Vuelta a Espana
Stage 11
Today is a very small hill stage. It should come down to a sprint or a lucky break away.
The Race
Zebriskie was our man for the break today. He has had a disappointing Vuelta so far and wants to make up for it.
When the peloton went through the first mountain sprint the leading group had 7.20. (92km to go)
Dan Martin went on an attack that wasn’t planned.
With 55km to go all the big hills had ended and Hushovd was still in contact of the main group with energy.
With 18km to go the gap was down to 2.15 seconds. Zebriskie and Martin had both been caught.
With 7km to go Nicolai and I both attacked. We were really going at it too.
Nicolai did great. With 1.8km to go I had 43 seconds on the peloton. The break was going to win but that didn’t bug me.
Geslan took a great win ahead of Santambrogio and Longo Borghini.
I came in 1.30 later but still ahead of the peloton.
The question is did I get a time gap?

Vuelta a Espana
Stage 12
Another mountain stage. With the flat finish I am hoping to get more time back on Frank.
The Race
Le Mevel went in the break for us today.
Le Mevel took the mountain points. The leading group of 7 had 2.26 on the peloton.
A group of 3 riders in the leading group rode of the front they were, Le Mevel, Devolder and Ramirez.
Devolder got away from Le Mevel with 60km to go.
Going over the top Le Mevel was 1.26 behind Devolder.
With 24km to go I was caught out from the attacking.
With 10km to go there was a big group in the lead. This was going to be an exciting finish.
With 2km to go I attacked off the front of the group.
I started my sprint with 1km to go.
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! I won the stage. I am so happy.
My first win of the Vuelta. I got time bonuses so even less time to get back on Schleck.

Vuelta a Espana
Stage 13
Today is another mountain stage but this time with an uphill finish. I am hoping to gain time on the other guys especially Schleck.
The Race
Millar, who is still chasing that mountain jersey, went into the break of the day.
Unfortunately Millar’s group did not stay away.
The peloton wasn’t letting any break get away today.
A break finally got away after 60km of racing.
The break never had a chance today with the biggest gap being 2.20
Le Mevel got on the front when Leopard stopped working.
Le Mevel finished of the break with 108km to go.
Millar got on the front after the break was caught.
Thor decided to go for a sprint and get the points so he did and celebrated as a joke. It was a good morale boost and I gave him a hand shake when he got back.
Thor got on the front after his little sprint.
Le Mevel attacked with 73km to go.
Le Mevel went hard on the downhill to gain some more time on the peloton and catch up o Bernabeu who also attacked on the climb.
Le Mevel caught him about half way down the climb.
Le Mevel got dropped again just like yesterday.
Moreno caught up to Bernabeu with 40km to go.
The mountain started with 20km to go. Now the real race starts.
With 11km to go I was leading Schleck up the climb. Sastre was ahead of us and we were 48 seconds in front of the next group.
With 4km to go Sastre had 35 seconds on me and Schleck.
With 1km to go Sastre was still leading but Schleck was coming.
And Sastre takes his first win of the Vuelta. Great race by him.
Schleck takes 2nd and I take 3rd. I loss some time on Schleck but I can still bring him back.

Vuelta a Espana
Stage 14
Today we climb the most important and last mountain of the Vuelta. Its name is the Angliru. This fierce climb will be where the real time gaps happen. I will be aiming to gain time on Frank or not lose any.
The Race
Zebriskie is trying once again for a breakaway.
The breakaway with 96km to go.
They had only 37 seconds on the peloton.
Zebriskie took the first intermediate sprint point and mountain sprint. He is doing great.
With 36km to go the break had 2.56 on the peloton and 1.01 on Jelle Vanendert.
Zebriskie was the first rider to lose contact to the group containing Vanendert.
With 13km to go Vanendert only had 35 seconds on the peloton.
Martin took over protecting me with 11km to go.
Vanendert was also caught with 11km to go.
With 6km to go it was Schleck and I in the lead.
Sastre takes another win with another show of strength. I take 2nd in a sprint with Schleck.

A quick summary of stage 15
Stage 15
In stage 15 the team was working for Hushovd. It was a Norway day today with the Norwegians taking out 1st and 3rd. Unfortunately it was the other Norwegian to take out the win and that was of course Edvald Boasson Hagen. He won ahead of Greipel and Hushovd rounds of the podium.

Getting closer... Just one question. Why were you leading Schleck up the climb on stage 13? You're not his team mate and he's in the GC lead, he should be leading up, not you. |
