A.Louveille (2017) | Tour de France (Rest Day #01)

Arthur has had some good top ten placings lately, the win cannot be far away Wink

Not the best day for Anthony, but Arthur did a great ride Grin

@sutty68: Arthur is becoming a good puncher, I think that next year there might have a win in one of those three races Grin

@welker3257: I was a fool thinking I was strong enough to follow Rui Costa, I've learned the lesson and now I will not make silly mistakes like that (I hope) Grin

Spoiler
Before starting, I can assure you that I've check the difficulty twice and I'm still playing on Extrem Cool

Pre-Race:

We brought a very strong squad here and we ca afford nothing but the victory with Arnaud in the Sprint and whoever can in the GC.
The presence of Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) might make the last objective harder than expected.

Stage 1

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0001_zpsed6cca01.jpg

In the fisrt stage, it was Team Europcar, Saxo Tinkoff and us (David) who were pacing the pack, we controlled the breakaway and with the last efforts of Johan and Yoann, they were back in the pack with 8 kilometers to go.
Then we made the sprints train and Arnaud did was is the best at, winning. It's the first victory of Arnaud this season. There are 4 FDJ.fr in the top 10 including me at the 10th position.

Stage 2

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0002_zps4ecdd28b.jpg

That stage was ending after a small cobble section where we go through twice already. With that information it's logical to say that RadioShack - Leopard worked with us at the front of the pack, we were defending the Leader jersey of Arnaud, they were hoping for a success from Fabian Cancellara ( RLT).

Fabian never managed to escape the pack and due to my abilities on cobblestones I was the last lead out for Arnaud.
Again, he was stronger than everyone and to my own surprise I even managed to get the second position, the podium was completed by Geoffrey Soupe another rider of the team!!!

4 Jours de Dunkerque

Stage 4

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0004_zps8c448690.jpg

That Stage was the "queen stage" of the race, we had 10 laps around the Mont Cassel with an uphill cobble section that was very hard to handle for many riders.

We made a mistake by letting 14 riders going away, including guys like Nick Nuyens ( GRS) or Adam Hansen ( LTB).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0009_zpsd63fc5ea.jpg

The gap of the breakaway was constantly growing but behind we were not giving up, Behind the impulsion of Johan Le Bon ( FDJ), the pack was reduced to a number of 16 riders including Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) and Sylvain Chavanel ( IAM).
We had still 78 kilometers to go.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0010_zpsd1c37c55.jpg

Then with 23 kilometers left, Nick Nuyens ( GRS) was the only rider remaining at the front, he was 53" ahead of us but the gap was decreasing quite fast.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0011_zpsa6b37829.jpg

Arnaud Démare ( FDJ) had dropped out from the main group, I was virtual leader. Yoann Offredo ( FDJ) gave all he had to bring back Nick Nuyens ( GRS) but a flat tire forced him to stop the chase.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0012_zps738e7daa.jpg

Finally with Matthieu Ladagnous ( FRA) we managed to leave the remaining riders and we joined a Nick Nuyens ( GRS) completely exhausted. On the cobblestones Yoann Offredo ( FDJ) was coming closer to the group but he never made it, I let the victory to Matthieu who worked hard today and I knew I had the race leadership.

Stage 5

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/16%20Dunkerque/PCM0005_zps1425dea8.jpg

The last stage was a flat stage for the sprinters, my main goal was to avoid crash and break in the pack which I did quite well.

The winner of the stage was Justin Jules ( LPM) who came before Arnaud Démare ( FRA) and Tom Van Asbroeck ( TVB).

Again, it was a perfect race for the team. Three riders in the top 3, better would have been hard Grin

Concerning my riding, I proud of myself, I never thought I would be able to win that race. Alone it would have been impossible but thanks to my team mates I won one big race.

Race Report:

This is a race I won last year. Today I was coming with lower expectation, my form is not there yet and my next target are the French National Championship.
A breakaway of 5 riders got created right after kilometer 0 and they last until the last 10 kilometers.

