Double Feature | THE END
romaniangoat
I think in the next mountain stage if Willy has a good daily form you should use all or nothing as tactic(something like Andy Schleck on Galibier 2011).Willy care just for victory.Second, third or 40th place have no relevance for him.

Don't looks good at the moment, don't give op yet Willy Frown

2 options: defend the 3rd place, or no guts no glory, and attack a lot!

Not defending. I hope you will attack a lot

sutty68 - Still a few more chances and we intend to grab them!

Jesleyh - Thanks Wink

romaniangoat - Thanks for the advice! Though Willy's still young and a podium is also great for him, especially in his debut-Giro!

PCM rulezz - It's strange. Uran and Machado are too strong here.

dienblad - I'd go with the second option Wink

krisa - Will try to!

Giro d‘Italia - Stage 17

Preview

Stijn: My Points Jersey is in real danger. Nothing I can do about it here. I think I need to perform really well in the last two stages!

Willy: Over the Stelvio and far away. I really need to gain time, urgently. I will attack as much as I can.

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

I had a nice chat with Stetina yesterday, and we came up with a plan! To protect my points jersey, to put pressure on Uran and for personal glory, Stetina decided to attack today!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1703_zpsabc1973c.jpg

When Astana picked up the pace, I dropped out but arrived well inside the time limit.

Willy Wouters

I watched Uran closely. He has an amazing poker face, though. Couldn't read his plans.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1705_zpsa6097488.jpg

And then it was time to attack, near the summit of the Stelvio, I attacked!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1706_zps8118148a.jpg

Unfortunately I got caught fairly soon, descending. As soon as we hit another climb, I attacked a second time!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1707_zps58fc3bb0.jpg

It had punch... But not enough. They returned and I was drained of all my energy. It was an all-out attempt and it failed.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1708_zps68652162.jpg

Silver lining of the day: Stetina with an amazing, amazing victory! Well done, well done!

Aftermath

Well, it's getting tough. For the first time since we've signed contract, Garmin does not know what to do. Everyone's got their hands in their hair. Uran and Machado seem from another planet. What can we do?

Peter Stetina: I wish to dedicate this victory to the DS from Petronas (in that parallel-cycling universe), who's leaving the sport after an amazing few years. He really lifted this sport to another level and he will be missed. Thanks!

See you tomorrow, for a hilly stage,
Willy & Stijn

Stetina with a great victory!
Trying to defend the points jersey with either Stijn or Willy(depending on amount of mountain stages left), seems to be an okay option.

It's getting harder and harder to get the win. Still 3rd, is good.

Good race from Stetina and a good try form Willy, too bad it didn't work Sad

Stage 17 already!? It looks like I missed a lot or Willy and Stijn are just doing 5 races a day. Wink Good to see him top 3. He should be able to defend it.

Ian Butler
krisa - Indeed. He's got great skill so this win means a lot to him Wink

Jesleyh - One more hilly, one mountain and two "flat". I think the game plan is to defend 3th place and Points Jersey with Stijn.

Miguel98 - 3rd is okay, to be honest. The win was always ambitious, but 3rd in the Tour and 3rd here, that's good. Maybe next year the Vuelta 3rd? Pfft

PCM rulezz - Well you have to try, right? Wink Machado and Uran are just so doped Pfft

wroblitz - 5 races a day, that's probably it Grin The podium should be defend-able, thanks Wink

Willy really has to ride like his life depends on it Wink

kadtagenero
I have mixes feelings, its a shame for willy he couldnt be strong enough to fight with those "aliens" but un the other hand, seeing Sergio and Rigo up there its great, i hope this could happend in real life, stupid sky with its stupid leaders weaker than those colombians, go on Ian!

Jakstar22
Come on Willy

Ian Butler
sutty68 - Only two chances left, but he'll try!

kadtagenero - I see what you mean. Maybe Willy just has to be patient for another year to get his first GT win Smile it's obvious he should get a GT in his life, "when" is the only question!

Jakstar22 - He's trying Wink

Definitely more racing today!

Giro d‘Italia - Stage 18

Preview

Stijn: Usually I'd say I should survive that final hill, but after 17 stages, I'm pretty tired. We'll see.

Willy: I'm feeling a bit better already, maybe today I can really do something explosive!

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

Stetina went into the attack once again.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1802_zps6b96881b.jpg

On the final hill, I hung on, which is a good sign. I wasn't able to compete for a sprint, but I was right there! Since the one-but-last stage is also very hilly but with a flat finish, I hope to do well there.

Willy Wouters

Astana still looks very in control this late in the Giro.

Brilliance two days in a row as Stetina takes a second stage win. We're all very happy for him!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/giro1805_zps18d04bbe.jpg

I attack right before the summit and take quite some time in the descend.

Aftermath

Only three stages left. Too bad about the time difference being washed away by the jury. But then again, we fear it might be too late anyway.

We had a talk at dinner and came up with a nice plan for next season though. Well, not really a plan, it's not certain yet, but it's a nice idea. Maybe we could both try to race two Grand Tours next year. We could switch ambitions in both tours. One tour: Stijn going for points jersey with team build around him. Willy only going for a stage win or two. Second tour: Willy going for GC, Stijn only going for stage or two.

Just an idea. First concentrate on the remaining stages here!
See you tomorrow, for the final mountain stage,
Stijn & Willy
