Rather exciting race. Duarte was crazy. Disposed his energy very well on the stage. He deserved the win today - and it was a lot of fun seeing Ponti's reaction |

I'm still waiting for a random portuguese guy to go "ZOMG IF YOU DONT COUNT THE BREAK RUI COSTA WON"
Go p3druh, you know you want to.....
Seriously though, awesome for someone who had no team support. The kid's extremely talented

You're confusing me with some other random portuguese guy. If anything Costa was an idiot for not attacking earlier (like when Bakelandts, Dan Martin, etc. attacked).
Like some idiot said:
Duarte crossed the finish line before anyone else so he deserved to win.
Rui Costa made an excellent race, and his last lap was tremendous. He's got the talent, now he just needs to find a proper team.

On a Danish note, the tactics were just miserable. First of all, no man in the huge morning break of which 6 from top 10 was in, that was just a complete failure. Second of all, to only get Rasmus Guldhammer with the next break of favourites, that was just another huge failure as Niki Østergaard had a great day, he told. And what was Guldhammer doing, pulling all the time instead of either getting some help from the other riders or riding away with some of those who actually wanted to catch the front group. Guldhammer was very strong today but after working his mind up his bottom, he missed the Costa-Ponzi-Silin-group.
Denmark always shines with some of the U23 RR's shittiest tactics.
Never.

The reason they do is because they are not allowed radios so that they have to do their own decisions, Italians do well without them. They were just unlucky that Duarte stole the win in front of their nose. |

Just watched the highlights. I have to say that was a brilliant. He did lots of work, and made a great move in the final KM. Swift went a bit too early, but i think he will learn from that. Rui Costa, wow he got across and i was so hoping that he was going to win. But it was going to be. Anyway it was a good race. |

Just learnt that Duarte was caught positive with testosterone in July 2007 and that his federation which was supposed to sentence a ban last July (2008 then) remained conveniently silent... Cycling renewal is on the run... B)
Also Duarte thanked VC La Pomme-Marseille (main club from Marseilles in France), which took him as a stagiaire the last couple of months. They officially denied he was a stagiaire there but he still thanked them for that (they made him ride in Italy instead it seems), he wasn't allowed to be a stagiaire in an amateur team as he already has a licence with a pro team (Columbia ès Passion).
Sounds like a controversial dude...
