USA Pro Cycling Challenge Preview
This year's race starts with a prologue, followed by two hard stages that shouldn't be too selective. Stage 4 is a time trial of 18 km that should be the major GC day. Stages 5 and 7 will be go the sprinters, and Stage 6 will decide the final GC with a summit finish at Breckenridge.
The Team
The team has someone for all the stages, with me here for the GC, Thomas for the TTs, and Ciolek for the sprints.
Full Startlist
I'm the main GC favorite, but I would expect Dennis and Danielson to be the biggest challengers. There are lots of good TTers, with Phinny and Grivko here along with Thomas and Dennis. Ciolek should be dominant in the sprints.
USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 1
Stage 1 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is a 5.9 km prologue in the town of Colorado Springs. I hope to gain some time on the pure climbers.
The Race
American Time Trial Champion Tom Zirbel set the first solid time. The American rode the course in a time of 6 57, and ended up in 32nd place on the day.
Alexander Serov of RusVelo was the first rider to surpass Zirbel. The Russian finished with a time of 6 53, and ended up in 18th place.
Andriy Grivko finished in the same time as Geraint Thomas (who I forgot to get a screenshot of). The Ukranian finished with a time of 6 44.
I felt great in my warm-up and I think I will gain a small chunk of time today on guys like Schleck and Caruso.
I cross the line with a time of 6 47, good enough for 5th place on the day. I gain time on the all good climbers today.
Rohan Dennis beat Grivko with a time of 6 43. Would the time be good enough to take the stage win?
Phinney crosses the line with a time of ... 6 43! Would won? The answer is....
Rohan Dennis! The Australian takes the prolouge and will start the race in yellow!

USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 2
The first road stage of the UPCC is an uphill finish at Mt. Crested Butte. The big difficulty on the day is topped out 26 km in the stage. The last 50 km are uphill and the team's efforts will be split between me and Ciolek.
The Race
The day's break formed half-way up the big climb. The riders: Zirbel of Optum, Schmalz of Hincapie, and Strelkov of Novo Nordisk.
Zirbel barely edged out the others at the KOM point, and will wear the KOM jersey tomorrow.
Shortly after the last sprint point, Deginan, Ponzi, and Gavazzi attempted to bridge up to the break.
With 10 km to go, Ratto has joined the other three at the front of the race. The 7 leaders have a 45 second gap to the peloton.
With 5 km to go, the gap is down to 15 seconds, and Ciolek has come to the front with Thomas.
With 1 km to go, the break was been swept up, and it is a two rider race between Ciolek and I for the stage win.
Ciolek takes the win! I take second as MTN gets a 1-2! Bakelants and Schleck take 3rd and 4th for Radioshack, and places 5-7 are taken by BMC.

Post Race Comments- Very happy with my performance today. Good work by the team to bring those late attackers back, and setting up Ciolek and I perfectly. I think those time bonuses will be come in very handy later in the race, especially in the TT. Tomorrow's stage is classified as MT, but it is more difficult on paper than in reality.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 3
The third stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is listed as MT, highlighted by the climb of Independence Pass. However, there are no climbs in the last 35 km, and I think a late attacker, or a reduced bunch sprint will decide the stage.
The Race
At the first sprint point, there was no break ahead, so I collected some time bonuses to increase my lead.
Shortly after the sprint, three riders got away: Mironov of RusVelo, Cooke of Jamis, and Selander of Optum.
At the foot of Independence Pass, the break was 3 minutes to the peloton.
With 6 km to climb, I place an attack to make the group behind me smaller, and I hope to dislodge Dennis.
I was quickly brought back, and soon after Santaromita launched an attack. The Italian quickly bridged up to the breakaway.
With 20 km to go, Santaromita and dropped Mironov and Selander, and Cooke is the only rider with him at the front. The duo have 2 minutes to the bunch.
With 14 km to go, the Italian leaves Cooke, and his on his way to stage glory.
5 km to go, and Santaromita has 1 30 to the peloton, and the 50 man group will fight for second place.
The Italian takes a great solo win! Will he take over the yellow jersey?
As Ciolek leads the bunch in 27 seconds back, I look at the clock and see 27 seconds, which means the team loses the jersey to BMC. Bakelants takes third, Nerz fourth, Thomas fifth, I take seventh.
Stage Results
1 | Ivan Santaromita | BMC Racing Team | 5h05'27 | 2 | Gerald Ciolek | MTN - Qhubeka | + 27 | 3 | Jan Bakelants | RadioShack - Leopard | s.t. | 4 | Dominik Nerz | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 5 | Geraint Thomas | MTN - Qhubeka | s.t. | 6 | Tony Gallopin | RadioShack - Leopard | s.t. | 7 | Ian Boswell | MTN - Qhubeka | s.t. | 8 | Jasper Stuyven | Bontrager Cycling Team | s.t. | 9 | Janier Acevedo | Jamis - Hagens Berman | s.t. | 10 | Tom Danielson | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. |

