So today I was feeling like I ride like Philippe Gilbert. Dynamic, forceful, beautiful in some way. That was a great feel. Of course, not even close to the same kind of speed, but just the way I sat on the bike and stuff like that. It's weird because I usually feel more like Mancebo and Froome (friends and dad say it looks more like a Wiggins-style of riding though). Do you guys can relate your style of riding to a Pro?
On my home roads (cobbles, short hills and flats) I often get the remark I ride like Van Keirsbulck or Boonen. Sounds logical to me, I'm quite tall and heavy (1m95 and 82 kg) and I do love those cobblestones.
On longer climbs I'm not sure who I ride like, maybe Valverde, Basso or Costa or something like that (not even sure they look alike). I often change between sitting and danceuse, but I'm not really suited for those long climbs (see lenght and weight ).
Cycling isn't a sport, it's a passion.

I have the Snowdonia National Park about 30miles away from where i live, lots of single track road climbing and very steep as well
Not too far from me then Sutty, I am only a train journey away from Snowdonia and only rouhgly 20 miles from the Welsh border. Such a beautiful country to go Cycling.

I think I'd go crazy living in the Netherlands. I'm a meagre 1,67m and 58kg so it's safe to say I'm a climber. How do you cope only riding on flat roads?
being 1,73m and 70 kg
it makes the hills/mountains feel extra special
I could not handle living in a flat country it would just drive me CRAZY as a cyclist, I should enjoy them being 167cm and 79 kg but i'm a climber through and through.
@Shonak Next year I will happily fly over and PCM it up at some of the mentioned events.
On the climbing subject I am going to attempt my second Everest https://www.everesting.cc/on Friday night/Saturday, this one will be completely different from my last one for several reason 1. I will be attempting it after a monster 14 hour + shift at work the day before 2. The "climb" is a change from the last one I did, this one is only a block away from my house on this little backstreet https://www.strava.com/segments/665442...er=overall It is only 200 metres in length with a vertical gain of 16 metres each lap, it should take me 554 repeats and 221.6 k's to pass the magic number of 8844 elevation gain. This one will hurt and I certainly have things stacked against me this time but this challenge is not meant to be easy

I'm still young, I live in Portugal by the shore and I ride in the beach almost everyday with very strong wind in a cheap BTT, and it's very flat.
For who knows the Porto shore, alongside the river there are very steep and short hills, but they are far way, I prefer making 20-30 Km, because I have a hill(not very hard) coming to my house and I time it to see if I am getting better. But I am getting used to making 40 Km and I still have to gain knowledge of the parcours before I can ride it, because making 40 Km here is making a little bit of a circuit.
I am 1,71m and 60Kg, I think that I have a profile for a climber, but it really sucks to live in an area without mountains because I think that I can ride better in the Mountains and Hills than flat terrain.
Comparing myself to a cyclist, probabily Vincenzo Nibali, because I am very agressive in the final hill(going into my house) when I ride with someone, and I have some quality descending.

did a 90km ride for the first time today and I came to the conclusion that I'm not strong enough to handle those kind of distances finish completly broken but satisfied. I did try to do 90 km rides before but back out and did 60 because a freezing headache and rubbed sun block in my eyes (yeah I did that )
however my ego got some huge boost this week, thursday my docter said that my muscle skeleton was really good for cycling (I don't know what this means however, I'll just roll with it ) and today I was being told that I actually have the body to be a real cyclist like I said: ego boost |

Why didn `t you race 7 kms more? I thought you had a deal with Luka Mezgec about those 100 kms.
It's also nice to hear that you are so freaking perfect.
... damn, so drunk. Wish me luck for my last 40 km of the week.
@Shonak Next year I will happily fly over and PCM it up at some of the mentioned events.
If you do that strydz, I'll welcome you with some fine, huge bottle of beer and the biggest landmap of Europe I can find.

I'm not sure how much you usually ride, but 90 km is a long effort for people not used to them. With experience and training you get used to them and they pass easily, but I'm sure that even those among us who do very long distance (rjc, strydz, buschwackers, etc.) would struggle to do their first 90 km if they remained, say, 6 months off their bikes. |

Nope, Strava is the app for most of us.
If I ever needed to be reminded how average I am on a bike... A kiwi from Sojasun espoir, who participated in Circuit des Ardennes, went full steam on one of the longest climb in the neighbourhood, where I shared the KOM with another guy.
From 3:51, the KOM dropped to 3:21. Power figure : from ~390 W (me, about 73 kg) to ~480 (no idea of the weight, probably a little below 70).
Now that's one KOM I'll never get back, I don't think I could ever go below 3:40 there, even with a tailwind and a form peak.

Sweet!
Have been considering buying a road bike for about the last thousand years, but somehow i never got one. But given how much fun i've been having even just riding to the supermarket, nevermind going on actual rides, i might have a proper look now.

Nice looking bike, enjoy!
Heavy legs here today after yesterday's ride and was unusually quite stiff soon after, plus had an elevated heart rate for an extended period afterwards too. Can only think that as little as 9 days off the bike over Easter (plus a bit of festive related excess ) was the main reason as the ride wasn't anything exceptional.
I could've eaten and drunk a bit better but amazing what seemingly even a brief time away from the bike can do for someone who only rides a couple of times per week anyway!

Bought a Cube LTD Race 29er last September at Mantel in Arnhem. Costed 999, normally 1249. They have pretty low prices, just look at their website.
But it depends on what you want to do with it. Stay in the Netherlands, and a hardtail will do it. But go to the Ardennes or the Alps and a fully is better.
Do you go for technical routes, then consider a 27", but when you go for high speed routes, then consider a 29er.
Probably the best money-quality goes to Canyon, but you can only order them online, not in a bikeshop. I bought a Cube, because it featured XT & SLX, as well as a Rock Shox Reba front fork, and I liked the look of the bike.

Thanks, I'd say it's fairly technical, but also has some flat sections in it. Mostly sandy roads so not that much of a speedy route.
That Cube LTD looks absolutely beautiful by the way!
Another question is, is it smart to adjust it to personal needs? I mean to adjust the bike so it fits you perfectly with optimal power you can get out of it. I hope you know what I mean . |

Adjust it: well, you can ask the local dealer to replace a SLX derailleur by a XT one, if you mean that. But when you choose a bike with a pretty good group, you can always change some parts later. I wouldn't do that with a 1000 euro-budget.

Awesome looking machine well done
I just put some money down on a new bike to replace my Tcr Advanced which I am selling to a housemate. The new bike is a Fondriest Tf3 special addition, it comes with Ultegra 11 speed so might swap it out for a spare 10 speed grouppo I have. My main bike will still be my TCR Sl and I am trying to keep my collection down to 2 maybe 3 bikes but it is hard to do
