Not a bad tour in Portugal. Stage win with Goss and the podium with Hesjedal. Well done!

+ 1 and this last sprint with Goss was awesome. What a huge gap, bad luck with Pedersen surviving the break Wink Nice race-summary.

You took a stage win and managed to stay in 3rd I think Hesjedal has done what he's able if he wants to be in top form in the Vuelta.

mowinckel91
Really enjoyed the racing in Denmark. Was hoping for a full report, but with so many races on the program i don't blame you Grin Looking forward to the vuelta!

Thanks all.
Portugal was indeed just preparation. So it was nice to have some good results.

@mowinckel91: Actually I preferred to make full reports of all races. I have done it in general in the first season. But the problem now is that PCM11 is coming soon. I`d like to finish this season quite fast and then jump to PCM11.

RaydoN
At the moment this is the best story by far....great job.

Freue mich schon darauf eine pcm 2011 story von dir zu lesen!

roturn
Thanks a lot. Nice to see new readers. Wink

My PCM2011 story will be the same actually. I plan to make a DB with these transfers and limits. Hopefully this will work out.

MitchNL
Great podium with Hesjedal. Do you already know which riders are going to ride the Vuelta for Garmin?

DJP19
Great podium. I'm sorry I mention this, but when you say a rider "felt" back, it should be "fell" back. I keep noticing it, but never mention not wanting to be correcting(I always do it to my friends). I just want the reports to be right, otherwise great story.

roturn
Thanks for the response. Nothing wrong to correct me.
I`m quite sure that my grammar isn`t 100% correct everytime, but I am willing to learn. Wink

@MitchNL: Hesjedal and Rojas will lead there. Other rider announced later.

Tombola
Great podium for Hesjedal, a shame he missed 2nd at a few seconds. Like Goss missed the second stage win.. Still you could be very pleased for a "preparation" before the Vuelta!

The Vattenfall Cyclassics is the only big Pro Tour race in Germany. It`s a one-day classic for sprinters in Hamburg. Most difficult point is the Waseberg, which must be ridden several times with slopes over 10%.
Several big sprinters have won this race like Zabel, Freire, Farrar, O'Grady, McEwen, Napolitano and Cavendish.

Napolitano is known as a great sprinter. But he never really had his break through. This obviously changed with the win in Hamburg last year. Farrar again with a nice result.

Actually I expected some trained riders for this race but our leader Farrar isn`t in a good form obviously. That`s quite a shame as I planned to win this race.
So Felline, Fischer or even Dao will look for their chance.
I must have planed this months totally wrong it seems.

It`S a pretty flat sprinter classic. But with 11% in average the short Waseberg climb can be a problem for some of them if their is a high pace.
Riders like Cancellara or Sagan might hope for this case.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/Vat-2.jpg
12 rider in the breakaway. Normally they aren`t successful in these classics, but you never know. Also always nice to present the sponsor.
Biggest names here: Vandevelde (Nutrixxion), Gadret (Ag2r) and Kirchen (Farnese).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/Vat-3.jpg
HTC with most work in the peloton of course. They have the fastest man, so they have to work. Plus they have to potential winners with Greipel and Cavendish.

Sorry for the big jump now. Totally forgot to make screenshots on the Waseberg for example.
But actually nothing serious happened except of some crashes of helpers.
On the Waseberg Farrar and Dao struggled but always came back.
Fischer and Felline with less problems but also less sprint skills.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/Vat-4.jpg
With 3km to go there are still 3 Garmin riders in a decent position. Farrar, Fischer and Felline are waiting for the start.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/Vat-5.jpg
But it is Tom Boonen with his first win in Hamburg. He wins ahead of Van Avermaet and Greipel in a very fast sprint.
No chance for our riders unfortunately as they lost all their energy before the sprint or not good enough in sprints.
So Felline`s 14th still the best from us.

Thanks. Not even sure if it is a GTC on the right. Could also be a Topsport rider, but haven`t seen this before to be honest. Wink

The Eneco Tour of Benelux is a road bicycle racing stage-race held in August and leads through the Benelux countries. In general it`s a race for time trialists with a few puncheur qualities. So Jose Ivan Gutierrez is the record champion with 2 wins. Tom Boonen has the most stage wins with 10, 4 of those in 2010.

Cancellara won last years Eneco Tour due to a great final time trial. So he overtook Chainel successfully. The young French won the 4th cobbled stage out of a breakaway with ~2min ahead of the peloton and had the lead until the last day.
With Sanchez and Bobridge we had good time trialists participating but both of them are weak classic riders, so we couldn`t expect much of them. Even better that both of them were in the top10 in the end.

