Phinney is a great rider, and more all round than any of the other TTs there.
??
Looking at the top 10, I see several guys who can also sprint (better than Phinney) orclimb (which Phinney can't)

Well, i don't know much. I was just guessing because of his results this year, (we don't get coverage of U23 races). And he is pretty good on the track. It was more just a comment to say Phinney deserves his gold medals, but he's lucky he got that one today. |

Being good on the track helps him with time trial and to an extent sprint attributes. He did win the Olympia's Tour yes, but there were a few races where, having won or been up there in the prologue, he either crashed out of contention, or quickly got dropped on the climbs.
Very unlucky for Dowsett - beating Phinney at the first check - but then a mechanical issue, with the only spare being a road bike, ended his hopes.
A successful night for Britain nonetheless though, Emma Pooley won the Womens TT.

So...elite men's TT.
I wonder if Martin's form is good.
If it is, I sense gold. If not....Cancellara as usual.

At least there wont be any chance of Larsson drafting Cancellara this year.

Pooley was 50/1 (51.0) with the bookmakers ouch!
Phinney was 11/10 (2.1)

My money is on Cancellara for tomorrow. I don't think Martin is up to it this year but in the next couple of years things will be very interesting. |

To clarify: I'm looking at this from the "Cancellara looks quite spent" point of view.

Agreed. Either Cancellara's recent uncertainty over competing at the Worlds was brilliant mind-games, or he's unsure about his form. If its the latter, we could have a very interesting contest! |

It`s 5 a.m. CEST this night to Thursday.
Don`t know exactly where Norway is in comparison to Germany. So it might be -1 hr.

Norway and Germany are both in the same time zone. One hour in front of the UK.
And I resisted the temptation to make a "brits live in the past" joke.

About the U23 TT, I can only say that the Phinney's gold was well deserved. A bit disappointed that Nelson missed the bronze by a couple of secs. |

I disagree. Durbridge had to ride on wet roads. Phinney not and he still was only 1 second faster. But that's cycling. |

Phinney had worse wind conditions than durbridge, the seconds he made on the corners he lost on the straight.

I think wet roads costs you more time, than wind when you're on a parcours. |

Not to mention that riding in the dry negated Phinney's biggest weakness: His bike handling skill (or lack of).
