This is the last opportunity for sprinters to win a stage until the last one. Cavendish is looking for his 3rd win but with a perfect lead - out from Vigano and Flecha, Boasson Hagen might be able to stop him
Koldo Fernandez was the biggest name from a breakaway of 3 riders. But they didn't even manage to last until the only categorized climb of the day, where the riders from the pack fight for the KoM points. Nuyens has now 8 points, same as Cancellara but the Swiss will be wearing again the KoM jersey tomorrow
Sky did an amazing job leading our train. But Freire managed to get a better position than Vigano and Hagen as he was right in Flecha's wheel. Except Freire only Kolobnev, Mazzanti and Velo were able too keep it up with us, but only because they were relaying in the pack
With 2 kilometers left from the stage, Freire took the lead from Flecha. Vigano had real problems keeping it up with Freire so Boasson Hagen had to go away from the Italian's wheel. Eisel and Cooke were also coming quite fast, while Cavendish was caught behind with Farrar in a slow Garmin train
Hagen managed to take Freire's wheel in the last kilometer but it was almost impossible for him to get pass the 3 times World Champion. Behind them Flecha, Vigano, Eisel and Cooke were fighting for the third place, while Cavendish seemed to have got away from the Garmin trap
And Freire takes the stage win in his Pro Tour leader jersey, which he got after winning Santos Tour Down Under. He was followed by 3
Sky riders: Hagen, Flecha and Vigano. Even though Cavendish finished only 7th today he will still be wearing the leader's jersey tomorrow in the Montelupone stage

Valverde won yesterday the queen stage of the race and consolidated his yellow jersey. Looking at today's route it suits even better him so the Spaniard is again the main favorite to take the stage win
After many attacks and attackers, only 2 riders managed to get away from the pack, Boonen and Ballan. The former World Champion was clearly a stronger climber than the Belgian Champion so when the hard climbs of the day started he had no problems leaving Boonen behind. With a lot of points in his pocket today, Ballan became the new King of the Mountains. But his adventure ended quite soon, with more than 35 kilometers he was caught by a pack lead by Cofidis and Caisse d'Epargne
On the last categorized climb of the day, Wiggins and Gerdemann were in the front as a result of their attack from the previous climb. But right before the top of the climb they were caught by a large group of attackers. Valverde and Contador weren't there but Joly, Anton, Kirchen, Chavanel, Moreno, Le Mevel, Fedrigo, Armstrong and Vande Velde were
On the downhill they split into many groups and while Wiggins was brought back in the pack, 3 Frenchmen got in the lead and started the last ascent of the day in front: Chavanel, Joly and Fedrigo. The last one was the only one with a stage win so far in this year's Paris - Nice and also the best placed in the GC
With the pack more than 2 minutes behind them, Fedrigo has a nice chance to become the new leader of the race. But it looks like he won't get his second stage win and it will be between Chavanel and Joly for the stage win today
Chavanel was really fast in the final meters but it was too late to stop Joly, who lead the sprint from the start. Fedrigo lost 4 seconds in the last kilometers but he's still the favorite to take the yellow jersey at the end of the day
Valverde even got away from the pack in the last kilometers of the stage in his try to defend the yellow jersey but it was too late. Fedrigo is the new leader of Paris - Nice, with a lead of 50 seconds over Valverde! Wiggins finished in the pack today and he is now 29th in the overall rankings
Stage

Here it is, the Montelupone stage the first important stage in Tirreno, which should also mean the last day for Cavendish in the leader's jersey. Cunego, Pozzato, Gesink and Gilbert are the main favorites. It could have also been a stage for Frank Schleck but after he more than 23 minutes in the previous stages there are some serious doubts about his current form. For us Lovkvist should be at the top for us and he might also have the chance to gain some seconds in front of Cancellara before the TT
There were quite a lot of escapes. But the only one that was able to hang on in front of the pack until the first Montelupone pass was Pierfelici. Other important names that got away from the pack today in the main breakaway were Bozic and Fran Perez
On the first pass on Montelupone, Devolder made the first move from the pack. He was quickly followed by Gesink and Flecha, plus some other important riders such as Feillu, Cancellara, Nocentini, De La Fuente, Gilbert and Garzelli
They all managed to make a quite a big gap between them and the pack but they didn't stay all together. Flecha and De La Fuente proved to be the strongest and joined Pierfelici in front, while Devolder, Cancellara, Gilbert, Gesink, Nocentini and Bertagnolli were in the main chasing group
On the foot of the last ascent, Pierfelici lost the contact with the leading group while Flecha made an acceleration to take a small gap. With Pierfelici gone, Devolder and Cancellara joined the group, while Gilbert and Noncentini were also coming very fast from the chasing group
Before the last kilometer it looked like it's going to be a fight in 4 for the stage win. Flecha was leading followed by De La Fuente, Gilbert and Devolder
Inside the last kilometer, De La Fuente took the lead from Flecha, whit the Spaniard also loosing the second place to Gilbert. Even though it looked like a fight in 4, Devolder is no where at the moment, while De La Fuente seems to have made the decisive move there and got away from the other 2 opponents
And it's an amazing win for David De La Fuente, who also becomes the new leader of the race! Flecha took the third place today and maintained his second place overall, while Lovkvist was the fastest guy from the pack and managed to catch some of the attackers and sneak into the top 10. But after De La Fuente, the big winner of the day seems to be Cancellara, who lost less than one minute today and tomorrow he will be looking to gain more than that in the time - trial
