Did you ever try climb 1000m in 13 kilometres after 20 days of racing? :-P
The race will be what the riders make of it. Last year they climbed 1363m in 17.3 kms, followed by 1300m in 12.4km after 20 days of racing.
You know what the time gaps were? Zero

If you think the one over Passo Gavia and over Mortirolo, there was no uphill finish at this stage ;-) |

Vesuvio won't make any difference.
But stages like today or monday are perfect stage for one GC contender to be dropped or trapped.
The Giro will be won on Monte Petrano I guess. Because if Menchov or Di Luca make big gaps, Leipheimer won't be able to regain the time in Roma.
But I don't really think Di Luca will be able to stay with Menchov or Sastre on Monte Petrano's stage. He was too on form during the first 10 stages.

Do you really think that a guy like Leipheimer is able to attack and make gaps on mountains stages, against guys like Menchov, Di Luca, Sastre, Basso ?

Leipheimer should be happy with a podium there
As I said he lost time where it was suposed he will win and that aren't the mountains where he could lose his place to Sastre or Pellizotti/Basso.

There were many attacks on the Mortirolo. No time differences over it.

Attack? yes. Make gaps? sure, against Di Luca, and maybe even some of the others. Just not likely against Menchov.
Leipheimer's chances in this giro are slim

No need Juan..that Biathlon can drive you absolutely mad with that Astana hype..Hell , he is with all strongest teams with any sport..
Anybody else..just not Levi. He is nice person ..but is in the wrong team.
Can you imagine cycling without Bruyneel and Armstrong..sounds like bless |

It will be Menchov who is going to be happy with a Podium while Levi is on the top of with the Maglia Rosa

40 seconds in 14.4kms? No chance.

In fact, I was mainly speaking about Leipheimer being able to attack Menchov and make a gap to him, which I doubt is possible, and I put other names of guys that are better climbers than Leipheimer (even though Di Luca won't be on great form anymore i think)

This two are Giro biggest idiots..teammates. They can be strongest duo on tour but probably will fuck this up ..with rivality. |
