Again a story ends because of PCM problems
I've had my share of bad luck with databases and crashes, so I understand completely! |

Like most of the stages in this race, stage 6 looks harder than it really is. The last 10 km are only slightly uphill, almost a false flat. I would be surprised if there were time gaps today.
The Race
A seven man group got away in the descent of the first climb. It included: De Maar of UnitedHealthCare, Mannion of Bontrager, McCarthy of Bissell, Friedmann of Champion System, Koren of Cannondale, Kochetkov of RusVelo, and Romero of Jamis.
With 20 km to go, the break is under control with a gap of 1 10, and they should get caught in the last 10 km.
At the foot of the cat 3 climb, I told Ciolek to try set a pace that only I could match and he succeeded, as we rode away from the 45 man bunch behind. Unfotunatly, Dennis hauled us back, and I told Ciolek he could fight for the win at the end of the stage.
With 5 km to go, the break is soon to be caught by the BMC-lead bunch, and the stage will end in an uphill sprint.
With 1 km to go, Ciolek shows that he is the fastest man on American Soil right now as he riding away from the competition.
It is just too easy for the German, as he takes the win over Nathan Brown of Bontrager, and Gallopin. I take 5th behind Silin.

Post Race Comments- There was no margin of error today, and the team committed no errors today, so I keep yellow. The only person who I think can challenge for the jersey at this point is Gallopin, who will win the race if he can win tomorrow's stage, which is a flat bunch sprint stage. I will close my blog tomorrow following the stage
See You Then- Ian
This will actually end tomorrow as I don't have time for stage 7.

The final stage of the UPCC and my blog is a short flat stage that finishes in Denver. The team has decided to try and let the breakaway take the stage win today, to avoid time bonuses at the finish for the GC riders.
The Race
The day's 5 man breakaway got away at the gun. The riders: Hamelink of Jo Piels, Gaimon of Bissell, De Maar of UnitedHealthCare, Friedemann of Champion System, and Magner of Hincapie. Best placed rider is De Maar at 3 40 down in the GC.
With 20 km to go, our plan is working, as the break leads by 2 15. The wind is starting to pick up, and crosswinds could play a part in the finale.
10 km later, and it looks like the break should take the stage, as Astana has given up the chase 1 30 behind.
With 4 km to go, De Maar put in a big move and got away from his breakaway companions. One of the five riders will take the stage as the gap has grown to 1 45.
One km to go, and Friedemann has brought De Maar back into the group and leads out the others heading into the final kilometer.
The German takes the win for Champion System! Gaimon takes second and De Maar rounds out the podium in third. Hamelink is fourth and Magner fifth. I safely finish in the bunch 1 12 back, and take another victory in my home country!

I hope you think it is good news
I will be using a DB based on the PCM 2014 update. Playing on hard with .7 evolution. 18 WT teams, and some changes to WT calender.
Calender Changes
The Amgen Tour of California has replaced the Tour Down Under on the WT calender next season. Paris-Tours has also been added back to the WT calender.
MTN-Qhubeka
I think that it will be an uphill battle to remain in the WT next year. For this reason, the team has decided to focus Ciolek on fall WT classics, and we hope for big points there. Stybar will target the cobbles at the beginning of the year, and the Eneco Tour in the fall. Thomas will go after the cobbles and the TDF this year.
My Provisional Calender
I have a long season ahead of me, and I will start in the Tour of Oman. I will then head to Belgium for the Omloop and K-B-K. My first WT race as leader will be Tirreno-Adriatico. After a month away from racing, I return to action in the Tour of the Basque Country. I will use this race as prep for the Ardennes Classics. Following L-B-L, I head to Switzerland for the Tour of Romandie, followed by the Tour of California. I get a short break before I will ride Tour de Suisse in preparation for my big goal of the year, Le Tour de France. After the Tour, I get a long break, before heading to Canada for the Canadian classics, where I will likely end my season.
Some other teams
NetApp is the other new WT team this year, they will likely demote following the season. They benfited greatly from Sky disbanding, picking up a ton of solid riders.
The main reason NetApp is in WT, is because Fernando Alonso couldn't get Santander to sponsor a team. Instead, Oakley stepped up and gave enough cash for a strong PCT team. They are likely to promote, and will probably sign many riders in the off-season, assuming they secure more sponsorship.
In other news, Edvald Bossasen Hagen signed with Saxo Bank. All former Sky riders that were caught doping have been convicted, and will be eligible to return to action in February 2015.

Some nice additions to the squad.

Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"

Tour of Oman Stage Prreview
The team sends its Tirreno team to Oman. I'm the leader, and Thomas is my main helper. Stybar will go for the sprints.
There are lots of solid GC riders, but no one who is much better than I am. I would like to take the win in my first race of the season.
The first stage of the Tour of Oman is an easy day that should end in a bunch sprint. There will be crosswinds of around 50 Km/h.
It was a really boring stage, there actually wasn't a breakaway, and Cannondale's train was stronger than Omega's, as Peter Sagan takes the first stage ahead of Cavendish and Coquard.

Post Race Comments- I feels good to be racing again! Just putting it out there that this will be what most flat stage reports will look like this season, unless I'm racing with Ciolek. Tomorrow is a hilly stage, Stybar said that he wants to try something.
See You Then- Ian
