Oh, I thought riders weren't allowed to do anything with needles? But for Type 1 diabetes there's probably an exception.

krisa
haha Ian

Ian Butler - Type 1 diabetics have to use injections, there is no other alternative Wink

Ian Butler
Well, I'm learning a little more here every day Wink
So I don't know if you've seen Memento, but I guess that's what the woman has. Just she gets too many injections and she dies, probably overdose of insulin.

sutty68
Ian Butler - Have never seen that film, but yes it is so easy to overdose on insulin especially if you take too many injections. I take four injections a day and at the moment everything is rosey Wink

krisa
four injections a day isn't that very much?

sutty68
krisa - Are you diabetic Frown

krisa
no

sutty68
krisa - I know four a day doesn't sound like a lot but when that is everyday you soon realise how much it can be painful on occasions Wink

krisa
yeah I found it was a lot

Ian Butler
It's a hell of a lot Frown
Hope our modern science can find an easier solution some day.

sutty68
Ian Butler - Its a lot better these days than when i was first diabetic believe me Wink

Ian Butler
Yeah? Damn, that seems tough... Always remembering to bring your insulin wherever you go etc.

sutty68
Ian Butler - My insulin travels everywhere with me every single day of my life Wink

Ian Butler
Just a question, say you need 4 injections a day, what if the riders are on a very long ride that day, in a race, for example Paris-Roubaix? Do they have to do it during the race, or is that impossible?

My grandad has gotten a new heart 20 years ago and he has these 25 pills he has to take every day, takes them everywhere, too, if he forgets one day, it could be a fatal mistake.

sutty68
Ian Butler - From what i understand at Team Type 1 they have an injection before the race and throughout it they top up with energy gels, but if there blood sugars go to high they have another injection which is administered by the race doctor Wink

Sounds like a hassle. And Ian. This forum is here do you don't have to go to school. You learn everything here Wink

sutty68
Jakstar22 - There will always be someone to answer a question for you no matter what subject is being discussed Wink

Ian Butler
Indeed Grin
I just think it's great to have someone doing this story, especially someone with the same condition, it gives it a lot of depth, and it gives people the chance to learn Wink
