Will do then
Tirreno-Adriatico – Stage 3
Today’s another flat stage – the last one before the GC defining mountain stage tomorrow. Unfortuneately we recieved some bad news at breakfast. Our designated captain for the race, Thomas Løvkvist is ill and it’s not certain whether he will be able to get through the stage. With him out the picture we have no-one for the GC, meaning we will have to chase stage wins. Maybe I will get a chance on of the flat stages after the mountain stage. I feel like I’m getting better and better by the day.
The day started off with a big mountain. Visconti and Rebellin over the top. Prior to that Ulissi had tried to go with them to take the mountains jersey but he couldn’t keep their wheels.
Rebellin left Visconti behind in the descent, but he was inevitably caught with with just under 40 ks to go.
At the points sprint, 15 kilometres from the finish a small group seperated itself from the pack, containing some very big sprinting names. Petacchi, Freire, Pozzato, Van Avermaet, Steegmans and Murro were present.
I tried my best to drive forth Bettini as Ciolek had been dropped during the stage, but I wasn’t to much help although I felt significantly better than the last two stages. The gap between the break and the gap would be nullified, but Freire still managed to take the win. Petacchi will keep his lead though.
But he is going to lose it tomorrow on the big mountain stage. I will settle with staying inside the time limit.

I've just played stage 4 but it crashed when viewing the replay, so as I won't have any screenies or results to post I won't bother reporting that stage. I'll just give you a brief heads up on what went down.
Ricco' won the stage ahead of Di Luca and Devolder, so Ricco is the new race leader. Devolder looks set to take the overall though with an ITT coming up. JAJ finished 18 minutes down, but he will try to get in a break on of the next stages.

Tirreno-Adriatico – Stage 5
Yesterday’s stage was not exactly a flawless performance from us. Løvkvist was our best rider finishing more than 4 minutes back, meaning he now occupies 22nd place in the GC. He should be able to break into the top 20 with tomorrow’s time trial, but that’s a lousy consolation when we thought he would fight it out with the best in this race. Today’s stage is more or less flat so if the sprinting teams can keep it together we should see a mass sprint today. I wanted to try to be in the break today, but as soon as we took off today I could easily feel that being in the break wasn’t the way to go for me today.
Burghardt got in the break for us though.
But they were caugth with 25 kilometres to go.
I struggled again today and I wasn’t much help for Ciolek and Bettini.
Bettini got Ciolek in a great position though.
But Freire flew past.
And took the win ahead of Ciolek.
Ciolek and Bettini has done well in the mass sprints so far, but Freire in that kind of form is hard to beat.

Stage 6
The individual time trial and with only 6 seconds seperating Ricco’ and Devolder surely the Belgian would claim this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico if he gets through the final stage tomorrow. Today is not my kind of terrain but I will still try and go flat-out to see how my legs are. I haven’t been satisfied with my form so far this season and I’m getting a bit frustrated quite frankly.
And my legs were pretty awful.
Stefan Schumacher set a good benchmark time edging out Italian favourite Manuel Quinziato by one second.
Løvkvist did break into the top 20 by finishing a dissapointing 27th 1’12 back. Lars Bak on the other hand did great and took 5th place.
But it was World TT Champion Stijn Devolder who won the stage and took over the leaders jersey.

Tirreno-Adriatico – Stage 7
It’s the final stage and I’m rather pleased with that. My form is getting better but I am not riding any faster than I did a week ago, so I just want to get this over with and try to get some results elsewhere. I know I can’t compete against this kind of competition yet, but the team does also take part in smaller races and I think I’ll be racing a lot in them this year.
Desperate to grab us a stage win, Burghardt joined the BOTD again.
But even with strong riders like Dave Millar, the break had to give in.
With 15 kilometres to go my body was beat and I had to drop off of the pack’s pace. Pretty embarassing.
I am a neo-pro so I need to convince myself I can ride at a high pace for hours a day, so it’s disturbing for me that I couldn’t hold on today. I’m fearing that I will be excluded from the Milan-San Remo team.
Ciolek was in a great position yet again.
But Gert Steegmans came out of absolute nowhere and surged into the lead.
And Steegmans took the final stage ahead of Ciolek, who finished runner-up yet again.
I finished more than 3 minutes back. Not a storybook ending to my first big race for High Road.
I was hoping my next race would be Milan-San Remo, a race I want to win someday, but after Tirreno-Adriatico, I don’t think Holm and Aldag will include me in the team.
Forgot to export – No chances in the GC since stage 6