The only real attack of the day came from Gustav Erik Larsson ( IAM), he did not went far but he was the only one to attack the very well organized Movistar Team.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/17%20Plumelec%20Aulne/PCM0002_zpsa22a55d1.jpg

And they were organized a bit too well, as they made the double with Juan José Lobato Del Valle ( MOV) first and Giovanni Visconti ( MOV) second. I came to a descent 6th position.

Race Report:

For me it was the same as in the Grand Prix de Plumelec, I even decided to work for others as I was not seining myself doing well in the final.

The final of the race was very intense with attacks going on and on, none of it really succeeded but at list they tried. Brice Feillu ( BSE) and Yann Huguet ( BIG) were two of many attackers.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/17%20Plumelec%20Aulne/PCM0006_zps6857c046.jpg

But meanwhile at the front, the breakaway guys had not gave up, after a fight against the pack, Giampaolo Caruso ( KAT) managed to resist to the puncher and he took the victory. The best ranked rider of the team is Arthur Vichot ( FDJ),I ended 21st.

I did what I had to do in those two races, and like I said, my main target are the French National Championship. The results are not bad with my 6th position in the Grand Prix de Plumelec - Morbihan and the 5th position of Arthur in the Boucles de l'Aulne - Châteaulin.

In order to prepare myself for the French NCs I will go to the Tour de Suisse.

I think FDJ is a bit too strong to compete in the cup Pfft

@sutty68: I look like that indeed but we never know what could happen Wink

@welker3257: yeah, well FDJ is focusing on the French NCs and those races are just meant to be preperation races Grin

@Ian Butler: I don't see why Rolling Eyes but yeah we are a cut above the rest Grin

We are the night of the third day of the Tour de Suisse, I'm in my hotel room with Yoann and since I've got some free time before lunch, I'm giving you the Ranking of the Tour de Romandie, Giro d'Italia and Critérium du Dauphiné.

Thibaut had a great time in those three races but especially in the Critérium du Dauphiné where he took the overall victory in front of Chris Froome ( SKY). In the Giro there were clearly no fight for Pink except between Thibaut and Alberto Contador ( TST).

@welker3257: true, Thibaut is starting to have name among the GC contenders. Remember last season, 3rd of the TDF and 7th in the Vuelta.

@sutty68: His net goal is the Vuelta a España, I'm sure he'll get another top 10 Grin

Pre-Race:

This year, contrary to last year, we will have no ambition of a GC, we will be stage hunters during the whole 9 stage, everyone will start as a free element and then we will see who is in shape.

Stage 1

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0001_zpse634ae1b.jpg

The first stage was a 7.9 kilometer prologue, none of us had the strength to get a proper results, even Jérémy Roy ( FDJ) who is kind of a "specialist" in this category.

Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) won at home with a lead of 6" on Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ). The best result of the team is from Yoann Offredo ( FDJ) who ended 67th with a gap of 28".

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0010_zps0fc5754a.jpg

Stage 2

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0002_zps677adc7e.jpg

The real thing were starting here for me even though I was not sure of handling the last long climb.

Yoann Offredo ( FDJ) was part of the breakaway alongside Tony Martin ( OPQ), Sylvain Chavanel ( IAM) or Alessandro Ballan ( BMC).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0011_zps804e1ca8.jpg

With 10 kilometers to go a group composed of many favorites got away from the pack, none of us managed to be part of that group, we had to chase them and it was not an easy task.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0012_zpsc2e9430d.jpg

The group managed to stay at front and Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ) took the stage after a very disputed sprint. Maxime Monfort ( LTB) and Simon Spilak ( KAT) completed the podium.