1 | Ian Boswell | MTN - Qhubeka | 8h51'41 (1) | 2 | Rohan Dennis | Garmin - Sharp | + 12 (2) | 3 | Tony Gallopin | RadioShack - Leopard | + 18 (3) |
Post Race Comments- I need to go so I will be brief today. I'm surprised at Santaromita's ability to maintain the gap, a deserving win for him. Tomorrow is the ITT, and I hope to limit my losses to Dennis.

Stage 4 is a 16 km Time Trial in Vail. I hope to take the leader's jersey back today.
The Race
Christopher Baldwin of Bissell set the best early time. The American finished with a time of 27 48.
David Millar of Garmin was the first to best Baldwin. The Brit finished with a time of 27 21.
As expected, Taylor Phinney set the best time when he crossed the line. The BMC rider finished with a time of 27 03.
Lawson Craddock had a great day today, and surpassed Phinney's time. The youngster finished with a time of exactly 27 minutes.
Tommy Danielson set a blistering time of 26 33. After Dennis fell short, I was the only one who could beat him.
I couldn't take the stage win, finishing with a time of 26 52. It was enough to take the leader's jersey, with a 3 second gap to Dennis and Tommy D.
Stage Results
1 | Tom Danielson | Garmin - Sharp | 26'33 | 2 | Rohan Dennis | Garmin - Sharp | + 10 | 3 | Ian Boswell | MTN - Qhubeka | + 19 | 4 | Geraint Thomas | MTN - Qhubeka | + 20 | 5 | Tony Gallopin | RadioShack - Leopard | + 22 | 6 | Lawson Craddock | Bontrager Cycling Team | + 27 | 7 | Taylor Phinney | BMC Racing Team | + 30 | 8 | Sergey Firsanov | RusVelo | s.t. | 9 | Dominik Nerz | BMC Racing Team | + 31 | 10 | Jens Voigt | RadioShack - Leopard | + 32 |

Post Race Comments- It is good to be back in yellow! I admit that I'm surprised to have this jersey. I thought that Dennis would do better and take the jersey. I certainly can't complain. Tomorrow is a sprint stage where the team will support Ciolek.

I very angry at PCM right now, I finished editing my database for 2014 season, and I go to create a career with it, and when I advanced a day the game crashed and the save disappeared along with the database. This means that I will have to do the database all over again, which I'm not too motivated too do. I will probably finish the UPCC and then go from there

USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 5
I need to be brief so that I will have time to write up my announcement at the end of this post. Short little sprint stage with no catted climbs.
The Race
Four riders got away within the first 10 km of the stage. They were: Wren of Jamis,
Van der Velde of Jelly Belly, Nankervis of Bissell, and Vermeer of Jo Piels
Those four stayed away until they were caught under the Flamme Rouge by the Astana Train. Unfortunately Ciolek got blocked in by one of the Astana leadout men.
Adam Blythe takes the win ahead of Rasmmusen. Ciolek takes third ahead of Sabatini of Cannondale.

Special Announcement: Team MTN-Qhubeka has asked me to discontinue my blog. As the team leader, I will have more responsibilities and will be more focused on racing and then recovery. I will have little time to post, and it would be low quality reports similar to this one. The final two stages will be the last two stages that I will post as I finish my season.
I hope you understand- Ian Boswell
Spoiler The story is not ending due to time, but PCM problems. As you saw a few posts ago, my database that I spent along time on was lost, and I just don't have the motivation to continue this story and rebuild the database. I will be back soon with something completely different soon-welker

I am sad that Ian will stop his blog. I've liked it very much!
