Stage 4

Before the 4 mountain stages, the GC will be shaken up in the 49 kilometre ITT. The route features 380 height metres (in 1 climb) with th emost of it being flat.
img803.imageshack.us/img803/2961/stage4.jpg

The first rider to set a time that will be good enough to get in the top 10 at the end of the day, is Saur - Sojasun's Spaniard Jonathan Castroviejo. He is 30 seconds faster than the best time at that moment by Rasmus Quaade and needs 1h10'59 for the 49 kilometres.
img812.imageshack.us/img812/991/2castroviejo.jpg

The time set by Castroviejo is surprisingly broken by Garmin's Christophe Riblon. The French, surely not a known time trialist, is 8 seconds faster ans can take place in the hot seat now.
img804.imageshack.us/img804/4965/3riblon.jpg

Our Aussie Jack Bobridge does a great job, setting the 3rd time at the moment (and the 11th of the day), '13 slower than Riblon.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/3146/4bobridge.jpg

New best time! Thomas Dekker rides a great TT, 29 seconds faster than Riblon. Although having some trouble in the last sector, he is able to keep the margin he build up in the first 2 sectors. Time to beat: 1h10'22.
img14.imageshack.us/img14/1339/5dekker.jpg

Christophe Kern has the home advantage and rides the TT of his life. Nevertheless, it's not enough to beat the fastest time by Dekker, but the 1h10'39 is still the 2nd time far.
img849.imageshack.us/img849/5015/6kern.jpg

Also Estonian Rein Taaramäe is slower than Dekker, and with a time of 1h10'34 he becomes the new current number 2.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/7331/7taarame.jpg

Thomas De Gendt, GC´s number 5, is having a tough days with a daily form of -5. But still he manages to set the 3rd time so far, only '17 behind his Dutch team mate.
img213.imageshack.us/img213/6530/8degendt.jpg

Former TT-World Champ Michael Rogers rides a disappointing TT, and wil finish in 10th place today. He is 41 seconds slower than Dekker!
img338.imageshack.us/img338/3160/9rogers.jpg

Times at 1st split:
1. T. Dekker 24'12; 2. R. Gesink + 0; 3. B. Wiggins + 15; 4. EB Hagen + 27; 5. C. Riblon + 34.

The favourite to win today is British Bradley Wiggins. After a disappointing 2012 season, with no wins, he switched from Team Sky to Radio Shack and is looking for revenge. He wants his first win of the season today and is 18 seconds faster than Dekker at the 2nd split time.
img854.imageshack.us/img854/8538/10wiggins.jpg

Lotto's Edvald Boasson Hagen is doing a great job at the 2nd split time, but loosing ground to Wiggo. The Norwegian is '22 behind the Brit.
img444.imageshack.us/img444/9144/11ebh.jpg

Times at 2nd split:
1. B. Wiggins 43'24; 2. T. Dekker + 18; 3. EB. Hagen + 22; 4. C. Kern + 46; 5. R. Taaramäe + 47.

GC-leader Robert Gesink has a good start of the time trial, with the 2nd time at the first split, but looses ground in the 2nd sector, being '49 slower than Wiggins in 7th place. But the Dutch manages to gain a few places and finishes in 3rd overall, '56 behind Wiggins.

Word from the DS
3 riders in the top 6 today, we're very happy with that! It looks like the GC will be a battle between Wiggins and Gesink. And with 2 mtf (Risoul and Alpe d'Huez), the gap of 48 seconds should be doable for Gesink!

Miguel98
Even in PCM Wiggins does it. Great ride by the Monster boys.

TomC
Gesink should be much better in mountains! Good luck Wink

Ian Butler
I just love Dauphinée, possibly my favorite stage race, and you do it justice Wink
(I'm on holiday for 3 weeks starting tomorrow but will catch up later!)

dienblad
@ Miguel98: With no Froome to help him climbing, he will have some problems in the mountains Wink

@ TomC: Yes, he should be, but can he do it?

@ Ian Butler: enjoy your holiday!

Oh man! Followed this story 24/7 since the start of it and the three first month at least. Then did my computer crash and I didn't check this site for some months. But it great to see that this story still is alive. The best story on pcmdaily for sure!Wink
I'll have to read the 100+ pages I've been missing!

Stage 5

In the 5th stage of the Dauphiné, we start climbing. The first 200 kilometres are flat and slightly uphill, but the last 15km are the most difficult ones. They're uphill with an average gradient of 6.1% and at an altitude of 1850 metres, the riders arrive at the Risoul station.
img151.imageshack.us/img151/9125/stage5p.jpg

16km to go
The report starts when the BOTD arrives at the foot of the final climb to Risoul. A group of 12 riders, with Tom Jelte Slagter (Rabobank), Remi Pauriol (FDJ) and Sébastien Minard (Garmin) as the most known names in it, has taken a maximum lead of 9 minutes, but thanks to the hard work by our and Radio Shacks domestiques, only 5 minutes remain at the foot of the climb.
img560.imageshack.us/img560/994/116km.jpg

7km to go
The margin of the BOTD to the peloton decreases rapidly, especially when we decide to increase the pace. With 7km to go, when the margin is brought back to 1'30, Robert Gesink creates a gap to the rest of the first peloton, helped by Thomas Dekker.
img526.imageshack.us/img526/5923/27km.jpg

