Tour de Suisse - Stage 9

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/46-9pro.jpg

A relatively flat sprint stage to end the tour. Unless another big crash like stage 7 occurs, we'll have to be content with 5th in the GC. Maybe our sprinters can do something at the end.

And not only did they do something... Ciolek managed to notch a powerful win! He was feeling great all day and he would not be caught after he left Cavendish's wheel at 1.5 km to go.

A huge suprise in that Tony Martin was able to take home the title here. Tony is in very good form preparing for the Tour de France, but this finish was beyond our wildest dreams.

It's all about the hot hand.

Cav and Ciolek will both be there... whoever has better morale will be led out by whoever has worse between the two. If he doesn't get wins it's nobodies fault but his.

Well, the course is very hilly and Reynes isn't anywhere close to form. He gave it a go though, but just didn't have the legs.

In the end, Contador just had too much power for the rest of the field, winning solidly.

It's all about the hot hand.

Cav and Ciolek will both be there... whoever has better morale will be led out by whoever has worse between the two. If he doesn't get wins it's nobodies fault but his.

i'll be watching you:lol:

While Ulissi is better in the mountains, on a rough course like this we felt like Pinotti would have a better shot. We only had three riders and they did what they could, but nobody would stop Di Luca today.

Monthly Wrap-Up: June

It's been a solid month, but not spectacular. We did well in the Dauphine Libre, with three stage wins and 3rd and 4th in the overall with Ulissi and Kirchen. We won a stage in the Tour de Suisse as well, Marcus Burghardt won the Philadelphia Intl. Championships and Edvald Boassen Hagen won the REading classic.

We had two national time trial champions as well... Marco Pinotti in the Italian race and Tony Martin in Germany.

Now it's time to focus on the Tour de France. All of our riders who aren't in the Tour will be taking a nice vacation paid for by the team to Luxembourg for 10 days... with the exception of Bradley Wiggins who is really working hard to get back into form after his broken collarbone earlier this year. All the coaches energy is going to be focused on France.

Tour de France - Stage 1

Well, this is the big one. Our sponsors expect a stage win from us and a top 5 finish, and we've sent a strong squad with a nice mix of experience and youth. It will be tough as there are a lot of strong riders here. In the sprints we have Friere, Zabel, Boonen, Hushovd, Haussler, Pettachi and McEwen all taking part. In the GC you have to look for Contador, Leipheimer, Kloden, Evans, Popovych, Horner, Gesink, Moreau, A. Schleck, Menchov, Dekker, Pereirro, Ricco and Nibali. A VERY strong field... as expected.

Our Team:
-Leader: Kim Kirchen - He's pretty much our only shot at a top 5. He's going to need to get some extra time on the climbs... both hills and mountains... as his time trialing is a bit suspect.
-Free: George Hincapie - George is out for stage wins... but will help out Kirchen and Sprinters when not on his own.
-Sprinter: Mark Cavendish and Gerald Ciolek - These two will jointly be contesting the sprints. We haven't named a clear #1 sprinter... we'll decide each day who will lead out who.
-Climbing Teammates: Thomas Lovkvist and Morris Possoni - these two guys will be watching out for Kirchen on the climbs.
-Helpers: Tony Martin, Taylor Phinney, and Michael Barry.

No prologue this year, stage 1 is classified as a sprint stage even though the hills at the end aren't totally insignificant.

We let the break go and didn't try to get anyone in it. We aren't really going to worry about the mountain jersey this year, though if an opportunity presents itself we'll try to take it.

We protected Ciolek and Cav and kept near the front. This turned out to be a good idea as a crash took out many riders as the chase picked up.

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-1a.jpg

Some of those who went down included Andreas Kloden, Levi Leipheimer, Roman Kreuziger, Fabian Cancellera, Chris Horner, Sammy Sanchez, Vincenzo Nibali, and Leonardo Piepolli. They all finished three and a half minutes or more back... which could strongly influence the race.

Cavendish really struggled over the small hills. Ciolek had some issues as well, but was able to stay near the front for the sprint. It was a disorganized scrum of a finish, and Friere came out on top. He's our first yellow jersey wearer!

Tour de France - Stage 2

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-2pro.jpg

Another sprint stage with a bumpy finish. Hopefully Cav and Ciolek will be able to handle it a little better.

We had issues with a mass crash again today, and several favorites went down as the pace increased.

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-2a.jpg

Thomas Dekker and Carlos Sastre were two of the bigger names caught in the pile up. Yet again, High Road escaped without harm. In addition, some of the big names who crashed yesterday struggled today and lost more time. It looks like a few riders may have lost the race already.

At the finish, High Road was in better position and was able to contest the sprint. Friere won again, and Cavendish took 6th, but was very close to a podium.

Kirchen rode Cav's wheel to a nice result. Kim's picking up some points here... he might be able to win the green jersey in this race in the hilly and mountain stages if he plays his cards right.

Tour de France - Stage 3

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-3pro.jpg

Okay... this looks more like our kind of stage. We'll be totally focues on our sprinters here.

We let the other teams pull back the break, then began to set our team up for the sprints. Hincapie moved to the front and we began our train. Ciolek was next, then Cavendish.

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-3a.jpg

Hincapie pulled off and Ciolek shot ahead... we were looking pretty good and Cav was feeling strong today.

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-3b.jpg

Inside of 1km, Cavendish makes his move... he shoots past... then McEwen tries to get bye... can he hold on?

CAVENDISH!!!!!

i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff235/gumbyman21/tour-3d.jpg

The youngster just noses out Robby McEwen to take his first ever Tour win... and fufill a sponsor goal for the race. Not only that, Gerald Ciolek takes third giving High Road two podium spots.

Pass around the bubbly boys... a great day for the team!

My goodness... you're right!

And here I've been thinking top 5 the whole time. That will make it easier.

I only know because I am happy I only needed a Top 10, I figure Rogers can pull that out, with his TT skills

Rogers isn't doing the Tour for him, but I think you can do it with Kirchen.

Good LuckGrin
