krisa - Type 1 diabetes has to be controlled with insulin injections and a good diet, where as type 2 only needs a good diet
PCM rulezz - Just hoping that the French riders have a good race in there home Country
Ian Butler - Lets hope so

Oh, I thought riders weren't allowed to do anything with needles? But for Type 1 diabetes there's probably an exception. |

Well, I'm learning a little more here every day
So I don't know if you've seen Memento, but I guess that's what the woman has. Just she gets too many injections and she dies, probably overdose of insulin. |

Ian Butler - Have never seen that film, but yes it is so easy to overdose on insulin especially if you take too many injections. I take four injections a day and at the moment everything is rosey |

krisa - I know four a day doesn't sound like a lot but when that is everyday you soon realise how much it can be painful on occasions |

Just a question, say you need 4 injections a day, what if the riders are on a very long ride that day, in a race, for example Paris-Roubaix? Do they have to do it during the race, or is that impossible?
My grandad has gotten a new heart 20 years ago and he has these 25 pills he has to take every day, takes them everywhere, too, if he forgets one day, it could be a fatal mistake. |

Ian Butler - From what i understand at Team Type 1 they have an injection before the race and throughout it they top up with energy gels, but if there blood sugars go to high they have another injection which is administered by the race doctor |

Indeed
I just think it's great to have someone doing this story, especially someone with the same condition, it gives it a lot of depth, and it gives people the chance to learn |
