker, is a perfect fit for the Australian climber, who will be racing alongside London Olympian Alex Edmondson amongst other regular Euride members like Harry Carpenter or George Tansley.
"I'm looking forward to my new team. I had two good years with Budget, but I think a change can make me finally win the title!"

It's a tough loss indeed, but you better be sure that Budget will have a strong team for 2014 anyway
He recently signed with Euride irl, too, so i thought this could be a nice move in "my" NRS as well

Well, O'Brien is still there will be interesting to see, what he does with a less strong climbing team though.
But actually, VdP will have more competition anyway! More news maybe later or tomorrow!

GIACOPPO AND WALKER COME BACK TO AUSTRALIA
Two superstars will make their comeback to the NRS in 2014: Anthony Giacoppo (Huon-Genesys) and William Walker (Drapac) confirmed their return to Australia's premier cycling series! One day after O'Brien announced his move to Euride Racing, this is "big" news for 2013's best team Budget Forklifts!
Giacoppo celebrated several wins in 2012 and will be amongst the top-sprinters next season!
Giacoppo, 28, finished 2nd overall in the NRS two years ago and should be rated as one of the best sprinters in the series! It will be interesting to see, how Huon-Genesys will handle their two fast men (Giacoppo, Beckinsale) next season: definitely one of the most dangerous duo for the sprints.
Walker, former U23 Road Champion, won the Tour of Gippsland in 2012. Will he be back in same shape?
Victorian based William Walker, 29, will be one of the most promising riders for the hillier races. Finishing 5th in NRS in 2012, Walker could be the well needed scorer for Drapac in stage races: "We had some tough times against the likes of O'Brien, Earle, Van der Ploeg or Haig last year, so Walker should be a key factor in 2014!"

Giacoppo looks like he could be a threat for the NRS Title this season |

Lets not forget that tsmoah planned to scrap the different categories... I doubt that any sprinter has a chance to contest for the overall title. With the category system though, I could well see him up there with Davison!

That's true, but there will be some further changes that may suit those sprinters: two completely flat stage races, one more flat classic and the new race planning system, where stage racers will have less race days. Plus the fact that sprinters use to win more single stages, this may give Davison and Giacoppo a realistic chance. At least i hope so
