Zuri Metzgete
There was a breakaway but they had no chance against the pack today
The first attack on the last climb of the day was made by Popocyh
Kirchen and Valverde, the big favourites today, waited a few moments and then made their moves
On the final downhill Kirchen, Ricco, Cunego, Valverde and Popovych are the first group
No one is looking like going to attack and it could end in a sprint now
But they are caught by a second group, a small pack
Now Dekker, Bertagnolli and Wegmann, all of them from the second group, are leading
Wegmann is in front, with Valverde after him, trying to consolidate his Pro Tour lead
Valverde couldn't beat Wegmann as the German was just too strong in the final sprint and took the win
Results
1. Fabian Wegmann Team CSC - Saxo Bank 6h34'37
2. Alejandro Valverde Caisse d'Epargne s.t.
3. Thomas Dekker Rabobank s.t.
4. Damiano Cunego Lampre s.t.
5. Leonardo Bertagnolli Liquigas s.t.
6. Rinaldo Nocentini AG2R La Mondiale s.t.
7. Kim Kirchen Team Columbia s.t.
8. Stefan Schumacher Gerolsteiner s.t.
9. Davide Rebellin LPR Brakes - Ballan s.t.
10. Riccardo Riccò Saunier Duval - Scott s.t. |

Paris Tours
This was a hard day with lot of rain and wind. Somehow 3 AG2R riders managed to get in the days breakaway
With 30 km to go Hoste and Geslin went away from the pack, trying a knock-out
Devolder, Valverde and Boonen are after them
Burghardt is pretty close as well, while one of the AG2R riders still hangs on
15 km to go Geslin and Hoste still in front, with 20 seconds advantage over the chasers and almost 2 minutes in front of the pack
Hoste is caught on the last uphill of the day. Now with Geslin alone in front, Burghardt makes his move
He catches Geslin...
But they don't stay together for too long as Burghardt wants to do everythin by himself
Only 5 km left to ride and Burghardt is in front with a pretty good advantage
Geslin and Boonen are in the second group, while all the others were caught by the pack
Boonen starts sprinting in his way to catch Burghardt
And he made it, but Marcus is putting in all his energy left for this one
Burghardt hangs on and he gets his first victory in 2 years!
With Valverde caught by the pack and finishing out-side the Pro Tour points, everything is going to be decided in Lombardy. Also Kirchen was one of the first guys in the pack so he won some points today over Valverde.