Lars Boom is quite perfect for this race. So he is our leader although his form could be a bit better actually. But more important to have him in a good fitness on the last stage. A very deciding time trial, where you can win or lose the Eneco Tour.
As in the previous year Rojas Gil is preparing here for the Vuelta a Espana, his big goal for this season.
Kreder and Fischer will be great domestiques on the hilly stages, while Dao, Rowe, Meier and Wilson are concentrating on the flat stages.

** Van Emden, Hushovd, Pozzato, Bonnet
* Lövkvist, Cornu, Flecha, Breschel, Gutiérrez

Without Cancellara in the startlist, Boom is for sure the big favourite but depending on his form on the hard and important stages. Rosseler and Langeveld already were in the top 10 last year and are also good bets here.
But maybe a sprinter can gain bonus seconds to survive the last time trial like Boonen did in 2010? Hagen wasn`t really in form at the moment and Hushovd, Pozzato and Bonnet are big question marks.

Boom already lost some time today unfortunately. Especially Rosseler and Langeveld are looking great. But also Hushovd and Ballan, who was a big surprise today, will go for their chance.
Meier therefore with an unexpected 10th today. Great ride by the Canadian.

Anonymer
20sec seems a lot to me on only 5km for Boom to loose, but I guess it won't really matter with the cobbled stages and the longer itt coming up - good luck here, in my carrer I won eneco twice with Boom Wink

Thanks. Not even sure if it is a GTC on the right. Could also be a Topsport rider, but haven`t seen this before to be honest. Wink

It's a Topsport. That's the finish of the 2009 Belgian National Championships, with Gilbert being the Lotto rider and the Topsport, Goddaert. Wink

As for the race, Boom could have done a bit better. But there's still a cobbled stage and another time-trial, in which I think he can gain time. As for Meier, nice top-10 for him. Smile

Shame in Germany but better in Eneco. Though Hushvod might get some bonus time in sprints and Hagen also with good TT might be your closest rival. Gonna be tougher than I thought, but Boom is much more than capable of winning here.

Thanks all.
@ Anonymer: Boom has no big form yet, so these 20s are indeed quite a lot. On the other hand it`s just 8s to the 2nd. Rosseler seems to be in a really good shape.
@ FreitasPCM: Then my eyes are still fine. Wink Boom will give everythign now and hopefully finishes with a good form in the final time trial.
@ Alakagom: Hushovd isn`t as good as in the start of the career but still a threat with a fitness peak. Boasson Hagen wasn`t very good in Pologne and so I think his fitness could be quite low at the moment. In the sprints I hope for Cavendish or Rojas as both of them aren`t good time trialists and might lose time in the cobbled stages.

I forgot to mention that winning Eneco is one of my sponsor goals. Wink

Eneco Tour - Stage 2

A pretty flat stage today. But not as easy as it looks like. The finish is a 1,5km uphill section. So the favourites must take care not losing time there.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-2.jpg
14 riders in the break. As last years edition shows it`s very dangerous for the peloton with such a big breakaway. Biggest names here Veikkanen (FDJ), Kennaugh (Sky), Belletti (Liquigas), Zingle (Quick), Beppu (RadioShack) and Ghyllebert (An Post).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-3.jpg
Actually none of them is such a danger as Chainel last year. But nevertheless there are 14 riders in the group and so we can`t allow a big gap.
Rowe and Wilson are taking care that the maximum advance is never higher than 5min.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-4.jpg
With 65km and 4min left our riders can relax. Astana for Davis and HTC for Cavendish are doing the work now. This two are also big favourites today although I am not 100% sure about Cav`s uphill skills.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-5.jpg
Meanwhile the group reaches the finish for the first time. The hill was even harder than expected.
Just 1'36 left for them. So the peloton will probably catch them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-6.jpg
5,7km to the line the last riders are back in the peloton. Perfect timing today. With Kreder, Fischer, Boom, Rojas and Dao we still have 5 riders for this hard sprint. 3 sprinters and 2 puncheurs with good sprint skills are looking promising for a good team result.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/ET-2-7.jpg
Bun it`s Lloyd Mondory, who wins the stage today. On the last meters he overtook Cavendish, who started the sprint early. Also Davis was a bit faster in the end and becomes 2nd.
Best Garmin rider is Rojas as 9th ahead of Boom. Not that bad in the knowledge that both of them aren`t peaking at the moment.
But more important in the results. There was a split in the end. Two favourites already lost more than 3min today: Posthuma and Boasson Hagen. Obviously they aren`t in a good form.
