According to some rumours, Vladimir Putin is negotiating about making a Tour of Russia. Also, Russia will be aiming at hosting the Pro Tour final next year. Pat McQuaid has confirmed this today (in the Guardian), and also says that he's negotiating with China.
"Pro Tour Final?" huh?
Final, yes. Check the 08 PT-calendar |

it doesn't make any sense. is it supposed to be a tour, a classic? and it isn't even at the end of the calendar...

Hehe, right, no one knows what it is. I think it's supposed to be a new one-day-race where they celebrate the winner of the Pro Tour, etc., etc.. |

Due to the dramatic events of 2007, drastic changes were needed for the Team Astana, and after a few short meetings between Bruyneel and Damsgaard both parties easily came to an agreement on the structure of an anti-doping. During the 2008 season, all Astana riders will follow and undergo the Astana "Healthy Choice" Programme of the Danish doctor.
the nail in the coffin on any shred of belief that anyone might have had on CSC maybe being clean

Depends on his results. If I am to believe that it works he will have to catch some riders. In fact, I had the same criterium when he got hired at CSC, and since no one has been caught I'm a bit sceptical... |

"This is the programme I would liked to have had last year," he continued. He was not yet ready to announce the name of those running the programme. "There is at least one other team involved, and it will be handled by an independent testing company. They began their work in October [at the team meeting -ed.] and it will be fully in place by January 1."
funny that he doesn't want to say it now because a few months ago he said that Rabobank were analysing the system so they could use an identical one next season
EDIT: this is about the former T-Mobile Team anti-doping programme

Uhm, seems like Sinkewitz also used DynEPO before 2006. He said to BDR that he didn't use it, but admitted using the drug to the police.
Oh well, I guess that's what all the top-riders use then. It can't be traced, so it's perfect. |

as long as the big bucks are on the wrong side of the law, the doping practices will always be one step ahead of the anti-doping controls as all the good technicians will be working on new ways to dope.

Belgian court has declined Kashechkin's appeal of his suspension. The judge said that the case didn't really interest her |

Not exactly Crue.
Dutch/Belgian news reports that the court in Liege couldn't make a decision because they are not classified to judge cases like this. The whole thing will probably be carried over to a higher court. |

The biological passport should help here. The substances won't be searched (they'll still be in regular controls), but their effects will be.
Rest to know how it will work and how/on which basis they'll suspend cheaters. |

Well, the judge said that she didn't want to go through the case because she didn't think that it had anything to do with Belgium, and therefore he should try the case at a higher court -- or, well, a more "international" court. |

Menchov will maybe ride the Giro next year. He will be present at the race presentation to see if it's something he'd like to ride.
Evans has won the Sports performer of the year in Australia
Milram will ride under German license next year. They had an Italian license last season. |

Rabobank has changed it's structure. Breukink is no longer a member of the board, but only first team manager. Harold Knebel is the new director and Marja Vliegenthart is head of the "raad van commissarissen" (dunno how to translate). Knebel was director of Private banking at Rabobank, but is a cycling fan, so he does know at least something about cycling hopefully. Vliegenthart was old secretary of state (staatssecretaris) of Sports in the Netherlands. |

Tour Down Under will be a Pro Tour-race for (at least) the next 4 races.
.. and still no wages paid to the Astana-riders. They have now made an ultimatum: If they don't get their wages before Christmas they will go to the police / UCI. |
