Vuelta Asturias – Stage 4
Stage Preview
O man, I’m happy when this race has been finished. Serious. I don’t like it, because we don’t have serious opportunities, but well, that’s the position in which we are. Today was a day when we don’t have any chance. But at least, I can say it was our best stage of this race so far, but I guess that tomorrow’s stage won’t be better.
Well, after a lot of attacking and a peloton that caught all the riders, we finally got a breakaway of six riders. Not one, but two riders were of our team. Freire and Watson, both in great shape, saw opportunities this stage. Well, at least during the intermediate sprints. They were first and second at the first intermediate sprint, first and second at the mountain sprint and finally, surprise, they were first and second at the last intermediate sprint. So, our best day this race. Now you see how worse our earlier stages were. The annoying part of the stage was that the breakaway only got 1,5 minutes lead from the peloton. That’s not the way how it’s fun to race. But we can’t do anything about it.
Three of our riders were in the first group at the finish, which is not bad. Vini-Fantini is great this race and they got their second stage win. Race leader Garzelli won, after Di Luca won the first stage. Tomorrow is the last stage, and we can only hope to have a good day.
Today's winner

Vuelta Asturias – Stage 5
Stage Preview
And finally, the final stage here. Couldn’t wait any longer. I’m happy to go home. But first the stage. A group of eight or nine riders attacked, with Rogers in it. They had a gap of around one, one and a half, two minutes. We thought that it could be possible to go for the mountain jersey, but we were too weak for that. Chanceless. We tried it, but it wasn’t possible.
Already quite early a few riders got at the breakaway, so now we had a group of eleven riders. We had luck that Rogers won the intermediate sprints. He wasn’t able to do anything else.
But then, a rider of us standing near the road, waiting for us. Who’s it? What’s his problem? It was Luis Freire. We asked him what happened. He said that he fell and now his left hand is hurting. He wasn’t able to continue, so Freire abandoned. We’ll go with him to the hospital to see what’s wrong and if it’s a serious injury. More news about that is coming later. Meanwhile the peloton was at the last climb. Of course, the breakaway got caught and all our riders lost contact. Di Luca attacked for the stage win. Good tactic from Vini-Fantini, with Garzelli leading and Di Luca at the front.
Ulissi attacked and tried to catch Di Luca, and he did, but Di Luca won in the sprint. Garzelli wins the classification, Ulissi was only four seconds behind him. Di Luca ended third. Now I’m happy to go home, because my mood wasn’t good at all here. April has been finished, now we’re waiting for May.

The Rider: I'm happy that it's over. Yeah, there were a few falls of our team. Hopfully the injury of Freire turn out better than it looks like.

Injury Luis Freire
Immediately after the last stage of the Vuelta Asturias we went to the hospital with Luis Freire. He crashed during the race and his left hand really hurt. After we’ve waited a while we got bad news; Luis has broken his hand. This is really a shame for us, especially because Luis was the one who was in great shape. Luis was really disillusioned. ‘I was in great shape and it’s really sad this happened exactly now. But this is the bad part of cycling. I won’t use my bike the upcoming week, because I’ve totally lost my motivation. I hope it’ll come back.’ After we left the hospital I’ve spoken a long time with him about it. He’ll be out the circulation till end June. He will probably miss the Spanish national championships, and even if he’s restored before it, he won’t be in good shape at all. We try to keep him motivated to continue cycling. We hope he won’t retire, because he’s a great guy and he won’t be a bad cyclist at all.

sutty68: I hope so! He was in great shape at the moment, so the timing wasn't that good.

The race
It’s official now! In an hour it’ll be published. Our youth race is on the calendar of the U-23 competition. That’s great news for us. The last weeks went so fast. I called our sponsors and they thought that it’s a great idea to organise a race at the U-23 competition. They asked me to plan a route and so I did. I went to the United States and made a route. I've no idea were it is, but I don't care about that. It’s a very difficult race, especially for the young talents, but we really get a great winner. And of course, it’s not about winning this race. It’s also about showing yourself during that race. The race will be 154 kilometres and a lot of climbing and down hilling. The race will be ridden at the 28th of May. After I called our sponsors, they arranged everything to organise the race. They will pay all the costs, and eventually profits will go to our team! There’s already interest of some local TV channels to broadcast the race. It’s going great so far. And, for you fans, here’s the route of the race. And of course there will be a report about it. I hope you’re just as excited as I am!

sutty68: Yes, it's a difficult race. But it'll be a great race and I hope that the talents will 'enjoy' it.

Yeah a tough race, It will be interesting to see who turns up and if any one dominates and if Hotwheel's offers them a contract.
C'mon Mr UFO, I thought this would be up one hour ago! |

The Rider: Yes it'll be very interesting. Yeah, of course I mean that it'll be published to the newspaper and you as 'fams' receive the information earlier than the media do.
Miguel98: Nice to see a reply from you. Yes, it'll be very difficult. I hope so, but the timing for his injury was really bad.

After a decent month we’re now looking forward to the upcoming month. With the Amgen Tour of California we’ll ride our first home race, so we’re curious to see what we can do there. We hope to do good as well in the Tour de Picardie and we’ll try to achieve the sponsor goal at the Skoda-Tour of Luxemburg. We’re looking forward to the upcoming month.
