If Rabobank and LLS now realise that he's not a GC rider and just focus on getting him in many breakaways.... |

It's safe to say that De Gendt has already won this stage from the break.

Is it real? 32 km to go and Thomas de Gendt 12 minutes in front of the P?

He is a GC rider, and his abilities are similar to Evans' abilities, but he is just a level lower.

Besides a top-10 in the Tour/Vuelta doesn't make him a GC rider too.
Anyways, nice day for my fantasy team. |

Sure, he's a decent climber and a good timetriallist, but he's not strong enough to challenge the top riders in GC. And he's more than one level lower than Evans.
As ruben said, he'd probably win a lot more if he, and Rabobank, decided to turn him into a stage hunter instead.

With GC rider I meant "specialized in mountains and timetrial". Not "able to win a GT".

I think tey do see him as a stage hunter - he wins many stages
Rabobank!! -> One of the greatest teams in the ProTour right now!

Still looking at his last year I wouldn't call him GC rider
53rd at Vuelta, 57th at Tour etc. and worse

Had a good laugh at the OPQS crash. That's another way to descent.

Great ride from De Gendt. This must be his favourite race by now.

Great job by De Gendt. Being in a break with 2 man for 100 km, only to leave Taaramae to ride the last 60 km alone, and go for the win in Nice. Excellent by the Belgian. Now we just have to wait...
