In that case who still plays PCM 2011?
Occasionally using the excellent PCM database. Need to update from the last post I made a couple of months ago though I haven't booted it up in a month or so.
Let see if I can't breath some live into this thread. Continuing on from my Qatar Optics story which finished some 14 months ago(!), I just had a go at the 2027 Giro. It was pretty tense and exciting too!
We had a great start to the Giro. Our Kenyan puncheur, King'atua, was in pink on stage 5. Such was his form he was leading the race on the downhill to the finish with 8 KM to go, he was on the attack, when .......
He stops and abandons the race!
Grrr...
Spoiler
But, we didn't mind too much as the team I was controlling last season, Jamaica Public Services, took the win.
Fast-forward to stage 19. We have held the pink jersey with Wang Fang for a week now, really really unexpected. When, guess what happens, deja-vu ......
He is taken down on the descent to the finish by a Haribo rider.
Grr.....
This meant going into the Stelvio on stage 20, he lost the GC lead. Could he somehow fight back and become the first Chinese rider to win a GT? Or even top 20? Or would he be injured?
In the points jersey on the epic stage!
What a stage it was. Akake, who took the KOM jersey last year, made the early break. 85 MNT climber, Amirov, attacked across to him on the Stelvio and eventually dropped him - 1 min ahead of the pink jersey group.
With 8 KM to go Wang Fang attacked .... there wasn't any looking back as he dropped the pink jersey and rode across to Amirov, the latter would take the stage win but .....
Fang would do enough to move into pink. Little differences in the final TT meant he would win the Giro and take the points jersey!
So there we have it. Really was great fun. Didn't check the difficulty until stage 20, when it turned out I had it on normal rather than the usual hard, so changed it only on the final stage. But that is taking nothing away from the win and a really enjoyable race, if it was on hard we probably would have finished around 6th, at best, as the stats were:
The big thing here has to be Amirov winning the Giro and taking the points and mountain jerseys, the only one to do that apart from Merckx!
Spoiler
A very strong Rabobank team made it possible: I guess they really wanted it as the race started in Amsterdam! Rossi, just 77 mnt and 78 hill does really well to finish second.
^ This was our team going into the race.
Balcziunas, one of the top GT riders, did take a stage win and finished 2nd in the two final week TT's but he lost 18 minutes in crashes etc in the first half when he wasn't in shape.
Behr: one of the top sprinters in the game. But he couldn't compete in the first week sprint fest with bad shape: he won the mass sprint on the final sprint stage (stage 17) but couldn't catch the successful late attack from an Italian wildcard team! The same team, La Gazzetta della Sport, beat us to the win in a two man breakaway on stage 19. Our goal of a stage win in each of the three GTs this season is out of the question for Behr then. Still a good race for us with a TTT win and two others.
Behr just missing out on the win!
Fang: he won the Giro last season, but has declined slightly and the opposition was a bit too good!

Really enjoying the game, I guess, the AI really makes it worth all the editing you have to do. Maybe in 5 months time I will write up the 2029 Giro! :'
So for the past couple of weeks, i have been enjoying the run with good old PCM11, imo the best one out there,at least from newer editions.
I have installed the Daily Expansion Pack and started a career with a team i have never managed before - Leopard. I know that it is massive powerhouse in year 2011, but i wanted to try them at least once and instantly clicked extreme as difficulty.
So far the 2011 season is filled with great results and thrilling battles. We grabbed some wins in HC and 2.1 races here and there, but lets stop a little for WT events witg some details. We have also signed Matia Cattaneo from free agents pool, as we see the next big GT star in him.
Down Under: no chance for us, Bennati was like 5-6th best sprinter in majority of stages and never got close to podium. Wegmann was good on Wilunga, but break took the first six places of GC, so he has finished like 9th in GC iirc.
P-N/ Tirreno: In France, Andy Schleck was dominating, after winning Oman few weeks before. Supported by strong climbers like Gerdemann or Rohegger, he destroyed the field.
In Italy, we have won an opening TTT with guys like Cancellara,Posthuma or Voigt, our leader for GC was Frank Schleck. And in the end he finished second, as he got beaten by Contador in final TT by almost minute and a half.
Cobbled classics: Strong lineup with Cancellara, O.Grady,Bennati, Klemme and others in every race, but we have failed somewhat. Fabien won E3, Bennati won G-W, but in monuments, Fabien got only 4th in Ronde and even worse 8th in Roubaix, after late puncture.
Pais Vasco: First race with Frandy bros setup and they both got a top 10 in GC, while strong break suceed in one of the stages and Kloden grabbed the overall.
Ardennes classics: Nothing but a massive domination by Schleck brothers. Frank won Amstel after he attacked three kilometres before Cauberg and hold on in front of storming Gilbert.
Andy then destroyed the field in both Fleche and L-B-L and grabbed both prestigious wins, supported by older brother, who was his protector for the last 20-30kms. Sponsors loved this Ardennes Leopard triple!!!
Romandie: We sent our planned Giro lineup to Switzerland to build up there, bar Frank Schleck, who rested a bit, so our leader there was Fuglsang and he finished somewhere around 15th place in GC, but it was a good team building before the first GT.
Giro: Led by Frank Schleck, supported especially by Gerdemann and Fuglsang, with Nizzolo as sprint leader our team arrived in Italy with a plan for GC podium, sponsor goal was top3 finish. 2011 route was a Zomegan madness as we all know. There was a TTT early in the race, where we won and Gerdemann hold a pink jersey until Etna stage. There Basso took over it and never looked backed. He and Rujano destroyed the rest in all that insane mountain stages - Grossglockner, Zoncolan, Val di Fassa and more and more, those two were always first. Rujano won 6!! stages and Basso three. After hard battle, Schleck defended the podium in front of Evans, so we were happy. No stage win though...impossible against those two mountain goats.
Dauphine/Suisse: Giro lineup was mainly resting, so other guys was given a chance in these pre-Tour prep races. Andy was getting better and better in Switzerland, but finished 5th in the end, where Evans won the overall.
Dauphine was very interesting, with many favourites for Tour appering there, like Contador, Sanchez, Wiggins or Vinokourov. We were led by Gerdemann, who was still in great form after Giro. He finished 9th in GC, which is nice i think. Wiggins won thanks to his superior TT skills, but most important thing was injury of Contador, biggest favourite for Tour. He has broken his leg, who knows if he will okay at least for the Vuelta...so that was biggest opponent gone.
Tour de France:???
Tour is next, i have played two stages (well played one and simulated TTT). We got third in TTT after SKY and Garmin, so we are sitting pretty well in GC. Team is led by Andy of course, who is biggest favourite for the win, with likes of Evans, Wiggins, Sanchez, Nibali, Purito or Anton being the best competitors. Lets hope for the good Tour, next to Andy we have Cancellara, B.Feillu, Gerdemann, Klemme, Lund, Voigt, Posthuma and Zaugg in lineup, so great GT setup i would say. We will need it for the sponsor goal, win the Tour!
Transfers: Voigt is retiring, Lund and W.Clarke were not offered new contract, so we were looking for few names to spice the lineup for 2012. We have agreed terms with Tyler Farrar, who evolved to one of the best sprinters worldwide, he should be absolute leader in all flat stages. Bennati was unhappy with it though, his contract will be probably terminated.
We also signed a contract with Zdeněk Štybar and are in contact with two more guys, more on that in next update.
Btw Sagan is also signable, i am so tempted, but i wont do it after playing zillion times with Liquigas before in 2011 edition.