I ended with Arthur Vichot ( FDJ) and Arnold Jeannesson ( FDJ) in a group 2'23 after the winner.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0013_zps5761255d.jpg

Stage 3

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0003_zps0df3abda.jpg

Again, we had a rider at the front, it was even more important since only 2 riders managed to got away from the pack. Arnold Jeannesson ( FDJ) and Jack Bobridge ( BEL) were of for a very long day.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0014_zpsefda76b0.jpg

During the race, Arnold did not count his efforts and its a fresher Jack Bobridge ( BEL) that attacked with 6 kilometers left, the victory for them was already sure the pack was 3' behind.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%201-2-3/PCM0015_zps266af687.jpg

Despite his want of getting back on Jack Bobridge ( BEL), Arnold never managed to beat the Time Trial Specialist, he still took a very good 2nd position.

Stage 4

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0004_zpsae6284b3.jpg

Today it was my turn to be in the breakaway, I had good sensation, my leg were good too and I had the feeling that the pack would not chase much. I was in breakaway of riders with Daryl Impey ( OGE), Sergei Chernetskiy ( KAT) and Stijn Devolder ( OPQ).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%204-5-6/PCM0001_zps9161addd.jpg

Like I said, the pack let us go for the victory and I as I really wanted that win, I saved some energy during the whole day waiting for that precise moment. None of us tried a solo victory, so I took the wheel Daryl Impey ( OGE), the fastest of the group.

To beat those four riders I had to try something earlier than they would have expected. I attack before the kilometers banner, I surprised them and I had a slight gap created.

Did I resisted to the come back of the very strong Daryl Impey ( OGE), yes, I did it!!! I won for the first time in a WT race!!!
And thanks to that I entered the top 10 of the race.

Stage 4

That stage was not a stage for me, the finish was too hard to be for a puncher. Arnold was the guy for us.
The strong man of the race this year is clearly from Poland, Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ) already won a stage here and he did it again in that stage.
Arnold ended 13th in the same time as the winner, I took the 23rd position finishing 3'29 after Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ).

Stage 6

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0006_zps2ec07257.jpg

Our hopes were on Arnaud today, the finish was made for the sprinters.

The problem was that we messed up our train, and Arnaud had to fight hard to get a top 10 contrary to Arthur who never left the front of the pack.

The winner of the stage is Peter Sagan ( CAN), Arnaud ended 7th and Arthur 8th.

Well, finally I won in a WT race, after a breakaway perhaps but what a breakaway, beating Daryl Impey or Stijn Devolder is a success for me, I hope we could won another stage in that race but it will depends on the riders of Omega Pharma - QuickStep.

Tour de Suisse

Stage 7

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0007_zps2475ae76.jpg

This stage was not an easy one, the final was made for pure punchers and I was getting tired of my efforts of the previous day.

Victory went to Damiano Cunego ( LAM) who beat Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ) in the sprint. Arthur Vichot ended in the leading group at the 12th position in the same time as the winner.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%207-8-9/PCM0002_zps02169e65.jpg

Stage 8

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0008_zps973ec4bc.jpg

The hardest stage of the race, the breakaway was composed of 17 riders including Jérémy Roy. The gap was never very high as the entente between the men was not that good.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%207-8-9/PCM0003_zps8094d555.jpg

It's the breakaway that disputed the win, and Jérémy has not the best climbing abilities. the victory went to Sergei Chernetskiy ( KAT).
Jérémy ended 6th, 1'06 afer the winner.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/Stage%207-8-9/PCM0004_zpsc645654c.jpg

Stage 9

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/18%20Suisse/PCM0009_zps2edd8829.jpg

The last stage was a 34.9 kilometer time trial.

Tony Martin ( OPQ) and Michal Kwiatkowski ( OPQ) made the double and Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) ended at the 3rd position.

My Time Trial was a disaster as I ended 78th, 3'54 after the winner.

With this race over, I still have the Halle - Ingooigem to do before the French Road Race National Championships.

What we can remember of this race? My first stage victory in a World Tour race. and the fact that I am feeling good so I might have a chance for the NC.
