Either way, Evans blew his big chance. If he was ever going to win the Tour it was this year, and he blew it with a basic, basic, basic mistake.
For years I derided him for racing heavily and getting to the big races dead tired.
In 2007 he said he'd learned from that and raced a lot less. And indeed he got to the Tour in top form.
This year the idiot went back to doing a million races and that cost him the Tour.
He still would've won the Tour without the crash. It's clear the crash severely limited both his climbing and time trialling, but.....it's just stupid to do what he did.
I doubt he'll ever get another chance to win the Tour.
i know and it sucks
it would have had an unbelievable effect on cyclings popularity and coverage here and he had to go and bloody crash..
this was his year.

I think this years could have been a great one for Valverde too, just like in 2007 (Where he crashed).
Personally, valverde gets better as he goes on in a tour. However, he peaked at Dauphine and wasted all his energy on the first few stages. He burned his team up which by far was the strongest and when they came to the crucial parts they where all tired with Valverde and chases were too weak. He had that one bad day that cost him the tour but he got better the week after. If only he hadn't had that bad day. If only... |

When did he crash in 2007?

And Merckx will be the team manager. Bad move by Phinney. People will start questioning him which didn't and wouldn't happen as long as he was with Garmin. |

I also read that if Phinney actually left, then there would be no reserve espoirs team for Garmin. Doesn't look like such a good day for cycling... |

Yes, sorry - it's Axel.
I have to say that I find the anti-doping experiment interesting. Armstrong will be "surveilled" by Don Catlin, just like Damsgaard's program for CSC and Astana. What's interesting is that: 1) He will only keep Armstrong under observation, not anyone else. 2) Don Catlin is one hell of a anti-doping guy. I mean, look at these quotes from Wikipedia:
In 1982, Catlin founded the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory, the first anti-doping lab in the United States. Under his 25-year stewardship as director, the lab grew to become the world’s largest testing facility.
Today he serves as CEO of the nonprofit organization Anti-Doping Research, Inc. (ADR), which he and his colleagues founded in 2005 to bolster efforts to uncover new drugs being used in competition and develop the tests to detect them. The organization also aims to foster education and help establish innovative programs that encourage athletes of all levels to stay clean.
In the 1990s, Catlin was first to offer the carbon isotope ratio test, a urine test that determines whether anabolic steroids are made naturally by the body or come from a performance-enhancing prohibited drug.
In 2002 at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he reported darbepoetin alfa, a form of the blood booster EPO (erythropoietin), for the first time in sports. Also in 2002, he identified norbolethone, the first reported designer anabolic steroid used by an athlete.
In 2003, as a key part of the investigation of BALCO, he identified and developed a test for tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) or “The Clear,” the second reported designer anabolic steroid. Later that year, the Chicago Tribune named Catlin Sportsman of the Year.
In 2004, he identified madol, the third reported designer anabolic steroid, also known as “DMT,” and since 2004 he and his team have identified several more designer steroids.
Today, among other efforts, Catlin and his team at ADR are working to develop an effective urine test to detect human growth hormone (hGH) – one of the most sought-after tests by sports leagues worldwide.
Catlin is Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and he also serves as a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Health, Medical and Research Committee and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission, the two organizations charged with oversight of the drug testing at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
Don Catlin says that the program, of course, isn't 100 % secure, but that this is very close to being it. He also says: "More than anyone, I know how they cheat, and I can guarantee you that Lance won't cheat me!".
So, basically, he's putting his entire career on stake here. |

Well, if Armstrong doesn't cheat, either he'll be crap and will find whatever pretext to stop racing after two one week tours, either he'll find a way to cheat the guy... |

I've been claiming that every single rider is doped, that's certain...

This is about the 3 millionth time I'll say this, and also the last:
You keep saying those things sarcastically, but these are just words on a screen. Many people won't pick up on the sarcasm.
On a side note:
THE WORLD IS BURNING!! RUN!!!!!!!!
