It`s the last test before Paris Roubaix for our rider and so we send a very strong team to this smaller race. Maaskant wants his second win after 2007 here but it will be hard as the last third is completely flat and without cobbles. So some sprinters might have advantages.
Favourites:
*** Dehaes
** Veelers, Maaskant
* Boom, Amorison, Traksel
Hoogeveen - Hoogeveen
A flat, cobbled classic around Hoogeveen. We must try to make the race as hard as possible. Otherwise it`s hard to get a victory here against some better sprinters. With Vansummeren, Maaskant and Boom we have 3 excellent options here.
After 20km some riders are in front: Noe (Ceramica), Silva (Palmeiras), Cheula (Rosa), Gutierrez P. (Footon), Bencik (PSK), Moss (Endura) and Scholte (An Post). None of them is very dangerous probably, but you shouldn`t underrate them neither.
The first cobbles of the day. It started to rain and this will be dangerous on the narrow, cobbled roads.
The group reaches the next cobbled part with 7min ahead of the peloton. But there are still 100km to go, so the field is still controlling.
Wilson and Rowe doing once more a great job and set a very high pace un the hope that some sprinters fall back or at least lose some energy.
Maaskant, Boom and Vansummeren don`t have problems at all.
On the biggest slope Vansummeren creates a gap. Boom is following him using the wind shadow of the car. Nobody else is there. Will it be enough? There are still 90km to go.
Vansummeren waited for him and together they do it quite well. They are 1'30'' ahead and behind them the peloton is splitted. Just ~70 riders are following. Especially Quickstep is doing the pace now.
On the last cobbled section they overtake the breakaway easily. But the favourites group is coming closer again. At least Maaskant was able to save lots of energy on these kilometers.
They were in front for 40km, but now on the circuit they are caught. Both of them didn`t lose to much energy and so they are still a very good support for Maaskant.
The tempo is very fast now and so the group splits again in two ~30 rider groups. Good for us that all our leaders are in the first group.
Final kilometers and Vansummeren and Boom are building up for Maaskant. Unfortunately the German Stahr is in front of Maaskant and blocks him a bit.
Everybody was looking on the right side where Hulsmann seemed to be the strongest, followed by Maaskant and Felline, but in the end the other side was way faster and so the two strongest sprinters in the field, Veelers and Dehaes take the first places.
With the fact that we had the strongest team here but no good sprinter we must be pleased with this result. Maaskant on 4 and Boom on 7.

Pretty good result, I think. Without that Max Stahr (who is he?), I think Maaskant had be even able to get a Top3

Paris Roubaix or the "The Hell of the North" is one of the most famous bicycle races in the world and leads over more than 50km cobbles and about 250km in general. The first edition was in 1896 with the German winner Josef Fischer.
Most wins has the Belgian Roger De Vlaeminck with 4 wins between 1972 and 1977.
Result in 2010:
1 Fabian Cancellara Team Saxo Bank 2 Juan Antonio Flecha Sky Professional Cycling Team 3 Filippo Pozzato Team Katusha 4 Matti Breschel Team Saxo Bank 5 Leif Hoste Omega Pharma-Lotto 6 Tom Boonen Quick Step 7 Stuart O`Grady Team Saxo Bank 8 Björn Leukemans Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team 9 Frédéric Guesdon FDJ 10 Manuel Quinziato Liquigas-Doimo
Cancellara won with a typical solo and nobody was able to follow him. We had quite a bad luck as our helpers all couldn`t follow very long and so Maaskant and Vansummeren had to get water on their own exactly when the first attacks started. So a 16th of Maaskant was the maximum.
Garmin team 2011:
Especially Maaskant trained on this race in this year. He improved quite well and so he is our number 1 for the sponsor goal (Top5). It should definitely be possible. Also Vansummeren is able to get a nice result. Boom and Farrar will probably be helpers.

Except of Gilbert, Steegmans and Hushovd all great cobbled riders are participating and should have a good form.
Favourites:
***** Cancellara
**** Boonen, Flecha
*** Pozzato, Breschel, Maaskant
** Nuyens, Hoste, Haussler, Devolder
* Chainel, Vansummeren, Ballan, Langeveld, Leukemans
Of course Cancellara is the favourite. If he has a similar form than in 2010 it should be his second win in a row. But at first he needs to attack as Boonen, Pozzato and Haussler can wait for a sprint out of a smaller group. Same problem for Flecha, Hoste, Nuyens or Maaskant. Saxobank will probably control the race with 2 guys in their squad.
Compiègne - Roubaix
The first half is not that hard but the second one is more cobbled than anything else. The weather forecast says lots of rain. That makes this race even more dangerous and many crashes and punctures are expected.
The peloton reaches the first cobbles. Saxobank and Quickstep are helping them now. Obviously they don`t want to give any breakaway a chance.
Lots of crashes and punctures. There is almost no cobbled section with riders on the ground. At least all favourites seems to have quite a good luck today.
Nobody saw him crashing or having problems. Matthew Wilson just stopped and abandoned. Later our doc diagnosed a femur fracture and so one of our helpers will miss a longer time now. As his next races are Dauphinee, Pologne and the Vuelta he won`t miss any races.
Still 100km and the first bigger split in the peloton. Several riders can`t follow the favourites although the tempo isn`t that high.
Trouée d'Arenberg‎. One of the hardest sections here. 2400m of very bad cobbles. Of course there are some punctures here again. Morkov, one of Cancellara`s helper falls back and will miss in the front now.
Our Garmin riders are very concentrated and ride in the first rows to avoid crashes. Maaskant and Vansummeren has a neutral form, but Boom with -5 has a bad day. Not the best conditions.
36km: A group of 39 riders create a gap. Luckily all 7 Garmin riders are there although Hunter has big problems now as the pace is much higher.
All favourites did the jump into this group, so no surprises so far.
A few kilometers later Fischer, Farrar and Van Der Velde cannot follow, too. All 3 of them did a perfect job today.
So Boom is the last help for his 2 leaders.
Breschel attacks with 26km to go. It`S actually a similar place where Cancellara attacked last year. Some riders try to follow but except of Breschel all are caught by Boonen again.
8km: Breschel already got 1min to the other favourites. Nuyens tries to attack to save at least a 2nd. He won`t have chances against Boonen in a sprint.
Other riders try the same. Haussler, Devolder, Hoste, Leukemans, Maaskant and Cancellara attack, but Boonen is doing a good job and doing a higher pace behind.
Quite lonely Breschel reaches the velodrome and nobody will steal his victory, that`s for sure.
The other attackers are caught again and so the sprint starts. Maaskant has Boonen wheel. A good position for him.
Breschel celebrates the 2nd Saxobank solo win in a row in Paris Roubaix. Everybody was looking at Cancellara but Bjarne Rjis had another tactic obviously.
Boonen won the sprint easily but behind him there was a great battle for the last podium. In the end Leif Hoste had the best legs and overspritned Haussler and Pozzato. Maaskant on 5 has also a very nice result. He will come back in 2012 to attack again.

