Ryan Eastman - Bontrager 2013 February
roturn
Thanks all. Was indeed a good race for. Top8 is more than I had expected after entering the top10 and Craddock`s top3 was expected and although I had hoped for a +5 day this was a good result.

Tour Alsace

While we have been racing in Colombia the rest of the team went to France for the Tour Alsace. Ian Boswell, who unfortunately decided to leave the team, was supposed to lead the team there and was one of the race favourites.

The first three stages had nothing special. Bigger groups reached the finish together.
The fourth stage was a mix between hard mountain finish and easy hilly finish. So although it looked really hard a bigger group entered the finish together. Only the best climber in the peloton with Malacarne and Boswell were able to create a gap to a ~25 rider group still including guys like Dumoulin.
The next stage was a 17km time trial, where Boswell played out his advantage against Malacarne. After a great performance and 6th of the stage he conquered the leader jersey before the queen`s stage on the last day.
This one was really something for the climbers. Mannion and Brown really prepared Boswell`s attack. And with 7km to go he started his acceleration and nobody was really able to follow. Boswell won in the leader jersey and so also the Tour Alsace 2012. Great result for us although we must admit, it wasn`t the best competition. But beating Malacarne is nothing that can be done on every day in a race like this.

Great final days in Colombia with Dombo. Also nice result with Craddock in the TT. Smile

And Boswell with a great victory as well!

Greay victory for Boswell Wink despite the fact it may just be a leaving present Frown

Nice win against Team Europcar Smile

Thanks all. Boswell was a bit surprising as he didn`t peak for the race but actually there were just 3-4 75+ climber. Malacarne with 78! still the best.
@Sutty: Well, then he should give me a lot more points as I will need them to get a PCT license. At the moment I am 21st or so. So just at the border between PCT and CT. But most remaining races might suit better than the first season races.

3 new riders to announce

Hi,

It`s me again. We just travel to France for the next race: Tour des Pyrénées. It`s again quite a mountaineous race, so nothing for me GC wise. And the competition is supposed to be pretty good with some strong French teams there again.

Ot the bus journey to our hotel our manager gave us some news for the next season. As already said the transfer season is a bit divided into riders that will sign a contract for CT and PCT division and some, obviously stronger riders, that will only join us when reaching the PCT division just like some of our riders like Joe, Dale or Lawson who will leave for a bigger team when staying in the CT division.

But he also announced three riders that will definitely be my team mates next season and I am pretty sure they can help us.

Spoiler
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Grenda.jpg

First is Ben Grenda. The Australian rode for the British Rapha Condor team. I don`t really much about him. Our only race together was the Emerald Race in Australia.
He is supposed to be a young sprinter and we hope that he still has some room to improve a bit. This season he had nothing worth mentioning. But he should be a good addition for our team in especially as we don`t really have a sprinter.

Spoiler
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Rathe.jpg

With Jacob Rathe we have been able to sign a young and promising American talent. He comes from the World Tour squad by Garmin. But he never really was able to fulfill their expectations. We are not totally sure in what direction he will develope as he as strength in both hilly classics and Northern classics. Lust like Grenda he had no special results this season.

Spoiler
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Berry.jpg

Last and probably the biggest signing so far. Joshua Berry. Another American allrounder. With only 21 years he already reached quite a lot. He decided to sign for us although his chances to sign for Garmin one day wasn`t the worst as he is riding for their farm team Chipotle.
He had some really impressive results this season like the 2nd overall in the Oberösterreichrundfahrt plus a stage win there. He also had several good top15 performances and we are quite sure to have a really good signing in him. Best thing that he will sign for us no matter the division. So we surely have a strong rider next year even if we don`t reach the next division.

That`s it for the moment. I haven`t heard anything about the signed neo pros yet and also the PCT signings are still unknown. Probably until a later date when the license stuff is more secured.

See you soon in the France Pyrénées.

