It's not a trick anyway, it's just a tactic.
which means one of two things:
1. the car has a serious imbalance that makes it much slower than its opponents on decent fuel loads, meaning a colossal mistake by designers.
or
2. It's a publicity stunt derived from Renault president Carlos Ghosn's words that either the team starts showing results or it'll be shut down
which one is more likely?

When the midfield is as close as it is this year the best thing you can do is either fuel just short enough to be 1st or fuel really long.
It would've worked really well if he had of had a better start; unluckily he went down to 5th from the start line, if he had of stayed 3rd he would've finished on the podium.
not really. history shows us time and time again that it simply doesn't work, unless it's at a track where the penalty for a high fuel load is extremely high (think of the Hungaroring)

Laps pitted
Alonso-15
Hamilton-20
Trulli-21
Kubica-21
Raikkonen-22
Glock-22
Massa-24
Webber-24
as you can see, trulli didn't have a light fuel load at all

That's an odd thing to say after posting the results that show Trulli was the shortest fueled apart from Alonso.
If Trulli had of had the same fuel as Webber + Kovalinen he would've qualified behind them and would never have got past them.
In a straight race Trulli wasn't the 3rd fatest out there, he just didn't let Kovalinen, Kubica , Webber or Piquet past. |

but the difference is much less. he drove 88% the laps Webber did and was pretty much on average.
You mentioned the Alonso strategy working for him. the Alonso strategy, running light enough to be up there in qualifying, was to run 63% of the laps Webber did. gigantic difference.

What does this sentence mean?
the difference between trulli and webber is very small. the difference between alonso and webber is huge. trulli drove 88% of the amount of laps webber did before stopping.

What do you mean by: "the difference between Trulli and Webber is very small"?
The difference in what, and when? |

The difference is 3 laps.
That's what i'm saying; qualifying is all about beating your opponent by the smallest margin possible.
Toyota got it perfect by fueling Trulli just shorter than Webber, and that's how he won. |

of course. just one detail: that has nothing to do with what we were discussing

Yeah it does!
Here's what happend:
I said, "When the midfield is as close as it is this year the best thing you can do is either fuel just short enough to be 1st or fuel really long."
You said, "not really. history shows us time and time again that it simply doesn't work"
I said, "Well it worked for Trulli last weekend!"
You said, "trulli didn't have a light fuel load at all",
and then showed a stat to prove yourself wrong!
I then proved myself right about it working for Trulli last weekend. |

Gonna be a great race today, the conditions are awful
Mark Webber had a great drive to get on the front row, hopefully he'll get some points for Red Bull
Should be a lot of action today and not many cars finishing I don't think

even you can't believe that stat in any way supported you. Trulli pitted at the same time as everyone else and later than a few people. yet somehow you believe that is "running light"?
you're yet to write anything that makes even the remotest bit of sense.

Brilliant race!
The rain made it very interesting, there were lots of spins, overtaking and bad decisions by Ferrari
Massa span his car 5 times, well we saw 5 it could've been more. I feel sorry for Webber, he span on the first lap and then twice more. Hamilton was supreme, his start was perfect and from then on he dominated.
Also a great performance by Barrichello Nick Heidfeld made some great overtaking manouveres and generally looked very quick.
Ferrari were just plain stupid when Raikkonen pitted and they left him on used intermediate tires. He lost 40seconds in 3 laps
In the end Hamilton wins by more than a minute, he completely dominated, a superb ride by him, Heidfeld and Barrichello.
For anyone who missed the race because of the TdF or just missed it generally, I do reccomend watching a replay of it, it was very enjoyable

I watched it yesterday, and it was really entertaining. When the rain was on its maximum, no one could really control their cars. It's not "beautiful" racing, but as said, it was damn entertaining |

Ok not a brilliant overtaking race, it never will be at Hungary. But how exciting was that
Amazingly bad luck for Hamilton with his puncture, but in the end with his puncture dropping him down to 12th and him fighting his way up to 6th. It doesn't mean anything when with 3 laps to go Massa's engine fails. Porbably overheating, Ferrari engines have a habbit of doing that.
I feel so sorry for Massa, he's a great guy. I only wish it had happened to Raikkonen...
So Hamilton finsihed 5th in the end, increasing his lead over Massa and losing just 2 points to Kimi. Oh and have I mentioned:
HEIKKI AND TIMO!!!
I liked this race
