A little of everything. I want to be able to play PCM 08. I don't play games that often but I sill want a pretty good graphic card so I'll be able to play if I feel for it. I will watch TV on it.
Why is Toshiba shit?

You can get perfectly good Fujitsu and Acer laptops, but they'll cost you! I myself have an Acer, and it has been running flawlessly for three years, and is capable of running PCM2008. It cost me 2500 euro at the time though. Generally speaking, laptops beneath 1500 euro sucks I'd say, unless you ain't gonna use it for graphics (games, video rendering etc etc).
...and Intel may be better than AMD, but in value for money AMD is best imo.

Asus is quite a good brand for laptops actually. |

Intel and AMD are equal now?
And probably ASUS is a good brand? I have no clue! I have an ACER!
My point is, you usually get more or less what you pay for! And when wanting a computer able to handle state of the art graphics, there really is no shortcuts? Maybe you can get nice specs for processor, gfx and so on, but if the other components are crap, then you haven't gained anything. As an example, you can get a 5 megapixel camera, but if the chip "reading" those pixels is crap, you'd get better pictures with a 3 megapixel camera, but with state of the art components. You usually get what you pay for? |

As an example, you can get a 5 megapixel camera, but if the chip "reading" those pixels is crap, you'd get better pictures with a 3 megapixel camera, but with state of the art components. You usually get what you pay for? Generally speaking, that is true. You can't expect a random cheap computer to be better than a random expensive computer.
That being said, all firms do not have the ability to sell their products to a price fitting their performances. I mean NVidia, and mostly Intel are firms that are more powerful than their challenger AMD (either for graphic cards, either for processors). Then there are some brands which will slightly increase their prices just because of the name. At the moment AMD Phenom processors are cheaper than Intel Core 2 processors, but their performances are also weaker. The price may be 15% cheaper (random number here) but the performances will be 30% weaker (also random number here).
There's another thing to consider : some brands increase the prices because of their name. Example : a videocard with the reference design provided by NVidia/AMD. Gainward or Zotac will sell it 300 €, whereas MSI and ASUS will sell it 330 or even 350 €. Of course the box will be more trendy with MSI, but well, it's a videocard afterall, and you don't really keep the package, bundle, etc. once it's been installed.
It's better to regularily browse website comparing devices and components for a good while before you really buy something. |

Yes, of course. Problem is if you want to remain 100% legal and not use Linux, you'll need to pay an OEM version of Windows (which is provided with a shop computer). Unless you'd build a Mac... |

You do know that Windows does release non-OEM versions of their systems right?

Or you could be a former student of a college that has a Microsoft sponsorship and thus get any Microsoft OS for free, as many copies as you want