5km to go
Dekker helps his leader untill his legs explode. But because of it, Gesink is more than 30 seconds in front of the group of favourites, and has joined the remaining breakawayd.
img232.imageshack.us/img232/553/35kmn.jpg

4km to go
With gesink riding 40 seconds in front of the group of favourites, Michael Rogers decides it's time to counterattack. Sébastien Minard is still in between. De Gendt & Dekker are still in the group of favourites.
img542.imageshack.us/img542/824/44km.jpg

2km to go
There are absolutely no problems for the Dutch to maintain his lead. Rogers couldn't maintain his attack, and has been passed by Christophe Kern and Bradley Wiggins, who is desperately trying to hang on to Kern...
img833.imageshack.us/img833/6779/52km.jpg

Finish
But for sure, Robert Gesink is the strongest today at the slopes of Risoul. He even enlarges his lead in the last 2 kilometres and for sure becomes the new GC-leader.
img838.imageshack.us/img838/9066/6finish.jpg

Kern finishes in 2nd at 1'10 and a group with Robert Kiserlovski, Przemyslaw Niemiec, Cyril Gautier and Thomas De Gendt in 6th place follows at 1'34. Wiggo looses 16 more seconds and thus also the yellow jersey to Robert Gesink.

Word from the DS
It was no surprise that the best climber in this field won the stage, in a field without the top climbers. Nevertheless, you still have to do it, and Gesink did it. Great job!

Oh man! Followed this story 24/7 since the start of it and the three first month at least. Then did my computer crash and I didn't check this site for some months. But it great to see that this story still is alive. The best story on pcmdaily for sure!Wink
I'll have to read the 100+ pages I've been missing!

Thanks alot!! Really appreciate it. I don't think that it is the best (well, the better stories (Valverde's Veilleux, Cunego's Nerz, Pellizotti's Skil, tsmoha's Garmin and of course the Dark Dog) have stopped running). Goo dluck with reading everything!

Stage 6

And for the 2nd time in this Critérium du Dauphinée, the planned stage won't go on. The stage should be like this:
img715.imageshack.us/img715/4582/stage6.jpg

But because of snow at the Col du Lautaret and a closed Chamrousse due to striking goats who want more grass, the stage is cancelled and instead the riders ride stage 7 twice. In this stage, the Col du Glandon (21.3km at 6.9%) awaits, as the finish at the Alpe d'Huez (13.2km at 8.1%).
img4.imageshack.us/img4/3697/stage7.gif

47km to go
In contrary to most stages, the BOTD is rather small today. Only 5 riders dare to go on an adventure, that will probably brings them nothing. Luke Rowe (Qantas) does most of the leading work at the slopes of the Col du Glandonand crosses the summit as the first one, followed by Rigoberto Uran (Sky), Jan Bakelants (Lotto), Christophe Riblon (Garmin) and Hubert Dupont (AG2R).
As we see all 5 as strong climbers, we decide not to let them take many minutes, so with a high pace done by Marc De Maar, the peloton follows at 1'35. Only 39 riders are able to stay in this first peloton!
img534.imageshack.us/img534/8316/147km.jpg

11km to go
Already at the foot of the famous Alpe d'Huez, the first peloton is about to catch the 5 leaders. Welsh Luke Rowe has the best legs in the leading group and attacks once more.
img545.imageshack.us/img545/2581/211km.jpg

6km to go
Rowe does an amazing job, and with 6km to go, he is still in the lead. GC-leader Robert Gesink sees this as the time to increase the pace, and nobody is able to follow him. Only Przemyslaw Niemiec from Saur-Sojasun tries to follow him, but ha sto look deeply in his reserve tank to do so.
img826.imageshack.us/img826/1703/36km.jpg

5km to go
Gesink and Niemiec close the gap to Rowe and the 3 leaders have already got a margin of 44 seconds to the chasing group. Finding a 2nd breath, Bradley Wiggins tries to counterattack, being followed by Robert Kiserlovski and Christophe Kern.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/3707/45km.jpg

3km to go
But just as yesterday, Gesink is a league of his own. He has dropped the 2 and is leading with 3km to go. Rowe follows at '20, Kiserlovski and Gautier at '51, a group with Trofimov, Kern, Wiggins, Taaramäe, Niemiec, Pires and Sicard at 1'32 and Rogers and a struggling Thomas De Gendt at 1'32.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/6559/53kmn.jpg

Finish
It's the 2nd stage win in a row for Robert Gesink, almost securing himself of the GC-win. He has even enlarged his lead, as Kiserlovski follows at 1'22. Luke Rowe, who did a fantastic stage, finishes in 3rd. Christophe Kern looses 1'41 and WIggo more than 2 minutes. De Gendt finishes at 2'55, dropping 1 place in the GC.

Stage 7

The penultimate stage is the same stage as yesterday, so again 143 kilometres over the Glandon and finish at Alpe d'Huez.
img4.imageshack.us/img4/3697/stage7.gif

A short report this time. We make sure that the first peloton starts the final climb to Alpe d'Huez at the same time and this time, we let Robert Gesink ride up the mountain at a high pace, trying to crack the opponents. Because of a negative daily form (-2) and a good Robert Kiserlovski he doesn't finish solo, but with the Croatian. Nevertheless, the Dutchy takes win number 4 this Dauphiné. Th eother loose more than 1 minute. Unfortunately, Thomas De Gendt couldn't follow the pace and looses almost 3 minutes, what makes him drop to 7th in the GC.
