welker: In deed. Still haven't figured out how he won the sprint though, but as long as he does I suppose that's ok...

Marcovdw: Yeah, the minion(s) are back Grin

Dwars door Vlaanderen

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-1_zps4f9e4791.jpg
The first cobbled classic of the season for us.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-2_zps13c7173b.jpg
Veikkanen follows Butler of Nissan, but the attack isn’t given many chances.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-3_zps271cb90b.jpg
Vacansoleil and Dirk Grepdon Wanzele keep things together on the first flat section, so we stop attacking.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-4_zpsd828bc0d.jpg
When we started hitting the cobbles I told the guys to start putting on some pressure.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-5_zpsb49a5a54.jpg
With 40 km to go 5 decent cobblers have 3’30’’ to the peloton where no one seems to want to help us.

So Matti decides to go solo and successfully bridges the gap.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-6_zpsa654325e.jpg
With 25 km to go he is in front with Baer while the rest of the favourites come in small 2-7 rider groups all over the route.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-7_zps3fb9ac25.jpg
On the penultimate cobbled section Baer cracks and Breschel is left alone in front.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-8_zpsf4d40785.jpg
8 km from the line Matti has half a minute to Langeveld, Waytens, Devenyns and Baer.

Devenyns, Waytens and Langeveld puts in a massive effort to catch Breschel 5 km from the line.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-9_zps12345dee.jpg
The question is if they have used too much energy on the chase…
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-21-Dwars-10_zps2896916f.jpg
And the answer is yes!

welker: In deed. Especially since riding like this with early attacks will most likely be his role in the big cobbled classics while McDermott will ride more defensively.

Marcovdw: Cool

Totally Great performance from Matti Grin

Atlantius
Ian: You didn't notice the name of the guy Jussi went away with? Wink

sutty: Couldn't agree more. Always nice to see the rainbow jersey win - even though it needs a proper wash by now...

Something have just come up so I won't get around to reporting E3 today. I have raced it though and it was some brilliant and exiting racing Wink

The Rider
Matti is nailed as one of the best classics riders in the world now, surely. Grin

With a great last few races including Milan San Remo and a great win here although I think you are being a bit generous by classing 'Dwars van vlaanderen' as a classic. Wink ...maybe!

Atlantius
Ian: It is, but an honourable mention to the family name none the less.

Miguel: His second win here (also won 2010) so he really likes it!

The Rider: He's still lacking the BIG cobbles win though.
I think it's fair to call Dwars door Vlaanderen a classic considering that it has been raced since 1945 Wink
Not a big classic, but a classic nonetheless.

Great victory! Hope it'll be even better, especially for Breschel in his WC jersey.

Atlantius
MrUfo: Time will tell, but looking on the stats we have to be creative to beat Cancellara, Boonen, Gallopin & Co.

E3 Prijs Vlaanderen – Harelbeke

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-1_zps383cc594.jpg
First big cobbled classic of the year. Last year Hushovd won it with an early attack – similar to how it was won two years ago, so we will try to keep that in mind during the race.

We have a lot of underdogs, but for them to have a chance we need to force the big dogs to work early on.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-2_zps74e40db0.jpg
Commonwealth Bank – GreenEdge keeps things together early on in service of Boonen. Just as planned...
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-3_zps4edbc85e.jpg
Jens Erik is in the break along with some no good cobblers at the first cobbled section. They only have little over a minute to the peloton.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-4_zpsab356f9d.jpg
With 100 km to go a few good cobblers including Hushovd have bridged the gap to the break.
They have just over 4 minutes to the peloton

Madsen does some good work for Hushovd in the break and with 70 km to go they have 6 minutes to the peloton.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-5_zps1233c1d4.jpg
Going into the final 55 km things are looking brilliant for us. Thor and Jens Erik are still in the front group. 4 minutes behind them are a group of 10 riders including McDermott, Breschel and Boasson Hagen.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-6_zps8f8637cd.jpg
Thor pushes on in front and with 35 km to go he is the best looking in the break 2’48’’ ahead of the favourites group.

25 km and 2’10’’
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-7_zps588cd222.jpg
In the favourites group Matti, Eddy and Erik can watch Boonen and Gallopin doing a lot of work.

With the gap down to 1’30’’ with 19 km to go Thor tries to go solo.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-8_zpsdbbb2d50.jpg
Cancellara has taken things easy all day and he decides to attack with 18 km to go. Our trio is right in his wheel.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-9_zps7b640dd0.jpg
10 km from the finish Thor sees Sagan blasting by in front.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-10_zps71542bf8.jpg
Things are brought back together and with 4 km to go 28 riders form the front group. Breschel is having heavy legs, so we go all in for setting it up for Edvald.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-11_zps1516f32d.jpg
With 1,7 km to go it’s Cancellara being chased down by Van Avermaet, who has Edvald in his wheel.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/03-23-E3-12_zpsd389a35d.jpg
A huge thanks to the Belgian for providing such a good lead-out and to Erik for keeping things together for the sprint.

Edvald wasn't even supposed to race today, but said he was feeling amazing so he would really like to give it a go. No better way for him to repay my trust!
