Well guys looks like I must be racking up the k's as I am currently sitting 18th overall in the Velobici spring classics comp https://veloviewer.com/challenges/vbsc.../vbscc2014, sitting 7th overall in vertical metres and am leading in cups gained. I have no hope at all at topping the leaderboad but would be pleasantly surprised if I finish in the top 50
Nice work, you're on to Paris-Roubaix already! Two weeks in and five rides for me and I'm yet to finish Milan-San Remo...I'm glad it's not snowing this year. |

I survived my epic 36 km ride with the Sojasun espoirs guy.
He did two ~20 seconds acceleration in the only hill we went through, which I didn't try to follow (I'd have pathetically blown up).
Then he humiliated me at a town entrance traffic sign, in a 15 seconds sprint with headwind. My legs weren't really responding and my chain somehow jumped, yet he claimed he only passed me thanks to the drag (he passed so easily that drag or not he'd have win fingers in the nose). I'll get him next time.

Yeah.
Honestly we spent most of our time chatting. I was amazed how much he knows about Watts. Obviously he didn't know how to turn them into VO2, but that was about the only thing I knew that he didn't. I suppose it's better to know your basis when you're using a SRM though.
He very much doubts he'll make it to the pros, especially after the pro team folded.
He knows a lot about many amateur riders, which made it for some great chats.
Also his trainer is a former track world champion from New Caledonia, but I had no clue he had become a trainer, let alone one for road riders.
I'm supposed to ride with him again one of these weekends, when he'll be off racing. |

of course.
I'm thinking I foud some sort of elevation (more then to usual 0 )
turns out Strava doesn't count it as elevation
but I found out that is actually the track of a cycling team and itn's not any other cycling team, it is actually the beginning team of the 1980 Tour de France winner, the 1985 World Champion, the 1979 Vuelta a España winner and a winner of Olympic Gold in 1968
maybe I should start thinking about joining I mean I'm playing soccer right now but the result of that is that I'm getting injured every wednesday and sunday to be recovered on Saterduy and Tuesday
edit: challenge of the day, who is the rider I mean

Yeah, I stopped playing football regularly because I just had enough of ending up with bruises, pains in the legs or even worse. It's just not worth it. Not worth it all.
Still suffering from a foul a few weeks back and running turned into a true pain, like I found out today. Should visit a doctor one of these days.

I tried riding to to university the other day. 33km of headwind with a relatively heavy backpack and a temperature of about 3C. When I was about half way there I realised I forgot my regular shoes at home so I walked around all day wearing only socks, and when I looked out the window during lecture it was snowing! Luckily it stopped, so the ride home was surprisingly pleasant.
How hard can it be?

Well Done!!! It is always a nice buzz landing in a top 10
So a update on the Velobici Spring Classics Challenge. I am currently sitting in 27th place overall with 1355.4 k's and 14th in vertical gained, I am still leading the Glory Hunter part of the challenge with 774 cups with a 146 lead, I wasn't aiming for topping any of the lists but seeing that there is a prize up for grabs for topping any of the tables I might have a go at the Glory Hunter. Here is the leaderboards and it is amazing some of the k's these cyclists are putting in https://veloviewer.../vbscc2014
Hells 500 Crew and 6 x Everester
Don Rd Launching Place
Melbourne Hill Rd Warrandyte
Colby Drive Belgrave South
William Rd The Patch

How on earth are you getting so many PR's - nice work. I'm top 200 now for elevation and finally on to Gent - Wev |

@ianrussell
I have no idea but I blame my Everest ride, I came out of it in good condition and climbing well so when I head out to the hills I am picking up PR's all over the place
On the Everesting subject, I am looking at attempting to Everest another climb over the Easter weekend. Melbourne Hill Rd in Warrandyte https://www.strava.com/segments/106766...ender=both, it is a climb that is close to home so makes organising things a little easier but it a would be a different challenge compared to my last one. Each ascent I would only gain 66 vertical over 1.3 kilometres, so to get to the magical 8,848 metres I would need to do 135 repeats which would shake down to 351 k's. I don't need to do any extra work as I have not backed off my cycling since the last one so all I need to do is maintain my current level and hope the health holds up.

@Strydz once is an accident, twice madness! Leave some climbs for the rest of Australia
(Very) Casually checking what I would have to do on my favourite climb = 70 odd ascents and about 350km... |

Experienced my first hunger knock today. Went for a 98km road ride, was all alone, and with most of the time head or sidewind Beaufort 3 (yes, the wind was turning that much that only the last 20km were tailwind, believe it or not ) and not eaten enough before I started the ride, I was dead empty with still 30km to go.
Luckily I passed a gas station, which sold some sandwiches. I didn't know that a simple white sandwich with cheese can taste so delicious!!!
Anyway, I was refuelled a bit for the last 20km with tail wind, managed to ride home wit 32-35 km/h.
Lesson learned: eat enough food before the ride!!

Eat food while you ride, yes.
That's the part I find funny when doing long rides, past two and a half hour or something like that, you start to weaken quite visibly, motivation goes, etc. eat a little bit then it acts like a magic refill and everything starts working fine again. Until 30 or 40 minutes later the same happen and another refill is needed.
I beat my longest ride ever today (still ~200 km shy of Strydz, but I've given up on beating that distance ), I had done that much a couple of times already, once in September, and another time or two in 2000, but that required two ride a day. The wind was a huge factor, but I believe effort management was decent as I'm not totally knackered.
Constant nose bleed after the first hour (not a huge flow but still) was annoying though. Must quit EPO. |
