Interesting, although I think that Cunego has lost most of that kick now. I'd give a clear edge to Valverde in a sprint between them this year.
And calling a sprint on top of the Velefique flat isn't really fair, even though the climb does flatten out in the final kilometer

I agree they've both lost a bit of kick, as is normal at their age. But I'd still rank Cunego as one of the best sprinters among climbers.
Since you mention last year, he got involved in several flat sprints at Catalunya last year. Did very well.

Moreno. Valverde. Cunego.
Moreno is by far the better sprinter of those three (the other two are closely matched), but reputation counts so Valverde will get the nod as leader
OMG Moreno. If Moreno wins the Worlds I might have to stop watching cycling for one year. I don't think I could withstand the sight of that guy wearing the rainbow jersey.

Why'd it be any more disgusting than Valverde or Cunego?

Because:
1) I don't like the guy. Well, more precisely, there's people you don't like. Then there's people you really don't like. Then there's Moreno.
2) I like a big name winning the Worlds. I can do an exception for some riders, but due to 1) Moreno is not amongst them.

How about Wiggins for the fastest sprinter amongst the top 40 climbers in the world or so ? Especially if they start sprinting with some speed, I wouldn't rule him out. He was rather impressive in Romandie last year.
That is without being sure he'll even race there.

Yes, but...why?

Opposite. I'd love it if a complete nobody won. Less famous = better

He's 35. While it's possible he might do well, I wouldn't bet on it

Never. The rainbow jersey should only be worn by great riders, and if possible won after a good race, not after a kermesse like Zolder or Copenhagen.

Then you must dislike a lot of riders in the peloton. The punchy climber is a pretty common template

Never seen an interview with him, ever.

The way he rides, not the kind of rider he is, duh. And what I've read, or heard in TV interviews from him, he came across as a moron to me. Of course I don't know him in person, so I could be wrong.

Cyclists aren't exactly the smartest people
Personally I'm just wondering how ridiculous he'd look with a world champ jersey 5 sizes too big

I was just listing the best sprinters between the 40 or so best climbers in the world
You forgot Velits then. JK, he should not get over the top near the front and he will target TT anyway.
I think Valverde, Nibali or Cunego and the Colombian coke army.
Edit: I did not notice we are in Pais Vasco thread, sorry for OT.
But Pais Vasco is done from the moment Porte was being seen in the startlist ,so nothing much to talk about here.
Conta should try his usual crazy attack today!

I reckon Cunego will serve in a long attack, though, no? It seems that's his role the last years. |

TO shed some light on how much exactly Anton sucks: He says this is his top form.

That doesn't sound very promising. I guess he did okay on the stage to Trapagaran, but he lost almost 4 minutes yesterday on a climb that used to suit him perfectly.
I guess we'll never find out how far he would've gone in the 2011 Vuelta if it wasn't for that crash.

Does it matter, when he was with high probability doped back there?