The Brabantse Pijl is a Flanders Classics held in the region of Brabant in Belgium. Often hilly sprinters are able to win here but also the favourites of the next 3 PT classics use it as preparation. Record winner is Edwig Van Hooydonck with 4 wins followed by 3 wins of Oscar Freire.
Result in 2010:
1 Phillipe Gilbert Omega Pharma-Lotto 2 Ryder Hesjedal Garmin - Transitions 3 Jelle Vanendert Omega Pharma-Lotto 4 Sergey Ivanov Team Katusha 5 Vladimir Efimkin Ag2r La Mondiale 6 Pierrick Fedrigo Bouygues Telecom 7 Johnny Hoogerland Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team 8 Bert De Waele Landbouwkrediet 9 Jerome Pineau Quick Step 10 Nicolas Roche Ag2r La Mondiale
Garmin team 2011:
We send a very strong squad here to prepare for the Amstel Gold Race. Hesjedal and Kessiakoff will be our captains as they have the best form. Sanchez is a nice backup.

Leuven - Overijse
A very hilly race but nevertheless there might also be some sprinters in the end. The field is not that strong to make the race very selective. In fact our squad is the strongest squad by far.
It took 50km before some riders were able to set a successful attack.
Janiszewski (CCC), D'Hollander (Omega), S.Davis (Palmeiras), Jègou (Bretagne) and Gnezda (Adria).
In the first half of the race An Post for Roelands and Acqua & Sapone for Failli were making the most work. As the break had a too big advantage Zabriskie and Peterson were doing the pace.
Gnezda couldn`t follow his mates and so he felt back quite early. Totally exhausted he will try to come into the time limit.
The rest of the break are still 2'15'' ahead with 37km to ride.
Immediately after the group was caught the first attacks of some favourites. Jakobs, Huguet and Bakelands attack with 28km to go.
Under our control all of them are caught again. Now Failli increases after Hesjedal rides to the first line protected by Kessiakoff.
On top of the hill Hesjedal attacks and Failli can`t follow. Also Kessiakoff is able to hold the 3rd with a small gap to the field.
Nobody could catch both solo riders. So Hesjedal celebrates another win in 2011 and shows a good form for the next classics.
Unfortunately Kessiakoff was caught and so a 6th of Sanchez and 7th of Kessiakoff are still very good.

Thanks to all.
The Amstel Gold Race is a hilly classic around Maaskant. It`s named after the Amstel brewery. Since the finish is on the Cauberg in Valkenburg the race is normally won by the best hilly riders. Before that there were less hills and a flat finish, so many sprinters were able to win this race, too.
Record champion with 5 wins between 1977 and 1982 is Jan Raas.
Result in 2010:
1 Alexander Kolobnev Team Katusha 2 Rinaldo Nocentini Ag2r La Mondiale 3 Damiano Cunego Lampre-Farnese Vini 4 Ryder Hesjedal Garmin - Transitions 5 Philippe Gilbert Omega Pharma-Lotto 6 Sergey Ivanov Team Katusha 7 Kim Kirchen Team Katusha 8 Paul Martens Rabobank 9 Alberto Contador Astana 10 Juan Jose Cobo Acebo Caisse d'Epargne
First four were able to get a small gap after the last climb, so they had a advantage on the final climb. Unfortunately Hesjedal was weaker in the sprint but a 4th was quite good for him actually.
Garmin in 2011:
It`s the same squad than in the Brabantse Pijl. Hesjedal will be our leader. Kessiakoff or Sanchez will be our backups, but they also have to ride for him. Everybody else is just a helper as they have other races where they can ride on their own.

* Ginanni, Kirchen, Rodriguez, Nibali, Vaugrenard
Next to these riders there are still lots of big names here like Menchov, Kreuziger, Ballan, Vinokourov, Chavanel, Flecha and many more. But a Gilbert in top form will be hard to beat. Hesjedal must try to break out again on some of the last climbs. Otherwise he won`t get a excellent result in the final uphill sprint. Therefore the field is too strong here.

Good win with Hesjedal, let's see if he can do the same in the Gold Race.
