Europcar and Bontrager Livestrong Team are strong! 1-2 and 3-4, excellent.

It's too bad there isn't a real profile of Pla d'Adet in PCM 2012, because it's one of my favorite climbs!

Thanks all. Was indeed a bit surprising to stay there with both. Probably due to the fact that Kern did all the work and although he did it on quite a high pace it was probably still not fast enough after all the work he did to get a bigger selection and Rolland obviously was happy with following.
@Sutty: That`s the main goal. To defend the Youth jersey against Taaramae. And this should then also mean a podium in the end.
@bigggassi: Indeed Boswell is performing excellent at the moment. Different to most others he is peaking at the moment for this race.

Tour of Elk Grove


Prologue - Chicago (8,3km)

We just finished the third stage in the Pyrénées but before I start to report it in this blog I have to report you a great result from yesterdays prologue in the Tour of Elk Grove in America. The race contains this short prologue and two totally flat stages. Our sponsor wanted a stage win here and as we don`t have a sprinter we decided to bring Lawson here for the prologue.
After seeing the startlist with riders like Phinney, Rosseler, Sergent or Navardauskas we already thought that this goal could be impossible with all these World Tour riders.
But Craddock had a great day. Just like in the Nationals he performed on his highest and at the intermediate at 5,5km he was just 3s slower than Phinney but ahead of all the others.
And he improved in the end and beated Taylor Phinney by 1s and won the prologue and will be in the leader jersey tomorrow. What a great result for us.

Tour des Pyrénées - Vuelta a los Pirinéos


Stage 3 - Lannemezan - Boltaña (166,7km)

So back to this race, which is pretty successful for us after yesterdays stage. We finally enter Espana with another hard mountain stage.
For me this means another day of suffering. Also I might have to carry lots of bottles today taking care of my leaders.

A group of 5 in the breakaway. Except for Antunes who joined them after the first KoM they are not very dangerous. Antunes on the other hand is only 6'58 behind and a capable climber, who goes for the KoM jersey today.

Europcar is doing the early pace to defend Rolland`s lead. Sebastien Chavanel disappointed a bit on the first stage and has to work now.

Going up the 2nd Cat.1 mountain it`s Charlie Avis working on hte front thinning out the field. The breakaway alrady has an advance of a bit more than 10min and this is too dangerous for us.

This also means bigger trouble for me. I really suffer right now but try to come over the top.

I really made it today and was even able to bring some more bottles to the others on the descent.
But now on the Cat.3 climb it`s Kern again highering the pace.

Immediately I lose contact and fall back into one of the gruppettos. Also Avis has done enough and falls back soon after me.

48 riders start the climb onto the last mountain. Kern still doing the main work. Boswell and Parker are still protected in the first rows.

5,4km more to climb. Pierre Rolland is doing the pace now and many riders suffer now. Dale Parker is still in the first rows but Boswell was a bit bad placed and lost some spots and even had a gap. No the best situation.

But after a great effort he fought himself back into the first group. Just in time as the pace was highered another time.
Kern, Rolland, Taaramae, Moncoutie, Parker, Boswell, Camano, Zakarin are the 8 riders in the first group.

Coming over the top the group is even down to 5 with Camano, Zakarin and Moncoutie a bit behind together with Chernetski.
Great performance by our duo, who are still there defending their overall and in case of Parker even on the way to overtake Champion and Moncoutie.

After the descent the two first groups came together and the sprint starts. Boswell has a small gap to the others starting his sprint very early.

The gap became smaller and smaller and in the end Rolland was almost equal and also Taaramae came pretty close.

But it was Boswell winning another stage this season. Great effort after losing contact earlier today. He will keep his 2nd while Parker climbs onto the 4th overall due to his 2nd 4th place in a row. Great day for us once again. At the moment we have some kind of great success.

After falling back I joined a late gruppetto and finished more than 24min later. This was almost harder than yesterdays stage I think and I really suffered on the HC mountain in especially. Looking forward for tomorrows easier stage.

Victories all around :lol:

First with Craddock at Elk Grove Wink and then with Boswell in the Tour des Pyrenees Wink, which puts him in a great position on GC behind Rolland :lol:

Thanks all. Will be hard to get these seconds from Rolland as the last stage is not that hard. And in a flat sprint it will be hard to get bonus seconds.

Tour des Pyrénées - Vuelta a los Pirinéos


Stage 4 - Huesca - Zaragoza (137,4km)

Before coming to todays stage we have some more news from Chicago. The Elk Grove Tour is finished and unfortunately we weren`t able to defend the lead. RadioShack`s Nizzolo won both sprint stages and with the collected bonus seconds he overtook Craddock, who still finishes on a great 2nd overall. So congrats to America, where Stuyven also finished on a great 6th in the final stage.

But now back to Spain. We have some mountains today but none as hard as in the last two days. I was looking forward to this stage as this is the one that suits me the most. Not too easy and not too hard.
Also we will try to defend the podium with Boswell.

Everything worked perfect in the morning and so I find myself in a group of 8. Orozco Toro could become a small problem in this group as he is the best placed with 13min, while all others have more than 30min at least.

Team Europcar seems to be very happy with this group as they totally relax behind. Obviously they are quite afraid of losing the jersey due to the bonus seconds. Bad for Boswell, good for me.

Going up the Cat.1 the group starts to split. Unfortunately the others aren`t supporting me as much as I had hoped. So I make most work in this group. But as the peloton isn`t doing anything at all and the gap is at more than 12min with 50km to go I don`t go very fast as well.
Slowly Orozco becomes a really big danger.

28km and still 11'30 for the peloton. At least they don`t let it go higher and the gap is falling now. But the good news are that the group will have success and so I will get my first top10 this season.

Big shock for us then. Rolland with a very early attack still before the Cat.3 climb and 8 riders follow him with a small gap. As our focus was on the breakaway right now we totally missed this.

All riders including Boswell and Parker are doing the pace in the peloton, where the group splits totally. But within the next 15km we weren`t able to really gain time on them and the podium looks very questionable now.

Back to the group, where I decided to attack as two decent sprinters have been there as well. I used this tiny hill with 3-4km to go and created a small gap. I don`t have the best legs today but as already noticed on the climbs I was the strongest in this group nevertheless.

And it was exactly at the right moment. It became pretty close again but Jarrier stayed behind me. My first win this season. A great moment for me and the team. We have a lot of trust in ourselves at the moment and are all peaking right now as the home races Tour of Utah and USA Pro Cycling Challenge are within the next 2 weeks.

And it became even better for us. Thanks to the great team effort we were able to catch the group around several top 10 riders again. So Ian will keep his 2nd overall but Dale will fall two places back again but still on a great 6th.

Goodbye Pyrénées after some very interesting and successful days and welcome back America, where I will have 3 days off before going straight to Utah for my next race.
