It does clash with the Rugby, unfortunately

No he was the strongest in this race.
Horner and Kreuziger rode a really bad ITT tho, not even in the top 40. I mean if Poels can do a 22th place you'd expect better from those 2.
Horner has the excuse of having 0 racedays in 8 months. But Kreuziger... lost his TT skills? |

Looks like it, indeed. Especially considering he always performed better in short TTs/prologues, this one should have fitted him very well.

Might be me, but i think Kreuziger is turning more and more in a classic type of rider, maybe at the cost of his TT?

Regarding Kreuziger I don't claim to be an expert or to have watched him much before so maybe it's just his bizarre style (?) but every few pedal strokes he was repositioning, pushing himself back into the saddle.
I'm presuming something was very wrong somewhere whether it be bike, him or something I'm missing altogether... |

Kreuziger himself claimed it was a bad day
But I've searched up Kreuzigers TT results in the last 2 years
2010
9 Paris - Nice, Prologue : Montfort-l’Amaury I.T.T.
17 Volta a Catalunya, Stage 1 : Lloret de Mar I.T.T.
8 Tour de Romandie, Prologue: Porrentruy I.T.T.
2 Tour de Suisse, Stage 1 : Lugano I.T.T. (short ITT)
20 Tour de Suisse, Stage 9 : Liestal - Liestal I.T.T.
20 Tour de France, Prologue : Rotterdam (Ned) I.T.T.
82 Tour de France, Stage 19 : Bordeaux - Pauillac I.T.T.
73 Vuelta a España, Stage 17 : Peñafiel I.T.T.
2011
47 Paris - Nice, Stage 6 : Rognes - Aix-en-Provence I.T.T.
14 Giro del Trentino, Stage 1 : Riva del Garda - Arco I.T.T.
50 Tour de Romandie, Prologue : Martigny I.T.T.
16 Tour de Romandie, Stage 4 : Aubonne - Signal-de-Bougy I.T.T.
17 Giro d'Italia, Stage 1 : Venaria Reale - Torino T.T.T.
6 Giro d'Italia, Stage 16 : Belluno - Nevegal I.T.T. (mountain ITT)
16 Giro d'Italia, Stage 21 : Milano - Milano I.T.T.
99 Tour de France, Stage 20 : Grenoble - Grenoble I.T.T.
53 Tirreno - Adriatico, Stage 7 : San Benedetto del Tronto I.T.T.
His only good TT's have been in prologues and uphill ITT's. But they have been getting gradually worse the last 2 years. A top 20 results is about the maximum lately.
New bike from Astana not fitting him much? Or just not doing much ITT training whatsoever?
Lets compare to Gesink, according to this forum a horrible ITT-er
2010
15 Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Stage 6 : Orio - Orio I.T.T.
48 Tour de Suisse, Stage 1 : Lugano I.T.T.
40 Tour de Suisse, Stage 9 : Liestal - Liestal I.T.T.
56 Tour de France, Prologue : Rotterdam (Ned) I.T.T.
109 Tour de France, Stage 19 : Bordeaux - Pauillac I.T.T.
2011
1 Tour of Oman, Stage 5 : Bander Al Jissah I.T.T.
9 Tirreno - Adriatico, Stage 7 : San Benedetto del Tronto I.T.T. (same ITT as today btw)
7 Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Stage 6 : Zalla - Zalla I.T.T.
29 Critérium du Dauphiné, Prologue : Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne I.T.T.
23 Critérium du Dauphiné, Stage 3 : Grenoble - Grenoble I.T.T.
39 Tour de France, Stage 20 : Grenoble - Grenoble I.T.T. (same tt where kreuziger was 99th)
2012
19 Vuelta a Andalucia - Ruta del Sol, Prologue : San Fernando I.T.T.
6 Vuelta a la Region de Murcia, Stage 2 : Murcia I.T.T.
So...Kreuzigers ITT level in PCM terms would be low 70-ties... |

Well, I think it was a bad day for him today. He is usually a little bit better in TTs.
Anyway, I am saying that he isn't as good TTer maybe for that 2 years, Ruben. Kreuziger is highly overrated as TTer by many people, so I think you are almost completly right.
Anyway, I think it's needed to be said he was injured in last year's TdF after his crash in the first week of that race where he had broken his arm. Still, he is definetely quite inconsistent rider, time trials included.

He was a good ITT-er before though Roman. I mean in 2009 and especially 2008 his TT results were good.
But now he's even not good anymore in short ITT's and prologues unless they have many corners. That would suggest he lacks power, but that's not logical because he climbs good. So his w/kg is good.
This suggests his aerodynamic position is bad. Or has been deteriorating since 2009 |

For me it seems he is going the way from comlete stage-racer to a more climbing type maybe. Also dont forget he had 2 race days prior to Tirreno. According to his words it was bad right from the start yesterday, he was not able to find a good position on the bike and the legs were somewhat solid. Overall this is a good result given the fact it was the first stage race of the year, if nothing bad happens, he should be attacking the podium in May, Giro is not about TT's in the end.
Nibbles is the deserved winner, he was fantastic throughout the race, also good teammates on his side.
About MSR i am looking forward to it a lot, Liqui willl have great options with Nibali and Sagan (i hope i am not a heretic again calling him a favourite). They will certainly hope for a very high pace to drop the sprinters
