Menchov will do the Giro and the Tour, as he is one of those rare riders (like Heras) who only manages to ride at his level if it's his second GT of the season.
That's the only way for him to be in top form at the Tour.
I'm expecting Basso, Contador and Valverde at the Vuelta. Possibly Sánchez and Antón.
As for "Contador vs. Basso", well, Contador is profiting from the main men of these generations being retired or suspended. He's not at the level of the top riders of the majority of generations, and I really can't see him challenging Basso at all.

At the Vuelta presentation, out of Contador, Sastre, and Sanchez only Sanchez said that he will be there 100% |

Valverde will be there. He'll skip the classics for once to concentrate on the Tour. After missing the final win, he'll go for whatever he can at the Vuelta.
Trust me, either he'll be injured or he'll go for it.

That depresses me and upsets me more than I have reason to explain why. He strikes me as a manager/owner who actually cared for his riders whereas most managers/owners seem aloof and distant from their team, only caring about what they get out of it.
I hope he does come back soon like he mentioned he might, and I hope Ignatiev, Kiryienka, Petrov, and Brutt all go back to him.

Yeah, there are people like that. People who care about themselves and their prestige, and not about what the community gets out of their work.
The cycling community is a heck of a lot like the PCM community.
Well what do you know

Well what do you know
And there are a lot of selfish people out there in the world that are jealous of what others are trying to achieve for themselves, and want to hold them back from going out there and trying something new. Well, what do you know, the PCM Community is just like real life.

Indeed. I'm jealous of people who release graphics packs for a video game. Oh dear, you've rumbled me

New? Of course. And futuristic and revolutionary while we're at it

I think based on those above statements you aren't even aware of what is going on, so until you learn, I'm not even going to bother wasting time talking about this with you.
I just love how you bent my words about Oleg Tinkov leaving the sport (a bad thing) against something that had no relevance to the topic.

Apparently the definition of "irony" escapes you.

Basso 2005-2006 is way way stronger than Contador 2007-2008, but what do we know of Basso and Contador 2009 ? Not much yet.
You know as well as me, and despite what sceptical mind might say, why they are or were so strong. With new rules and tests, they may not use the same things any more, so they may have different levels from their best seasons so far.
What is sure is that both are amongst the strongest of their generations, so their potential difference mustn't be 20 or 30 relative Watts (differences between what both of them achieved at their best), rather 5 or 10. |

Oh I agree fully. But I don't see Basso losing without injury, a lot of bad luck, or similar.

Just been reading what Basso has been saying about the Giro route - and it sounds as if he's trying to talk Di Luca up for it.
If it wasn't for the 60k TT it'd be a good route for the Killer, I think. |
