I don't think that was an attack. there was no acceleration. he just took a strong relay to tire the others and thus prepare a future attack.

Maybe, i also thought it looked weird that he didn't even stand up on the bike.

He's a time-trialler, he just tried to time-trial off the front. But I agree, I think he was preparing for a future attack
