Stage 20
Napoli - Anagni
This stage is flat, with only a tiny climb near the end...and then uphill finish. Plaza need to atack..he has 2min. between him and podium (Soler)..he can take something back with TT but this ain't gonna be 2min. Almost impossible mission..
16km. to go..Plaza atack..at least he need to try..
Di Luca follows..this is good sign...best guy to work with..
di Luca is a little to good again..but no worries. Pozzovivo , Carrara..coming..
8km. to go...Bruseghin atack...peloton is close..
uphill..finish. Plaza show is over..not today..
Monfort takes a lead..Garzelli is there..Astarloza..Plaza ..
Last km. Daniele Pietropolli is moving up..Monfort still holding a lead..Nibali
100m. to go..Plaza looking empty and he is fading..
Monfort takes a stage win..2nd. Daniele Pietropolli..3rd. Astarloza..
Plaza is 9th. no time between Soler ..Soler has followed he's backwheel (man in green)
Tomorrow is final TT stage..almost impossible for Plaza to get into podium... Guerra can pass Garzelli in GC tomorrow and should watch out Pinotti..

Stage 5
Plattling - Cham
20 sec. is what Rodrigues will need against..Grivko..weather is terrible. Vitor is in top shape..at least he will try.
Hollenstein, McDonald..getting away from early breakaway. they have a solid lead and possibility that they can also keep it..
when we had about 30km. to go..several riders started to atack..perfect situation for us..Rodrigues just need to pick correct one to follow..
When GC 3rd. man..Gretsch atacked then Vitor follows..under 20km. to go..
Rodrigues at the front of the breakaway group..and working hard..to keep it this way..main group is closing that gap...damn. Did not worked out this time..Rodrigues slowed down..to keep energy for another atempt....
9km. to go..just before main group cought breakaway..Bodnar atack..
..and Rodrigues counter..he is off again..
..No not him..race leader Grivko decided ..this is to dangerous and started to chase Vitor..
5km. to go..he has cought last breakaway riders..20 sec. is this enough if he can take time bonus and Grivko would not get none..
..sprint..Rodrigues passes Reto Hollenstein and going after stage win nr. 3..
Then he looked over a shoulder..and there was Grivko..there go's time bonus plan..
stage win nr. 3..he ride perfect tour..but is not quite happy. 13 sec. short to take overall win..

Wow, what a story. The victories just keep coming. I hope Plaza can still beat Soler. |