Ryan

Three good looking signings there, hopefully Grenda will secure some sprint victories for the Team Wink

Some good (and realistic) signings for the team, especially Grenda and Berry!

Love the signings, young and promising!

roturn
Glad that you all like the signings. I tried to have a very realistic CT team next season. This is also the reason why I would let some of the riders under contract go like Dombrowski.
In case of reaching the PCT I think it might be a bit more unrealistic in case of what Bontrager Trek is at the moment. But on the other hand I still only sign guys from the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Belgium. So the countries that have been there before.
@sutty: I don`t think Grenda will be winning sprints directly. He needs to improve his skills a bit, at least I hope he still can, don`t know their limits.

Tour des Pyrénées - Vuelta a los Pirinéos

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_logo.jpg

The Tour des Pyrénées is an UCI 2.2 race held in the Southwest of France and Northeast of Spain. It leads directly through the Pyrénées on 4 stages.
It was first held in 1978 under the name Tour de Bigorre. Since 1994 it`s held under the actual name. Former winners are Fabio Duarte or Sergio Pardilla.
In 2011 the race had financial problems and also in 2012 it was not secured. But just a few weeks ago another sponsor was found and the race can be held.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_Profil.jpg

While the first stage is still not too hard and can be won by a sprinter the next two are really the stages, that should make the GC. The 2nd is the queen`s stage with some very tough climbs and a mountain top finish. Also the 3rd stage is a very hard one and as the descent to the finish is not that long and after a very hard HC mountain it should as well lead to gaps.
The final stage has some mountains as well, but as the difficulties are far from the finish we expect a breakaway or good puncheur to win this one.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_Team.jpg

Parker and Boswell will lead us in this race. They are pretty similar climbers and both are having a great form. Boswell`s might be a bit better and also the win in Alsace should give him some more motivation. With Mannion, Brown and Avis they have good support for the hard stages while I probably suffer the most. I might try something on stage 1 or stage 4. Normally I should be pretty far behind then.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_Startlist.jpg

Europcar and Cofidis are the teams to beat here. First have some potential winners including this years Tour de France 6th overall Pierre Rolland. Also Kern must be named within the biggest favourites. Cofidis might go for either Taaramae or Moncoutie.
Camano is a solid climber but lacks support in this race. Schumacher, Chernetski and the 2nd row of the Colombians are always good picks for these kind of races.

Hope the team has a great time in Spain. Shame I can't download this DB, as I always enjoyed the PPDB.

Thanks all. Actually I don`t even know exactly where the race is held. I think it is mainly French but can`t say for sure.
@Miguel98: Why you cannot download? Too big? It`s based on the PCMDaily, so if you already have this one it`s not that big.

Tour des Pyrénées - Vuelta a los Pirinéos

Stage 1 - Semeac - Tarbes (158,4km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_1-1584-1.jpg

The first stage might be the easiest and still there are lots of small climbs that might hurt the sprinters. So we always must be concentrated before we get surprised.
As we don`t have a stage favourite we will try to send a rider into todays break. It`s not decided yet who it is but we have 4 options here. Maybe the sprinter teams miscalculate todays stage and can`t go full speed later on the hills to avoid their sprinters getting dropped.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_2.jpg

A group of 3 with a good advance. Gavin Mannion is our rider in this group. His companions are Guay (Roubaix) and Rake (Joker Merida).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_4.jpg

With Europcar (Chavanel, Arashiro) and Christina Watches (Furlan) two of the sprinter teams are working. Also Itera Katusha is doing a lot but due to the lack of a sprinter they might already work for Chernetski, who must have been a great form then.
With 85km left the gap is at 6'40 but unfortunately melting again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_6.jpg

My task today was to bring the waterbottles from the team car to the front.
Not the best task but seeing that I might be the weakest climber in our squad here it`s just normal that it felt to me.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_8.jpg

The breakaway pushed really hard. In especially Mannion always highered the pace and convinced the others to help him.
Still they were caught with a bit more than 7km to go. It was not meant to be today.
Itera Katusha obviously didn`t want to allow anybody a gap before the mountain stages as they did the work with 5 men in the end.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_10.jpg

