Pirazzi really wants that valuable 11th place finish.

Flecha takes the decisive 11th - think they couldn't take anymore and wanted to be on the bus Grin

Edit - I spose perhaps just making sure Purito didn't get the odd point to decrease Cav's lead?

Staged sucked but I expected nothing more. Nice to see Flecha win a sprint Pfft

This.

Why would any GC guy attack on a stage like this? That only happens in PCM

So you are saying that even though it's a more or less flat finish all the favourites should exhaust themself attacking to gain 2 seconds just a couple of days before a tough mountain stage simply because it's in the third week?

Okay looking at tomorrow... how many people will come in together after a huge descent like that? 4 or 5? Basso and Pozzovivo could well lose time on the descent.

Basso is probably very, very nervous about tomorrow. He should be extremely happy if he finishes alongside the other favourites.

Think we might see a pretty big group, though I hope there will be some strong attacks from the top riders. We can always hope for something similar to the awesome Monte Grappa stage. Then again, that was in the 2010 Giro.

Kreuziger could attack on the downhill tommorow if he will be in the lead group over the top. He is not brilliant descender, but probably the one-eyed king between the blind there.

Boring stage today, but it was written all over it from the start. Frown
I'll be back

Substantial climb before the descent tomorrow (10km at nearly 10%) after 3 to soften up beforehand so I'm going to be optimistic and go for a small group of 5 or so contesting the stage, even with the long descent.

What do you think? Who win?
Tour De Pologne

Omega Pharma

SaxoBank

Tough call for tomorrow's stage. I see a group of 6-7 heading into the descent, wich is very tricky as seen on Team Sky Preview by Michael Barry.

If Ryder Hesjedal (yeah, I'm a fan...) is still up there with the big guns, I think he'll end up winning the stage; great descending skills and a good sprint from a small group.

I think that Basso will start a great show from tomorrow on. I expect early acceleration from Liquigas. When Szmyd has a good day he will ride them all off his wheelWink

Pellizotti2
I think I'll go for Scarponi tomorrow. Don't think anyone apart from maybe Basso has the capacity to drop him. Think we may see those two, as long as Basso survives the descent, and Rodriguez gaining time on the rest tomorrow. From what I've seen, those three looks to be a cut above the rest.

Don't believe in Kreuziger at all, as I think he has been pretty weak already. I'd happily be surprised by him though. Same goes for Gadret.

Hesjedal shouldn't lose much thanks to his great descending, although I'm quite sure he'll get dropped on the Giau.

EDIT:

@ kumazan - I meant like 4 or 5 riders. Sorry if it sounded like I meant a smaller peloton. Wink

Big group? Hell no H2O!

It's a very hard stage, the Giau always makes the difference, and people like Scarponi and Basso need to blow up the race on this stage.

I though you meant a ~10 riders group à la Cervinia, and that would suck. I think a strong enough rider can win solo, but I don't care that much about the size of the group, I rather care about how the stage is raced. Purito arrived "solo" to Pian dei Resinelli, but the stage itself was quite poor.

I don't believe in Basso for tomorrow. He wouldn't mind burning himself up the Giau just to get caught along the descent. Plus, his Overall position doesn't oblige him to do anything when there are still 2 summit-finishing stages.

Scarponi on the other hand needs to start moving his ass up the GC.

Again, I'm going to miss yet another nice looking stage... Sad

kumazan
Scarponi is just 14" behind Basso. I'd say they are pretty much equally obliged to start gaining time on Purito and Hesjedal.

Gustavovskiy
I had this impression, Scarponi was one of those helpless disastrous TTists unable to lose less than 2'00 - 2'30 in a 30km TT, but just checked some results and found out I was wrong, and that he actually usually defends himself pretty well in the last TT. So I have to agree with you kumazan.

However I still don't believe Basso will ignite the race tomorrow.

Also I'm pretty interested in seeing what Lampre will do. They've been using Cunego in almost every mountain stage for long breakaways, but that tactic has been pretty much useless. I wonder if they'll do the same tomorrow.