Maybe it's best if you compete just in the small races, and then just gaining experience in the big ones.
Looking forward to see JAJ in form

Heads Up
My fear was justified. I was in provisional Milan-San Remo team, but I didn’t make the final cut. Brian and Rolf didn’t think I had the form required to be able to do something for the team and they wouldn’t let me ride just to ride.
Instead I’m going to the Italian stage race Settimana Ciclista Internazionale, a race with much less tough competition so I think I can do quite well considering my form isn’t that bad. I also need some results to keep my morale up, because I have to admit that I was pretty down after Tirreno-Adriatico. But I came into that race with the wrong ambitions. I thought I could go in and take a stage win, but I didn’t take the toughness of the race into consideration and just how good the competition is in those kind of races.
I have had some nice workouts with Lars Bak after Tirreno-Adriatico, so I think I’m looking good for Settimana. It’s a race that suits me quite good. A few hilly stages, a few flat stages and a team time trial. I have been designated leader also and that’s a bit morale boosting also. I just want to get underway now.
Also, we won Paris-Nice a few days ago. Kim Kirchen took the overall win edging out Cobo by 7 seconds, so a big win for us. I watched Milan-San Remo at home but no High Road riders were at the front when Gert Steegmans crossed the line ahead of Freire and O’Grady. Also the day after Tirreno-Adriatico, Lars Bak got on the podium in Nokere-Koerse behind winner Lucas Persson and runner-up Nico Sijmens. Bettini, Klier and Hagen finished respectively 4th, 5th and 6th.

Settimana Ciclista Internazionale – Stage 1
I was full of expectation as I lined up with my teammates for the opening stage. It’s a small city course. It’s mostly flat but with a short sharp climb halfway through so it should suit me perfectly. Piva was our directeur sportif for this race and he had told me that I had been assigned the captain’s role. To back me up are Mares, Pinotti, Padrnos, Lewis, Reynes, Hoeben and Hacker. None of these guys are in particularily good shape so I know it’ll be up to me to bring home a good result.
Recieving full support from seasoned riders like Pinotti and Padrnos and I felt quite good. I didn’t really check the startlist for this race and it was a surprise to me to see Lars Boom here. We have had our fights especially over last season, but he is also a great talent and I like to race him. He signed for LPR Brakes during the off-season. Also Jakob Fuglsang is here, so I’ll also have someone I can chat with in Danish.
There were a lot of attacks along the route especially on the small climb, where Boom and Ignatiev attacked on numerous occasions. It was all together for the sprint though and I found myself in a great position as I opened up.
The sprint got too long for me though and a few riders passed me.
One of these was Tilo Schüler of AG2R who took the stage. I crammed myself in between the Liquigas and LPR rider as I took a satisfying 3rd on the stage.
So I will also move to 3rd in the GC and wear the young riders jersey tomorrow on the team time trial. Bernardo Riccio will wear the points jersey, so I’m not actually leading the young riders competition.