With exactly 3km to go a mass crash in the 2nd half of the peloton. Luckily none of our riders was involved although it just happened quite close to them.
The peloton splitted now into a part of sprinters and GC riders, some blocked riders and the crashed riders. Too dramatic now and nobody really knows if there are any GC favourites involved.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_1_12.jpg

Europcar had the main sprint train for Chavanel but he couldn`t keep the high pace until the end. Kenda`s Damiani wins this stage ahead of Molmy and Furlan.

I finished on the 23rd as best of us and except for Mannion all our riders finished within the first peloton.

Then the situation became more clear now and we can see the involved GC riders. Actually quite a lot with Kern being the biggest name.
+1'52: Kern, Edet, Zakarin
+3'21: Orozco, Vitorino, Quintero, Schumacher

I can't download it because it's on the PPDB site wich I am not registered with. Sweaty had put the links on the site, but he removed them because Plankel could have been upset with that.

And Ryan making top-25 on a sprint stage? Very good result.

Ian Butler
A mass sprint, Kern loses some time, that's good Wink

FreitasPCM
Good signings for the team. Smile And good luck in the Pyrenees hope Ryan gives everything to bring a good result from the leaders. Wink

roturn
Thanks all.
@Freitas: Should be fun to play with the team next season.
@Ian: Indeed. Good stage. Gaining time on some opponents always nice, not necessarily the way this time.
@Miguel: Can`t you register there to download?

Tour des Pyrénées - Vuelta a los Pirinéos

Stage 2 - Pierrefitte Nestalas - St Lary Plat d'Adet (142,5km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_1-1425.jpg

One of the hardest stage for me the whole season. The first half might be alright although it`s already quite mountaineous. Then the horror starts for me. 3 hard climbs up to the finish. This is where Dale and Ian want to perform well. With Europcar and Cofidis they have strong teams, who are the favourites today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_2.jpg

A few riders in todays break. None of them is a good climber so they shouldn`t be such a big danger in the end of the stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_4.jpg

Cofidis and Kenda are doing the early work. The pace is not that fast and so the first Cat.1 mountain is not the hardest.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_6.jpg

61 riders start the climb onto the HC mountain. It`s only 13km but pretty steep.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_8.jpg

Christophe Kern lost some time in yesterdays crash. And as he is out of the GC fight now he is doing everything to support his team mate Rolland.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_10.jpg

The pace obviously increased now and so it`s already time for me to lose contact. Just like Avis actually.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_12.jpg

34 riders made it over the top in the peloton. With 4 riders we still have a good strength there.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_14.jpg

Kern is still leading the group on the next climb. He really performs strong here and who knows what would have happened if he was still a GC contender.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_16.jpg

Also Mannion and Brown lose contact now. Ian and Dale are on their own now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_18.jpg

After the last descent we are starting a last 4km climb. Only 13 riders left and Rolland still with his super domestique Christophe Kern.
The other riders are Boswell, Parker, Chernetski, Zakarin, Camano, Taaramae, Moncoutie, Garle, Di Gregorio, Jaramillo and Champion. With 4 riders Cofidis surely the strongest here and still they don`t do a lot.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_20.jpg

Boswell and Parker both tried to create a gap but they have no chance. Kern is still going such a high pace that they can`t really overtake him. Still they are looking strong in the first rows just next to Rolland.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Pyrenees_2_22.jpg

In the sprint it`s Rolland winning the stage and also the leader jersey. 2nd goes to the man of the day: Christophe Kern.
3rd for Boswell and 4th for Parker makes it also a great result for us.
Unfortunately the first 9 riders were counted the same time, so the only time gain we got were the bonus seconds by Boswell, who will be 2nd in the GC and leading the Youth ranking now.

For me it was a very calm day. Losing contact early and finishing far behind. At least I was able to save some energy today.
