The problem I have with pause at 0 is the gps wandering now and again - I'm stood still and the unit thinks I'm riding at 1km/h or takes forever to pause or some such. Tend to find 2km/h works best for me- i.e. it pauses soon after I stop.

You got unlucky there! I am still nervously awaiting the first puncture on my bike, which at a guess has done 1500-2000 miles now. I'm not going to be very good at fixing it when it does happen - so just hope it happens close to home!
Yes, bad luck indeed. I've given up on the idea of ever being able to efficiently change an inner tube...
Seems less painful to me to choose a decent puncture resistant tyre, keep the tyres well inflated and typically get 3000 km puncture free without worrying about constantly carrying a repair kit (which I'd only make a balls of using anyway).
Granted when it does finally go I need to employ the train pass/legs/mobile phone or (if I'm really lucky) conveniently located Googled bike shop but to someone with sausage fingers and the manual dexterity of a walrus they are all easier options!
The issue may have been that the tires weren't properly inflated at the time...
Fact of the matter is that I found at least three holes in the inner tube. Pretty sucky start to life as a pro
Couldn't be bothered to patch it, since it's obviously ruined and of questionable quality, so I'll pay a visit to the local bike shop (who I the very same day - today - just paid 135 EUR to fix my other day-to-day bike (okay, my girlfriend's too)...) and ask for a new one that's more resistant. |

I don't think I've punctured since I bought my new set of tires. I bought them ~9 months back, and I've had no issues. I can sincerely recommend Michelin Pro 4s.

Big thanks to Shonak, just joined the Strava group. Will start recording my rides from this point.

I'm going to try using a third-party app, as Strava doesn't have an official Windows Phone app. I'll join up too, should the uploads work.

See if Endomondo works - I use that on Android as I found it more reliable than the Strava Android app.

So far as I can see, it doesn't have a direct upload, but I'll give it a try.

Basically with Endomondo, once you end a 'workout' (as it calls it) then that gets uploaded automatically - or as soon as your phone has an internet connection.
What I then do is go on the Endomondo website, download the GPX, and upload that on the Strava website

Endomondo worked flawlessly for me on a Windows phone before I got a Garmin.
Just select a ride on the Endo site then click on "more options" - export to gpx followed by going to Strava - upload - upload directly from computer - select the file wherever you saved it and you're done.

So, earlier today i used strava for the first time. The ride got off to a bad start when i couldn''t shift gears properly, and it took about two minutes to go from the middle ring (not sure what the correct English term is) to the big one. Tolerable though, because i'm pretty much used to it taking a while at the start now.
Then, on the first sector i had picked out, i was making good time, when suddenly: roadworks. Nevermind, i thought, i wasn't going to finish on the podium of the sector anyway, losing another place or two isn't a big deal, when suddenly: More roadworks! This time i couldn't even get through, so no sector time for me at all.
Still, i could live with that. Then i rode a bit until i found the road i needed to get to, but obviously i had gone too far, because i couldn't find my turn, and was completely lost. So i just called it a day and turned home. Should still have been something between 15 - 20km, I was oit for about 40 min. But then i come home, upload the ride from my mobile, and what do i see? Strava only recorded a small part. 3 Km, to be exact. Very fucking annoying, especially for when i'll be doing longer rides it's not looking great.
Rant over.

The same sort of happened to me the first time I used Strava. I wasn't sure whether I should keep the phone and the app on, or if I could or should put it in sleep mode, so I tried to keep it on, in my pocket. Somehow I must have turned it off and only half the running session was recorded.
Turn the phone to idle once you've launched the recording and wake it up when you're done with your ride, that should prevent it from happening again. |

That's why I switched to Endomondo for recording my rides - the Strava app kept shortening my rides, and missing out sections. (As well as regularly crashing)

Well, I "just" recorded my first Strava ride this morning, too.
For some reason, pause button refused to work, so I got additional 15-20 minutes on my final time 1h 49m, which I am happy with considering I am riding heavy, wide and winter-wheels , sort of MTB (Polar Apache) bike. Actually, that ride was totally unplanned. Me and my friend just wanted to do some casual ride around city, but finished in nearby villages. Most of the ride was on some kind of macadam, but much, much worser. I swear guys, I rode on cobblestones, this is much worser. https://prntscr.co...
I am riding all my life (which is so long ) and I never, ever was this exhausted. It's probably because I woke up in 8am (just not usual thing for a teenager as I am), but I could say these hills were at least somewhere 12°-13°, very short but whenever you try to jump out of your seat, your tire stuck or slip on these rocks.
Anyways, after finally climbing for an hour (from some 10th to 15th kilometer - look at the profile) without having a shit where we are, we saw a road and we somehow managed to set our highest speed (around 60km/h) there on the downhill. We just made a circle and came home.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. Here is the link of the ride: https://www.strava...es/3824042

These two Apps help as well:
GPS Keeper Lite
https://play.goog...&hl=de
- Before you activate strava, you activate the GPS keeper. This keeps the signal activate no matter what.
GPS Status & Toolbox
https://play.goog...gpsstatus2
-This one helps to "clear" the cache sorta. I don't understand it completely but I once read on strava that routes can get messed up with previous ones and that "clearing GPS information" now and then, like once in one or two months, helps. It's not so important for cycling but it's actually quite useful for running, where you cover less distance.
On another point, why already try to break KoM and segments on the first day? Strava helps with your training most when it motivates you. Fighting against segment and concentranting on them is (at least for me) not very motivating at all.

Looks like a nice ride you had there admir, and great picture too. Exhaustion is the way to go and shows you're doing it right. I'd love to ride more on such roads, they can be lots of fun too, even without a MTB.

Yeah, they're really amazing, although they can be very dangerous if you're not good bike-handler and can't react quick, as I almost slipped few times today.
Strava looks like absolutely great application. Personally, when I see all of these rides from the guys I followed, it gives me even more motivation. Now, I only need to figure out what are the real (Strava) names for some of the guys around here.

Found an easy way to get a Strava KoM - create a segment on a bit of road that nobody has ever recorded a ride over before

That's more or less what I'm usually doing, as no one is probably using Strava from my town.
But what are the KoM's in Strava, actually? How to "get" them and what do they represent?
