Double Feature | THE END
dienblad
Nice to see that Stetina dedicated his first of 2 wins to me, in a parallel universe Pfft

And at least you tried..... 3rd is looking to be in the pocket now!

With a relatively lighter schedule Willy can be good in the Giro-Tour double.Catalunya-Trentino-LBL-Giro-Tour and Willy will be very good in both of them.
Personally I like to do this with climbers like Andy Schleck for examle..In Giro go for stages and KOM and in TdF for GC.

PCM rulezz - I know. For once he regains time and it doesn't count Frown

Jesleyh - He's on fire Grin

alex valceanu - Thanks. Though the schedule will be pretty filled then. It'll depend on the WC profile, too Smile

dienblad - Well, Stetina has the gift to look into other universes Pfft 3rd seems secure and is nothing to be ashamed of!

krisa - Thanks!

romaniangoat - It's definitely something to think about! But that's for next season!

Thanks for all the support! Sorry for the speed at the moment, got nothing to do for a few days and really want to wrap up that Giro, get another win with Van Gent Grin

Giro d‘Italia - Stage 19

Preview

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1901_zpsdb58f52c.jpg

Stijn: Last mountain stage. I will prepare for the next two stages. I have two more chances here, I want to grab at least one!

Willy: Winning the Giro is out of the picture, but I want to leave holding my head high. I will attack.

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

Not much I can say about today. Except: our team is much better when it doesn't have to defend a jersey. Tiernan-Locke in the attack today.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1902_zpsd11cd39c.jpg

Oh, and Stetina went in the attack halfway the stage, too, trying to bring home the KoM jersey!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1903_zpsa3f5a4eb.jpg

Oh, and guess who was another attacker?

Willy Wouters

Right over the highest summit of the day, I threw myself downhill. I must admit I was inspired by Eddy Merckx going down Col d'Allos in 1975. Let's hope I survive the final mountain better, though.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1904_zps2edf7526.jpg

Then it was a strange thing. At about 15 km from the finish, this was the situation:
Tiernan-Locke --- 5' ---- Stetina ---- 3' ------ Wouters ---- 1'30" ---- Peloton

Three leaders, three Garmin riders. And it got stranger, we all came together at one point.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1905_zpsb856862f.jpg

I can go home with my head held high after all. I take the win and that's four (4!!!!) Giro stage wins here. I'm happy.

Aftermath

Okay. Not bad. Even if a breakaway should succeed tomorrow, Stijn will probably regain his Points Jersey in the final stage, which will make him happy. Willy did his utmost best and finishes third, he can be proud of it.

Two stages remain in our Giro-debut.

Schedule Update

Given the fatigue, Willy decided not to race Critérium du Dauphiné after all. After the Giro, he will take a week off and then start training. He will be out of competition for at least a month. He might participate in the National Time Trials, though.

Until tomorrow,
Stijn & Willy

Great win for Willy! That'll cheer him up!

Good win for Willy, never give up is the message he sended to the world Wink

All in all a successful tour for Willy. Hoping Stijn can finish off strong.

Daggen
Great!

Ian Butler
Jesleyh - Sure has Grin

PCM rulezz - That's true. Keep fighting until the end.

sutty68 - Thanks, 3rd is pretty good, actually Smile

krisa - Indeed. Try to get that one now!

wogsrus - Let's see about that right now Wink

Daggen - Thanks!

Well, found out why the many wins lately. After a race in single-race mode I forgot to put it back to Hard (raced on Normal). It's corrected now, though Pfft But, hey, sometimes winning a lot is just too much fun to care about it.

Giro d‘Italia - Stage 20

Preview

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro2001_zps63c1eff5.jpg

Stijn: A hard stage. After 20 stages, I wonder what's left in my legs. This Giro has taught me to ride uphill in ways I never imagined.

Willy: First priority is to protect my podium. Second priority, I will try to lead Stijn over the final small - but extremely steep - hill.

The Race

Willy Wouters

Most of the race was just about taking it easy. Be careful in rainy weather, but taking it easy all around.

Stetina, the man of four attacks in four days, went in his - probably last - breakaway and seized the mountain jersey. How happy can a guy be? Great for him!

Stijn'll tell you the rest.

Stijn Van Gent

As soon as the mountain jersey was secure, I put the team to work.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro2004_zpscb8ad92d.jpg

And then OH MY GOD IT'S SO STEEP. Willy dragged me up the hill, I thought I was dying.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro2005_zps77613032.jpg

Over the hill and Willy turned up the gas. For a skinny fella, he sure has a lot, a lot of power. 11 of us even created a gap, Machado was behind!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro2006_zps5785d785.jpg

I was soo happy with his victory, I opened up and looked up to the rain, it felt so good! Garmin with a stunning 11 victories at the Giro here, if I count correctly!

Can I make it 12 tomorrow? First, let's check for the Points and the time gaps!

Aftermath

With a flat stage left, Stetina is sure of his jersey. Stijn should take home te Points Jersey and can score a sixth giro stage. Imagine 6 stage wins, that's probably never happened since Freddy Maertens in 1977!

We'll see you then, this is amazing,
Stijn & Willy

PS: Also notice the first Italian dropped to 6th after the unexpected gap!

11 out of 20 so far??? Come on, this is dog shit.... Think Garmin has discovered the secret of Sky's training programme..

Still, great racing both stages with WIlly and Stijn!
