I made a bet with my father, I said "Volderken" would be good.
I almost forgot that he is or very good or very bad, he was very bad today... I hoped for a top-10 for him.

I just have to post this:
62 PEREZ MORENO Ruben EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI 0:04:43
67 SIEBERG Marcel LOTTO BELISOL TEAM 0:04:43
Euskaltel beats a Belgian team in de Ronde. Must be cold in hell.

Hate myself for missing RVV thanks to a rather boring Top Gear Live. Oh well, at least Cancellara didn't win |

Just watched the Ronde. Good race and I was pleased to see Boonen beat the two Italians.
I missed the Muur van Geraardsbergen though I suspect Boonen probably didn't as I think Pozzatto and Ballan would have ridden away from him there if it was in. |

thought the race wasn't that great... it can be summed up easily
1) 15 riders ride away
2) Cancellara fell
3) vansummeren fell, causing a split
4) the group rejoins (but half of favorites there dead because they had to chase)
5) ballan rides away. Pozzato and Boonen close the gap
6) boonen wins the sprint
meh
rvv used to be a race with 80km of action. Now they all had to wait and falls even decided a great part of the race.
It's turning into an Amstel Gold Race with cobbles. (not good) |

Yep, this is nice summary, too bad crashes were so important again, mainly Vansummeren's costed some lot of energy. I agree Ronde used to be a lot more interesting and full of action, maybe it would be still without Cance crashing.
Happy to See Sagan so strong, he just needs to better the tactical side of racing and maybe think different in some situations. According to his words he lost tons of energy during the race because of mechanicals and others crashes, he had to close the gap to the peloton maybe three times, especially in the first half of the race.
Also great Boonen, he was the smartest and strongest on the flat once he hold with the better punchers Ballan and Pozzato. Nice to see Pozzato so active, he is my man for Roubaix, besides Boonen of course. Btw has anybody ever won all four major cobbled classics in one year?
P.S: I hate Boonen, as i beted all my remaining PCMs on Pozzato (i would make 346 from 40). Now i have nothing because of half-bike lenght

Your summary is too simple, people still have to have the energy to do something. I think we saw the worst Boonen all year until now, so he couldn't get the gap. Cancellara crashing out doesn't help things and the other guys were looking too much at each other. But it was exciting nonetheless as every hill shook things up, just not in a definite way.
And if Sagan wastes so much energy getting back to the pack he should look at Nuyens last year. If you get dropped, especially early on you have to let others do the work. Sagan may just have been a bit overeager, but that guy is so strong it will surely play out well for him sometime in the next years.
And no one ever won all 4 cobbled classics in one year. Gogo superbelgians.

Boonen claimed he had a mechanical when he almost dropped in the last cobbled mount. Not sure if it's true or if he was at the limit. |

1. All the riders look at each other.
2. All the riders were anxious to attack too early, so they waited and waited.
3. When a leading group was formed, not all members in it wanted to work, so other groups could come back.
4. Crashes created some splits.
5. Too bad for Cancellara, but that's cycling.
6. Not to bad for Langeveld, why do you have to race there? It wasn't the road, it was a cycling path, with fans standing on it. Absolutely not smart, to ride there with 70-80km/h, although I really hate that he had to abandon and is injured.
7. When the big 3 finally made their effort, they pretty easy rode away, not even by attacking.
8. The smartest guy won.
I liked the Ronde, but as in many other cycling races, the favourites wait as long as possible. But did that also occur with De Muur in it, with a group of at least 20-30 together before it, and only a few after it? Hopefully PR will bring the shift earlier, but I predict a sprint with a group of 5.

I know he crashed, i didn't know it looked that bad.
But the reason he crashed was trying to close a gap, so if he was good he wouldn't needed to close that gap.
@dienblad, I wouldn't say Boonen was the smartest, I think Pozzato was, he only made the mistake of trying to kill boonen in the sprint, he should have attacked.

After each attack by Ballan I had the feeling Pozzato would be next. We could be sure that Ballan wouldn't close the gap especially after attacking himself. But I guess headwind made a sprint inevitable.

Jorgensen from Saxo fell of his bike in front of him, and he had to stop completely on one of the climbs, losing quite some time.

You didn't pay enough attention: BOONEN SUCKS. If you look closely at the Vansummeren crash you can see Boonen push him. The Belgian TV is smart to enough to show Vansummeren faill in the replay, but the what happened before. For this I don't think Boonen deserved it.

Vansummeren is a pretty big guy, than you shouldn't let yourself be pushed away....
@sam1196: the smartest guy doesn't make a mistake

Actually no. There was a strong headwind in the last 13km and attacking was pointless and would never worked in that occasion. In sprint he had a chance like in 2009 at E3. The headwind made it almost impossible to attack.

I managed to dodge any cycling websites for the past couple of days, just so I could fully enjoy the race.
Great race by Boonen, Pozzato and Sagan, unlucky crash by Cancellara and a lot of guys just not wanting to commit themselves. Bring on the Roubaix! |
