Stage 4

img341.imageshack.us/img341/9167/14etappe4.jpg

The 4th stage brings the riders from Eschweiler to Roost. SOme hill sin the first part, what flatter in the last part.
The stage goes to a breakaway and the win goes surprisingly to Sony - Ericsson. Their domestique Nico Keinath wins the sprint of a group of 9, beating Frantisel Rabon and George Hincapie. The peloton finishes at 6 minutes, no time gaps among the GC-contenders.

Stage 5

img15.imageshack.us/img15/7260/17etappe5.jpg

Again, the win goes to a breakaway. The 9 riders profit from a crash in the peloton with just 6 km to go and stay out of it's reach. Good old Fred Rodriguez gives Garmin the stage win, after beating Martin Kohler and John Degenkolb in the sprint.
The reason the crash occurred is that Sky-domestique Holohan got stressed, when both Rosseler and Posthuma attacked at a small hill before a corner. Holohan crashed in a corner and with him the numbers 2 and 3, Andrew Talansky and Tony Gallopin, crash. Löfkvist wins the GC, in front of Stijn Devolder and Sandy Casar. Joost Posthuma misses the podium by 1 second... (as no time gaps were given between him and the first part of the peloton, although finishing more than 100 metres in front of it)

It's not sure if the Critérium du Dauphiné is the second most important French stage race (most important is of course Le Tour), or the third (Paris-Nice), but the stage race in the South-East of France is the most important preparation-race for the Tour de France. This year, it's already the 65th edition, and it has some great names on the palmares, as Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain, Lance Armstrong and, last year, Alberto COntador. For Contador, it was the last race he won before the suspension because of the Clenbuterol-saga.

The route

img189.imageshack.us/img189/9849/5route.jpg

The Dauphiné is always a perfect mix of time trialling, hilly stages and mountain stages in the Alps. So is this year. It kicks off with a 6.4km hilly prologue in the streets of Evian-Les-Bains. Stage 2 takes the riders to Saint-Laurent-Du-Pont, with a punchy final. The 3rd stage to Bourg-Saint-Andéol features some difficult hills that wil probably prevent a mass sprint. The first half of the Dauphiné ends with a 49km ITT form Montreux to Sorgues.

img94.imageshack.us/img94/4325/stage3fd.jpg
img803.imageshack.us/img803/2961/stage4.jpg

The 2nd half of the Dauphiné features many climbing kilometres. Stage 5 starts pretty easy, but finishes at the summit of the Risoul, a 14km climb with an average gradient of 6.1%. In the 6th stage, the riders will ride at an altitude of more than 2000 metres above sea level. The 143km tage between Serre-Chevalier to Grenoble features the Col du Lautaret (2nd cat, 2058m) and the Chamrousse, hors cat, 1750m, 19km at 6.5%)
Stage 7 is the queen's stage, with first the Col du Glandon (1st cat, 1924m, 21.3km at 6.9%) and the finish at the Alpe d'Huez (Hors cat, 1850m, 13.2km at 8.1%). In the final stage towards Sallanches, the Cote de Domanchy (2.5km at 8.6%) has to be climbed 5 times.

Stage 1

The Critérium du Dauphiné 2013 kicks off with a hilly 6.4km prologue in the streets of Evian-Les-Bains. 207 height metres await the riders, and the climb has a maximum gradient of 9.5%. Not a normal prologue!
img341.imageshack.us/img341/6260/stage1c.jpg

Former TT-world champion Michael Rogers from Team Sky is the first rider set a time that can suit for the win. He needs 10'17 for the 6.4 kilometres.
img27.imageshack.us/img27/1778/1rogers.jpg

Thomas De Gendt rides a very strong prologue, but misses the best time so far by only 1 second! 2nd time so far.
img835.imageshack.us/img835/1640/2degendt.jpg

One of the favourites to win the prologue is Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen. But apparantly the route is too hilly for Hagen, who sets the 3rd time so far, '5 behind Michael Rogers.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/120/3ebh.jpg

Estonian Rein Taaramäe from the Sony Ericsson-team, is one of the favourites to finish in the GC-Top 3. He has a very good start of the Dauphiné, with the 4th time so far, '5 behind Rogers.
img526.imageshack.us/img526/2737/4taarame.jpg

Probably the biggest favourite for the win today is Radio Shacks Bradley Wiggins. Although the Brit isn't in his best form yet, he can take place in the hot seat after setting a new best time of 10'16, only '1 faster than Rogers.
img534.imageshack.us/img534/9939/5wiggins.jpg

The last rider to start is the Giro runner-up Robert Gesink. Our Dutch stage race has been able to keep his great form from the last Giro-week and crushes the time of Wiggo. Gesink wins the prologue with a time of 10'08!

Word from the DS
A perfect start form the Dauphiné. We really didn't expect Gesink to win, and for sure not by this margin!

Stage 2

The 2nd stage brings the riders from Evian-les-Bains to Saint-Laurent-Du-Pont over 191 kilometres. The route is pretty undulating and 6km before the finish is the summit of a climb of the 3rd category.
img809.imageshack.us/img809/5213/stage2ba.jpg

Well, nice preview, but there isn't a race. Immediately after the start, all the French riders go in front of the peloton and they start to strike. Apparently, the ASO refused to give their teams (all with a wildcard) good hotels, and they have to sleep in Formula 1-hotels (those who have been to France know what I mean Wink ). Also the food is terrible, according to the teams, as they have to eat baguettes all day....
It takes a few hours, and negociations with former president Nicolas Sarkozy (to be honest, all riders wanted to go on the photo with his wife Carla Bruni:
Spoiler
img12.imageshack.us/img12/277/carlabrunig.jpg
).
The strike took so long, the organisation decides to call off the 2nd stage.

img837.imageshack.us/img837/4134/tumblrlmyamu0xgm1qa5ljo.jpg

Spoiler
The real reason: somehow, this stage was corrupted. there was no profile of it, and the game simply skipped the stage..... I didn't feel like putting much effort in repairing it (changing it with a different stage), so no stage 2. And I've got a feeling, stage 6 will face a problem as well....

Stage 3

After yesterday's disaster (yes, we will hunt you down, French teams!), stage 3 will go on. The route between Annonay and Bourg-Saint-Andéol is hilly, although the last 40 km are pretty flat.
img809.imageshack.us/img809/5213/stage2ba.jpg

69km to go
A BOTD of 12 is formed, with Radio Shacks Egor Silin as the best climber. He arrives as first at the KOTM-sprint 69km before the finish and is closely followed by Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (Sky), Gavin Mannion (Sony Ericsson), Sébastien Turgot (Europcar), Stuart Downing (Qantas) and Firsanov (Katusha). The peloton (only 72 riders) follows at 2'50.
img407.imageshack.us/img407/2720/169km.jpg

50km to go
Silin has dropped his brakaway-companions in the ascend of the Col du Benas, and arrives at the summit with a margin of over 2 minutes. The peloton is even more behind, 3'50. Only 42 riders are present in the first peloton, as the climbs have proven to be to difficult to the bigger part of the startlist.
img109.imageshack.us/img109/3017/250km.jpg

Finish
Egor Silin has no problems in keeping his margins and cruises to the stage win. It's his first win for Radio Shack after his transfer from Katusha in the winter of '11-'12.

Given the same time, EB Hagen wins the sprint of the peloton. Theo Bos is the best rider from our team, finishing in 7th.