Stage 21 (final ITT)
Roma
Final day in Giro..Race planner probably liked to see exitment on the last stage..but GC table is almost complete before that stage. No hugh changes expected..Every rider who is racing today..deserves aplaus. It has been realy hard and long 3 weeks..
World TT champ Grabsch has struggled at the mountains for that stage.. 17..(+46 sec.). He is GC 136 ..and is down over 4'30 h.
Westra started a stage realy well..at the end 32. (+1'06)..Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team has been stunning on this tour..they have been everywhere..at the breakaway ..after climber jersey..with GC riders..great team with hugh potential.
Bak..24. (+55 sec.)
Tuft..he is clearly fastest man at the moment he crossed finish line..at the end of the day..10th. (+29 sec.)
Pate..another strong Garmin TT rider..20. (+52 sec.)
Cancellara ..where ever he starting TT stage..everyone is looking him as favorite..that was not he's day..long GT has taken to much power..9. (+28 sec.)
Devolder started a day has he started a Giro..he was fast, he was active..he was after stage win..he was after KOM jersey.but at the end of the first week..he was gone..dissapeared. Quick step was here with good line up..Boonen got one stage win ..that saved theyr Giro..They was expecting probaby a lot more..18..(+46 sec.)
Kiryenka ..Caisse is weird team..they always have 3-4 riders in the list to hunt top 10 spot..But they realy need a leader..another strong tour for Caisse 8th. (+27 sec.)
another hugh dissapoitment..Fuglsang..was presented has team leader. Saxo bank leader is usualy strong rider to follow and fear..he weared a pink after opening TTT..crashed in stage 3. Was no where near at the top in mountains..this was Giro flop. Only positive thing was ..that he finished he's first GT...I know he is a young a man..and he's best years are still ahead. Today 46. (+1'16)
Tom started Giro realy well was..in top 10. When second week started..he completly "hit a wall" at the climb..climb was not steep..and tempo was not fast yet (even Liberty Jesus, Nozal was able to keep up at this moment)...at this moment..he was just loosing GC places after every mountain stage..today 21. (+53 sec.)
Pinotti..experienced rider rode a great tour..he knows he's limit and was taking max out of it..today he takes another GC spot (it is now 17th...and few sec. short to pass Guerra also)..today 5th. (+11sec.)
Guerra..great tour..he takes inside top 20 spot (16th.)..that is more then enough. Managment can be pleased..they let him ride he's own Giro and did not wasted him to protect team captain Plaza. At the third week..specialy Blockhause stage he was looking already stronger then Plaza..today ..great stage for him 13. (+35 sec.)
Before the Giro I was dissapointed about Katusha satrtlist..but Botcharov show at the last week in the mountains was amazing..he took so many GC places..and landed in 14th. Today was not he's day 105. (+1'54) down
..Bruseghin has been flying in both TT's ..nothing to shame about for Lampre specialy thanks to Briseghin, Spilak and Marzano. Bruseghin today..3rd. (+6 sec.)
Pozzovivo..TT is not he's are..but it has been great Giro for him. He has been great team new captain..active on every mountain stage..atacked first...and is rewarded with GC 13th.
Today TT..106. (+1'55)
Gutierrez..stunning TT again..2nd. place and just 4 sec. short to take a stage win..he is GC 11th. man..
Siotsou and Monford has taking turn for being up there wiht GC riders...we cant forget that Siotsou take stage 4 win..and was on the Giro top climbers..to add Pinotti , Monfort stage win ..then we get great Colubia Giro result..(p.s. without sprinters)
Carrara has amazed me several times..when Plaza was on the limit..this guy had power to atack..before..at the time..and even after. He was one of the Plaza main rivals..
Today 44. (+1 '14)..and GC 9th. great Giro for him..
Garate..he started a Giro as man who will be at the podium and can even challange Di Luca at the mountains..then week later he droped away from group at descent..at the climb..then closed that gap down again.most unstable rider..Today 28. (+1'03)..GC 8th.
Monfort..stage winner and one strong team member from Columbia strong trio..today 16. (+44 sec.)..GC 7th.. i am little surprised to see him that high in GC..he was always there..but same time always like invisible..
Astarloza..when Giro startlist was final..Euskaltel captain was Giro podium candidate for me..he rode both TT ok.but in the mountains did not followed always good brekaways..was always a little to early or to late..today 6th. (+13 sec.)..GC final 6th. was not place what he was looking for..
Leon Sanchez..another Caisse gun..7th- today (+ 20 sec.)..he was best Caisse rider GC 5th. is good result..
...Liberty captain Plaza. Before the tour is was trying to predict he's final GC place..top 10 was nice idea..same time i was ready to accept even with top 15..top 20 place. Why he was succesful..he did not made any tactical mistakes..did not lost any minut with missing some descent breakaways..was lucky because he did not crashed once..had only once technical problems (team helped him out)..was building he's form perfectly. Schock moment was..when after GC and mountain stage he was in 2nd. place. He knew that he will lost some time in mountain..but did not panicked. 3 stage wins already a little to much..
Today amazing final kick 4th. (+7 sec.)...GC 4th.
Soler...was Giro If man..If he would not have crashed..If he would not have missed breakaways..who knows where is would have been. He had nothing against Di Luca..but GC 2nd. would have been issue. today 49. (+1'17)..GC 3rd.
Nibali won both TT stages..and was only man who actualy was close to do something against Di Luca..he missed complety first week..and if tour had been one week longer..then Di luca would have been in trouble. He absolutely destroyed rivals in young rider competition..2nd. guy Chris Sörensen lost 26 min. Today ...stage win. GC 2nd.
Di Luca..this all was so unhuman..he took 8. stage wins (all mountain top finishes)..dominated Giro from start to finish..and took over 13 min advatage over 2nd place holder. I dont have nothing to say..he was to good.
Carlos Nozal - was bring him for first TTT..after that great team mate..who carried most of water bottles. At the end has nice battle between Serov..who will be last man in GC..Blockhause stage was he's limit..and he was outside of time limit.
Isidro Nozal - Managment was expecting him to see at the breakaway to go after stage win. He tried several times..tempo was always grazy fast..that was reality check..
Time trial did not worked out eather as he expected..and flat stage before Vesuvio was he's last..he stoped racing. Small dissapoitment..
Edgar Pinto - Bravo..young man was just great..he was so close to steal a stage win in stage 2. Was a little to weak and unexperienced to fight with Paolini and Boonen in Milano stage.. Finished to Giro..well done!
Broco - I never figured out how he was going..when he was protecting Plaza he was always in trouble at the early phase..When he was riding at the back..then something I was surprised that he was still hanging on even after hard climb and fast tempo.
then he abandoned race..same stage as Isidro Nozal..
Antonio Jesus- This rider is full of surprises..it feels sometimes that he is super strong man..when wind trying to split a pack..when riders starting to drop off at the climb.
He was always last man who was able to carrie water to leaders.. i will give him some race..to go flat out..he deserves it. One positive Giro surprise..
Rui Sousa - I knew he is good pick for Giro when I choosed him..he started a tour has possible 4 or 5 th guy in the team..at the third week he was already nr. 3..always there. Always looking out after leaders..best teammate what you can get for GT.
Nuno Ribeiro - Nuno crashed at the Giro 2nd. and 3rd. day..unlucky start. i thought well ..this is a guy for breakaways and maybe KOM jersey hunter. he failed..after few attempt..and lost more time in innocent flat stages. This guy can do lot more then that.

Great Giro d'Italia. Plaza really was one of the strongest riders there. And also great race tactics. |

I will..only once my story has stoped (i was not ready for continental team then..)
Thinking here..Plaza lost to Di Luca over 17min. this is quite ok-realistic..but what others did? |

Wow, great result in the Giro with Plaza! How is it possible that Di Luca wins 8 mountain top finishes? |

Great Giro result Guido.
What are you going to do about the other GTs? Are you going to apply for a wildcard for them, because im guessing your good riders would be quite tired by then |

I think it is possible at the moment (if I look continental tour rank table) to get TdF ticket.. But no ..I even did not asked it. Vuelta ticket was my pesonal goal and is more realistic..(I planned leaders season peak for Vuelta before Giro invatation)..
Then I got Giro..nice race..why not..
Now they need a break before Vuelta and Tour of Portugal
No Dauphine
No Suisse
No Tdf
just small races.. |
