I got a SMS from a friend asking what the hell was going on at Saxo. At that time, I had no idea, but of course I had to check.
Can't say I'm surprised. Kim Andersen has pretty much been hinting this forever. He didn't deny the rumours a few months ago, and he's continually been saying that he isn't necessarily 'bound' to Team Saxo Bank or Riis.
So, a new Luxembourg Pro Tour team with Kim Andersen as team owner and the Schlecks as captains. Interesting.
I still think that Riis Cycling will continue. Question is what level it will be. It'll still be Pro Tour, but I doubt that it'll be as strong as now.
I, as Jacknic, hope for a Danish-led team. That'd be fun |

Jalabert says that given that doing the Vuelta is so much better preparation for the Worlds than anything else, he's not selecting anyone who doesn't ride it.

I also forgot: What's the odds that Scott Sunderland is also involved in Kim Andersen's project? |

Unfortunately Jacob Fuglsang is hinting that he will follow the Schlecks to Kim Andersens new team. That would be a pretty dumb move imo.
Edit: What crue wrote just below.

Another thing: Bjarne Riis has commented on it, saying that he can't see a Luxembourg team without the Schlecks. He also says that he's no longer negotiating with them: "We've been talking, but it doesn't seem like we'll reach it (an extension)".
So, expecting a Danish team led by Jakob Fuglsang? Think again. Riis says that he's also likely to leave - probably also for Andersen's team. |

Go André Steensen, new team leader!

Look on the plus side:
He needs a much smaller sponsor commitment now, to finance the team
(The monster contract he gave Cancellara's still hanging, of course)
Look on the even more positive side: If he sods off it can only be good for clean cycling.

I any case it will be a win win situation for Danish cycling here and now. In the long run I'm not so sure.

If Team Saxo Bank folds, how will this be good for Danish cycling? |

On short term it will mean that the best Danish riders can maybe find teams where they are not just super-domestiques. In the long run however it will be horrible as Saxo Bank drives the talent developement and assures major exposure in the Danish media.

In other news, although on the same subject, Riis is negotiating intensely with ISS, a Danish Facility Services Group company, according to tv2sport.dk. |

Jens Voigt for captain for his last year
Obviously Fuglsang will join the Luxembourg team, too. So there won`t be a real danish captain for Riis.

... and apparently also GN ReSound which is the Danish copy of Phonak
"ReSound is part of The GN ReSound Group, one of the world’s largest providers of hearing instruments and diagnostic audiological instrumentation which in turn is part of GN Store Nord"
Correction: The negotiations with ISS have ceased.
