Yeah, they're really amazing, although they can be very dangerous if you're not good bike-handler and can't react quick, as I almost slipped few times today.
Strava looks like absolutely great application. Personally, when I see all of these rides from the guys I followed, it gives me even more motivation. Now, I only need to figure out what are the real (Strava) names for some of the guys around here.
My Strava name is Thomas Voets, but I think you already follow me if you are Admir Mujagić

Yes, that's me. By the way, look at the last post of previous page, I would really like to get answer on that one.

That's more or less what I'm usually doing, as no one is probably using Strava from my town.
But what are the KoM's in Strava, actually? How to "get" them and what do they represent?
If you take a look at my ride just now https://www.strava.com/activities/1354.../135495386, or most other strava rides, you can see various segments below the map and profile.
Anybody can create a segment over any bit of road - flat, climb, downhill, whatever. Strava records your time over that particular segment and puts up a symbol if you have recorded one of your Top 3 times over that segment.
I like to use them to compare against previous times I have ridden that segment - I usually make a point to ride hard over a few segments on each ride - but you can also compare yourself against other people. And if you are the fastest of everyone, that makes you the KoM.

I'm wondering why people in the daily group actually follow me (Shonak, fernando I think and some guy I have no idea who that is) you would be able the see the feed of the daily group anyway (I mean that's what I'm doing)

I also had a question about PB's and this helped me to understand it better (it's from Aquarius):
If you don't achieve a top-10 or better you're not rewarded the first time you pass somewhere. But pass again and you'll be rewarded for the "second best time" there (if you were slower).
If you really want those trophies, edit your first ride to "private", then to "public" again and you'll get them.

I prefer to have it on the starting side of strava by following people because I rarely go to the group itself.

Found an easy way to get a Strava KoM - create a segment on a bit of road that nobody has ever recorded a ride over before
Or just ride faster through already set up segments All I say with setting up segments is attempt to make them interesting with something like a really steep section of road or a cracking little sprint, it won't take long for others to come and find them and pinch the KOM and then you have a local rival to compete against. I have a few soft KOM's that I didn't know were there and I have a couple of really strong ones, some of the ones I like are where I have got into a top 10 or top 3 in a segment of 3000+ riders, that's when I know I have been going fast...
As anyone here who is in the Stava club would see my average k's have been well down the last 3 weeks, this is due to bad health and some bad luck but I still have been hitting 5000 vertical which is something, just snuck past 100,000 for the year Looking to have a solid week this week and then really let loose the week after. The poor health also cost me a top 50 in the Velobici Spring Classics Challenge, think I finished mid 70's finished something like 20th in the climbing section and also meant I finished 3rd overall in the Glory Hunter section. So no prizes for me which is a pity because I'll never be able to afford there kit.

Same here. No offence to people who I don't follow back, but as I check PCM.Daily's group more or less each time I go on Strava's website or check the app, in my case there's not much point following X or Y in particular. |

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can keep cycling fit during my injury layoff? I have Plica syndrome (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plica_syndrome) in both knees so have been told to avoid exercise likely to aggravate it, which means no cycling, running etc. Just wondering as I want to be able to get back on my bike as soon as possible, and I'm trying to avoid being horribly unfit. |

Seems like a bunch of you bring your smartphone with you on rides - how? Do you attach it to your bike, or? |

My brother bought a piece on which he can place his smartphone. It goes around his steering wheel on the bike.
Only problem is his battery doesn't live long enough using GPS on his rides, he can go for 4 hours
Would be great if future bikes would have a dynamo which loads your smartphone while you cycle |

I just put it in my wind-jacket pocket when it's cold outside, or in back pocket of my cycling jersey when the weather is a bit better.

Firstly, steering wheel? What is he riding!
Secondly, Solar Power! You can get small solar chargers for phones. Mount the phone on the bars, plug a solar charger and away you go with limitless energy (or at least 50% more power depending on the charger unit/conditions/etc.)

Firstly, English is not my native language. You know exactly what I mean, so why should you bring it up?
Secondly, yeah, that's possible |

Don't think I'd personally be too comfortable with. One crash, bye smartphone, I guess. |

I used to have a special waterproof phone sleeve, but that got lost. Now I just use a simple small plastic bag and slip it into my jersey pocket. It protects it from rain and sweat. Cheap, simple and no need to buy any fancy bike mounts or holders.