Settimana Ciclista Internazionale – Stage 3
After yesterday’s time trial is going to be difficult to break back into the top 10, but the stages in this race suits me very well so I can at least try to catch a stage win. Also I’m beginning to feel great right now. Despite today’s stage being flat there’s a small bump coming into the finish and it could tire some of the fastest sprinters. Last year I won a stage in Tour de Normandie in a mass sprint like today so I think I can do well today.
The break was caught 25 kilometres before the finish.
I had some troubles finding the right train but I decided to slip into Comesso’s wheel when he got himself into a great position.
Tinkoff came fast on my right hand side when I made my move and moved into the lead.
Surely the small hill before the finish had some effect because I found myself in a fight again Ignatiev for the stage win.
We were shoulder to shoulder and normally I’m the best sprinter but surely he is on top form right now. He slowly worked his way past me and he was the fastest on the day.
So close to my first win in the High Road jersey. As a consolation I’m now leading the points competition and tomorrow’s uphill finish will suit me very well with the form I’m in. Ignatiev took over the race lead from team-mate Riccio.

Stage 4
Today’s stage ends on a 4-kilometres long steep hill and it’s a perfect finale for me. I think it’s going to be a real spectacular race today. Not much happened before the finale though. A break went away and it got caught. But with 15 kilometres to go something happened though. Lampre’s Paolo Tiralongo hit the deck in a roundabout and took down a lot of riders, including race-favourites Franco Pellizotti and Lars Boom. Boom had to abandon from the race as a result. Pellizotti wouldn’t make it back to the finale, so my chances are slightly higher already.
But the finish was very chaotic and I couldn’t get myself into a good position as the uphill sprint began (It’s me in the gray jersey).
Some AG2R rider took the lead in the start.
But LPR’s Pietropolli bursted up the steep slope with Ignatiev and Anza trying to follow. They couldn’t though.
Meanwhile I was working my way up and I began distancing Pliuschin and I was nearing Anza and Ignatiev.
Pietropolli took the win though.
Just as the hill got flat I reached Anza and moved past him as I took 3rd on the stage once again one down on Ignatiev, who would defend his race lead as no time gaps were registered.

Settimana Ciclista Internazionale – Stage 5
Today’s another flat one before the final stage tomorrow which is hilly 3-lap course. Today’s finish is completely flat so that’s not to my advantage, but since I’m leading the points competition I want to take part in the sprint to score some points so I can keep that which will be a great result for me.
Today’s BOTD contained 14 riders and we had missed the move, so we had to do some hard work in the pack today.
It was a battle to bring the break back in and especially Pinotti and Padrnos took a big tow for the team during the stage and with 5 kilometres left and with the finish line in the distance the race was all back together.
I found the Colombian Forero’s wheel and I was in a good position.
But Forero isn’t the fastest guy in the pack so a few riders moved past quickly.
Frapporti of CSF looked strongest but Cuccinotta was also in there. Frapporti took it though and I finished 4th, so my lead in the points competition now strecthes to 18 points to Pietropolli in second place.

Stage 6
The penultimate day here in Italy and I need to be up there with the best if I want to break into the top ten and if I want to keep my points jersey because Pietropolli is definitely the guy watch out for today. After the breaks were reeled in it was Pellizotti who made the first move, Pietropolli countered.
I tried to go with the move but I couldn’t get clear of the pack.
There was still on climb to go and it turned out that Pellizotti and Pietropolli only attacked for mountain points so they were soon reeled back in. Me on the other hand had put a lof of effort into my attack so I was pretty tired coming onto the last hill.
Pietropolli went first, then Pellizotti right after. I tried to keep a high pace in the pack to keep them within distance.
But they were too strong and I was tired, so when Ignatiev made his move to defend his jersey I fell back.
Ignatiev couldn’t catch up though and with Pietropolli only 42 seconds down on him in the GC he could lose the race lead here. It would be settled between the two Italian and Pietropolli opnened the sprint.
And he took his second stage win.
Ignatiev finished 3rd, 50 seconds back so Pietropolli has won Settimana Ciclista Internazionale.
I had to finish in 7th to keep the points jersey, but I was too tired in the sprint so that wasn’t going to happen either.
A bit dissapointing but at least I have proven to myself that I’m on great form, so I think I can battle for the win in Hel van het Mergelland which is my next race.
