I don't get it, Isso. Could you explain it? Last year's Vuelta was a mess because of the northern weather, but I can't find why racing at Netherlands caused today's chaotic stage.

You dont?..most of crashes today was caused by..road furniture

The biggest crash that led to all those gaps to the favourites happened on a straight good road without any furniture there.

One of the worst stages i`ve seen in the last years. Just crashes every 5 kilometres. Sastre and Wiggins in a second group because of this and a strange sprint because of a sharp corner 500m before the finish.

Ah, my comentator was saying Griepel, that would explain the lack of speed.

Just look at the big picture

Well I guess it was not boring.

Disappointed for Wiggins but congrats to Farrar and Garmin they were well organised. Not sure Griepal was on top form to be fair, Petacchi wasn't in the right place.

Well done Sabatini Smile Your my guy I will support as sprinting underdog. Watched him in the finale ducking and diving all over the place.

Greipel was 4th. He was in wrong position in the 500m corner. Goss was pulled by Henderson and got Farrar`s wheel.

jack888
horrible stage.

A bad day for my fantasy teams too, but 3 Australian riders in the top 10 and Cadel in pink will do it for me Grin

Bookwalter lost 37 secs Sad

Petacchi was somewhere near the front with 1k to go, but ended up in 10th position at the last bend.

Besides Sastre and Wiggins, others who lost 37 seconds were Mollema, Caruso, Moreno, Arroyo, UrĂ¡n, Dan Martin, Tondo, Cunego

Giro flat stages are always chaotic. Congrats to Farrar and Evans.

Tomorrow could get very windy. I'm looking forward to it, because they will pass Leiden, which is 2 km from my home town.

Flat, fast, windy... sounds like another stage with huge of crashes. Hopefully everything will be without bigger injuries.

Does anybody say what Kohler had? Anything broken?

giro falls always happen, just look at previous editions, dont blame road furniture

the biggest crash and decisive crash happened on a straight piece of road with no obstacles whatsoever

giro pelotons are always this way

Guido Mukk
and I keep saying..
Before the big crash..there was several (a lot)crashes caused by road furniture..

Every time they entered some corner..feeling was ..ou my good they will crash now again. I never had such feeling before watching a cycling race..

So what? There were big crashes due to road furniture in Omloop, Kuurne, E3 Prijs, Flanders etc as well, you dont hear those complains.
Or what about Roubaix, a few cobbles and they all fall.
It's a part of cycling.

And in the Giro there are always many falls in flat stages, just rewatch the previous editions. In Italy you have many oil on the road, that is even worse than road furniture, riders slipping all the time.

Or what about mountain stages? You have dangerous downhills with riders falling all the time.

Just wake up and stop complaining, its a part of cycling

It was a messy stage, but it is unfair to blame it entirely on Holland's roads. It is the Giro organization who selected those narrow roads, and I'm sure there are decent roads in the Netherlands to make a transitional GT stage.

This said, I prefer GT to not move away of their home countries. I mean, the Giro entering Austria to make some climbs is okay, but going to the Netherlands (or the USA!) it's too much.

limiting it to neighbouring countries I think is fine.
Even the tour to Britian isn't much problem now as our links to the continent are very good.
But i agree, try keeping GT's to home countries.

I totally agree. Netherland is already a bit too far, Austria or France Alps on one point are still ok. But Washington?WTF. Maybe it`s kind of a spectacular place to ride, but you have to think about the cyclists. They would need a rest day before stage 3, without being able to rest. Just sitting in a plane . After that there are 18 hard stages and some of them will feel really tired after 3 days. That can`t be the sense of cycling.
